This serves at least a couple good purposes today. First, as I said above, it's to celebrate the release of former President George W. Bush's new book. Second, it's to remind us of both the indictments and tragedies of that administration but also the humor that could be derived from him and his gang. Finally, it's to remember that Mr. Colbert excoriated both Mr. Bush and his administration as well as the press for decidedly not doing their job in the lead-up to this same president's invasion of and attack on Iraq, as well as on a list of other subjects they should have covered.
Terrific satire. This will be the "gold standard" by which all other following White House Correspondent's Dinner speeches will be measured both for its humor and for calling out the "King" for having no clothes on.
Too bad the great laughs are based on so much ugly, painful truths.
