Two things that need to not come out of this election

It was predicted that Republicans would take back the House in Washington and they did.

It was a bit sketchy but it was predicted, pretty much, that that same party would likely not take over the Senate and they did come close but that came true, too.

It seemed as though the Republicans were going to have a pretty good return in yesterday's elections and they did.

Okay.

So we're done with that.

With all this, I wrote earlier about what needs to come out of this election.  Now, I'd like to point out two things that patently need to not come out of this election, from Washington and our government, from the Republicans or anyone else, in the next two years.

The first thing is that no one should waste their time trying to undo the health care reform that just passed.  This is for a couple of reasons:

1)  We needed this reform.  To repeat, we have, undeniably, the most expensive health care system in the world and we are ranked 37th--behind Costa Rica--in mortality rates.  Americans are more likely to die earlier than Costa Ricans and 35 other countries.  That's pathetic.  That's pitiful.  That's crazy.  Oh, and guess what kind of health care system Costa Rica has.  Yeah.  They have universal health care;

2)  Trying to undo the health care reform we just got--weak as it is--is an insult to us "average janes and joes" out here on the street.  What little reform we got, we need.  To undo it would be to give yet one more gift to the health care industry including the insurance agencies, pharmaceuticals, etc., but take away from us.  And it ain't pretty out here.

3)  Trying to undo the health reform we just got would also be a colossal waste of very precious time because the Democrats in both houses of Congress can and could block it and even if it did go forward, President Obama will veto it.  It's pointless.  Trying to "make points" with the American people by trying to go forward with, again, undoing health care reform is irresponsible, at least.  We have far too many real and substantial problems that need to be dealth with than to waste time and energy on it.  Besides, it's now "Election Season 2012" from now until November of that year so too many people will be trying to position themselves and grandstand for this or that office they're running for.  No, make no mistake, this would be tremendous folly.

That's all reason enough not to try to undo recently-passed health care reform.

The second thing that shouldn't happen in the next two years, before the 2012 elections is that the Republicans had better not try to create panels and commissions to try to find some "imaginary dirt" or transgression on or by this president.  They tried it the last time, we all know, and they spent at least 44 million dollars with their ugly, stupid charade of trying to prosecute Bill Clinton and all he got was his hands slapped.

No, again, we have far too many problems in front of us even right now, let alone coming at us from the future to spend combing through this presidency, to see if there's something they can "get him" on.

We have work to do, folks, as a country.  Let's go forward and do it.  Let's identify our problems, do the same with solutions, roll up our sleeves and set about making this a better place, a better country.
