Quote of the Day -- On Republicans and What's Wrong With America

From Missouri's own St. Louis Post-Dispatchin a letter to the editor:

“As Thomas E. Mann and Norman Ornstein in their terrific book It's Even Worse Than It Looks have said:

‘Let’s just say it. The Republicans Are the Problem. The Republican Party has become an insurgent outlier-ideologically extreme; contemptuous of the inherited social and economic policy regime; scornful of compromise; unpersuaded by conventional understanding of facts, evidence and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition.'"

The Incredible, Soon-To-Be Presidency of Hillary Rodham Clinton

...And why it's great for America.
In all of the coverage of this God-awful 2016 presidential race for the White House, what hasn't been said and what isn't being said--yet, anyway--is how the Hilary Clinton presidency will, yes, of course, be historic for the nation and unprecedented, but the ways in which it will be unprecedented.

First, of course, we'll have our first female president.

That, alone, is historic and nearly mind-blowing. For all our work and attempts to be modern and forward and open-minded, not only have we never had a woman president but, worse, there are still far too many people in the nation--both male and female--who think we should never have one. The fact that we will is fantastic.

Second, the fact that we'll have two presidents in the White House at the same time is incredible.

I can't think of any other nation that has had such a situation at any time during their history. It happens, of course, naturally, in monarchies that lead their nations but not in Democratically-elected heads of state. It's, again, unprecedented.

And the thing is, not only is it history-making but the nation gets one helluva bargain at the same time.

Like it or not, agree or not, Bill Clinton, as president, was a very successful one in his time in office. Having all that experience and knowledge and his international and political contacts is a huge boon to her presidency and to the nation and our need to work with other nations.

In that way, you could also say, then, with all that experience and information and knowledge, America is getting one incredible political and governmental bargain. We're getting a "two-fer", America, a two-for-one bargain.

Following on the heels of a successful, very successful presidency of one Barack Hussein Obama and the not-to-be-overlooked fact of his being the first Black president, this is, indeed, again, monumental and historic. It's a great day for America.

Look, don't get me wrong, too. It's not like the election is over, far from it. Things could happen. But I'm basing the reason for this post today on the fact that not only does Mrs. Clinton have a lot of support behind her but she also has a great many Republicans on her side because they are strongly and wisely against having their candidate, Donald J. Trump in the White House. It's just fact.

So, congratulations, America. Not only will you be making history for more equality of the sexes but you'll also be getting one heckuva bargain, financially, diplomatically and politically, all three, at least, with Mrs. and Mr. Clinton back in the White House.

George Will: Republicans Must Keep Trump Out Of The White House

Donald Trump faces uphill climb to the White House

It seems Donald Trump's candidacy is actually even likely making the Republican Party weaker.

And check this out. An entire nation doesn't want The Donald anywhere near their country should he, God forbid, become president.

Again, Missourians, Your Government Is Being Bought

Yes sir, Missourians, your government is being bought and it's by the already-wealthy and corporations who have the money to do it. First, the very famous and disgusting St. Louis billionaire Rex Singquefield, trying to buy the governor and Lieutenant Governor of his choice and now this:

And check this out, too. It's happened twice this year, so far. First there was this article back at the end of July.

Eric Greitens Nabs Single Largest Campaign

Contribution in Missouri

The race to become Missouri's Republican candidate for governor is, to put it charitably, a shitshow of clashing egos and bulging bank accounts. On Monday, one of the candidates' campaign war chests got a little bulgier — by about $2 million dollars.

As the St. Louis Post-Dispatch notes, the $1.975 million donation to Eric Greitens' campaign this week marks the single largest political contribution in Missouri history to an individual candidate.

And now, yesterday, there's this. He's outdone himself. Mr. Greitens and his big money pals have outdone even that earlier, biggest contribution. Nearly the same headline, of course, just yet more money.

On most normal days (for Missouri, at least) a candidate receiving a $265,000 contribution as Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris Koster did today from the CHIPP Political Fund in St. Louis, would be on top of the world.

Unfortunately for Koster, that amount left him nearly $1 million behind his Republican opponent, former Navy SEAL Eric Greitens.

A 48-hour report filed today with the Missouri Ethics Commission shows Greitens received the largest campaign contribution in state history, $2.5 million from the Republican National Governors-Missouri, which received it earlier in the day from the Republican National Governors based in Washington, D.C.

I'm telling you, folks, we're being bought here. We're being bought. Our government is being bought and sold. And it's all by the wealthy, not just of the state, but of the nation. And Mr. Greitens has no government experience whatever, none, of any kind yet they're trying to buy him the highest government office in the state. All we know is he loves guns, hates everything Obama and wants "small government", whatever that means.

And we're letting it happen.

We have got to overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and fight to end campaign contributions. We have to get the money out of our elections and politics. It's the only way we'll get the government back for the people. For all the American people.

Entertainment Overnight

"Hey Mr. Tangerine Man"

Hey, Mr. Tangerine man, build a wall for me
I'm not that bright and don't know that you're not going to
Hey, Mr. Tangerine man, keep Muslims away from me
With my jingoistic world view, I'll come following you

Fake me out with this,
I'll be your newest apprentice
My sister thinks you're a trip
All my friends say "Get a grip"
And my skull's too numb to think
Waiting only for the bullshit you've been pedaling

I'm ready to think anything
Your orange face does not fade
My IQ's 88
Cast your protesters my way
I promise to go punching them

Hey, Mr. Tangerine man, build a wall for me
I'm not that bright and don't know that you're not going to
Hey, Mr. Tangerine man, keep Muslims away from me
With my jingoistic world view, I'll come following you

That was made for satire.

On Hillary, Us and Her Campaign

So much has been said and so much still should be said, of course, about any candidate for the presidency of the United States, but even more needs to be said about the first female to get this far in one of these races and here it is.

A bit from the article:

Let me be as candid and transparent as possible: I was a very strong supporter of Bernie Sanders, and until the past four weeks, held out great hope that he would become our next President. Over the course of the past month, I have had to do a great deal of reflecting and ask myself where does this seemingly irrational antipathy for Hillary Clinton come from? Why have I participated in it? After doing some research and looking hard at systemic misogyny, I have had to confront myself with the truth that I bought into a narrative about Hillary Clinton that has been produced, packaged, and perpetuated by mostly the GOP with the help of many democrats and independents.

This narrative is a 30-year-old vilification of a woman who is bright, independent, wealthy, and powerful — a woman who asks for what she wants and needs. How very dare you, Ms. Clinton? How dare you have a mind of your own? How dare you be bright and powerful? How dare you ask for what you want and need? Don’t you know these rights are still exclusively for white, Christian, cisgender, able-bodied, heterosexual men?

My research indicates that the reality — the facts (I realize facts are immaterial when talking to many Trump supporters) — are that Hillary Clinton is one of the most honest politicians tracked by the Pulitzer Prize winning fact-checking project Politifact. I would also call upon Jill Abramson’s piece in the Guardian. Most of you probably know Abramson from the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times. Abramson writes:

As an editor I’ve launched investigations into her business dealings, her fundraising, her foundation and her marriage. As a reporter my stories stretch back to Whitewater. I’m not a favorite in Hillaryland. That makes what I want to say next surprising. Hillary Clinton is fundamentally honest and trustworthy.

Members of the press, in their misguided attempt to be “balanced”, love to point out that we face a presidential contest between the two least-popular candidates ever. What they fail to do is analyze their own complicity in blindly adhering to the cartoon version of Hillary Clinton.

And it's so true. And it's so tiresome.

The Republicans and Right Wing have been investigating and attacking and publishing and printing and putting out material on first Bill Clinton, and now Hillary for years, undeniably. Virtually every bit has been fiction, at minimum, and frequently, far too frequently, out and out lies, fabrications and untruths. She and her husband have been investigated, honestly, more than any other two people in the entire nation and, very likely, the world.

Far too many have believed some or all of them, too, to all our loss.

This is, again, a hard-working, smart woman who wants good--maybe great?---things for her nation and for the people of this nation. She's been a Senator, she's been Secretary of State and in both she did good to great work. She's tested, God knows she's tested, and proven of worthy mettle.

So let's get over the misogyny. Let's get over the lies. Let's get over the untruths. Let's get over the fiction,  let's elect the first female president of these United States and let's get on with the work and progress or our nation.

Quote from FB friend Diana Pleasant-Hughes' page:

“Let’s remember, Jesus was a Jewish man of color, born homeless to an unwed teenager, who spent his formative years as an illegal immigrant before returning to his home country to hang out with twelve men, prostitutes, and socially untouchable tax collectors while he taught a radical social doctrine of equality, love, and forgiveness that included paying taxes, free healthcare, and the sharing of resources within a community.”

So Who Does the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police Endorse for Governor?

So who does Missouri's Fraternal Order of Police endorse for the state's next governor?

Eric Greitens, Republican, left, and Chris Koster, Democrat

Do they endorse the gun-totin', shoot 'em up, extreme Right Winger who hates President Obama and all he represents and who also, by the way, has no government experience?

Don'tcha' just love irony?

Harsh Truth Today on this Presidential Race

I saw this quote today, this morning, out on Facebook and had to spread it as far and wide as possible.

"Only white people have the privilege of thinking Clinton and Trump presidencies would be equally oppressive or unjust. Those of us who share characteristics with the ethnicities against whom Trump has fomented hate do not have the luxury of self-righteously dismissing Trump's overt mobilization of hate as just a superficial difference from Clinton.

Infantile leftists, however, continue to demonstrate their skin privilege every time they utter banalities about the evils of neoliberalism and elide those into the evil represented by white nationalism."

If There's Any Hope for Kansas, It Should Be This Year

I just saw this headline today on the Facebook page of the Kansas Democratic Party, highlighting an article from the Wichita Eagle newspaper.

And it hit me.

If Kansas can't or won't "go blue" and vote Democratic Party now, when very Right Wing, Republican, uber-conservative economy wrecker and trickle down economy promoting Governor Sam Brownback has wrecked both the state budgets AND the economy and then a deeply irresponsible Donald Trump is heading up the Republican Party ticket for the presidency, it will never happen. There will be no hope. Ever.

Between that political party's gerrymandering and "voter ID" laws and then the propensity for Kansans to vote for these people?

God help Kansas.

Imagine if any one of these things happened in our US history.

--If Jack Kennedy hadn't been assassinated

--If LBJ didn't lie us into Vietnam and that war

--If Bobby Kennedy hadn't been assassinated

--If Richard Nixon hadn't been elected to the presidency

--If George W. Bush weren't successful in stealing the 2000 election

--If George w. Bush didn't lie us into the Iraq War

The ramifications of each would be huge.

Now, imagine if all the above occurred.

The Tragedy and the Irony

The state of Kansas, it is thought, never inspected this amusement park ride. This, from the Kansas City Star, today.

In the meantime, the young boy tragically killed in the horrific incident was the son of a Republican, "small government" state representative who is likely against government oversight and regulation.

Let that sink in.

The Real Eric Greitens

It's clear Eric Greitens, Republican candidate for Missouri Governor this year, wants to tell one tale of  himself, that of Navy Seal, good or even  great American soldier, etc.  And that's fine. He can say anything and all he wants about himself, naturally.

But this is what his fellow Navy Seals have to say about him, in sharp contrast.

And for proof, for backup on this video, there is this, from earlier this year:

Navy SEALs claim credit for video

critical of Greitens

I hope plenty of people will see this video. At 2:49, these actual Navy Seals point out that, and I quote, "Despite the opportunity, Greitens has never served in a Seal Platoon."

I think it's important to know this all and to get it out there to as many Missourians as possible.
