The war enters its 10th year Thursday with key players hedging their bets, uncertain whether the Obama administration is prepared to stay for the long haul, move quickly to exit an increasingly unpopular conflict, or something in between.
From the article:
--Public support for the war is slipping in the United States and Western Europe. Already, the Netherlands has pulled out its troops, the first NATO country to do so. The Canadians leave next;
--Patience is running out here as well. Afghans are tired of the violence, increasingly resentful of foreign forces. Many wonder why their quality of life has not markedly improved when their nation has been awash in billions of dollars of foreign aid;
My own points:
--Afghan President Hamid Karzai is kind of on with us but kind of off with us, the US AND he's likely taking millions or billions of dollars from us, along with his family and friends;
--The American people don't want our soldiers there, that's for sure. We don't want them there in harms way AND we don't want more money and materiel from us, expended and distributed there;
--The war is not going particularly well, that's for sure. We keep racking up casualties but aren't making marked progress.
There's more reasons, lots more.
It just does seem time to wrap things up and bring our soldiers home.
