It has been my contention for years--and it keeps re-proving itself--that White people, since they've not been discriminated against in this country nearly to the extent of Blacks, just don't "get it". They think the life they lead is the same life Black people lead and that their Americas are the same. Additionally, Whites think that we've fixed everything in this country for African Americans and that we are "post-racial" and that there is no further discrimination, with all its negative effects, any longer.
I find that a great deal of White people think this, too, and they're nowhere near 90 years old, to be sure.
Finally, too many White people think that the 300 years of first slavery and then discrimination in all its manifestations, has no effect on where Blacks are now, socially, politically and/or financially.
It is frustrating, at least. It can really be maddening.
And this from a White guy.
