More than half the members of the Texas House have signed on as co-authors of a measure directing universities to allow concealed handguns. The Senate passed a similar bill in 2009 and is expected to do so again. Republican Gov. Rick Perry, who sometimes packs a pistol when he jogs, has said he's in favor of the idea.
Right, because you need a gun when you jog. I get that. (dripping sarcasm)
We need guns at colleges and universities like we need 'em in our national parks--that is, not at all.
As I've said many times before, here and otherwise, "more guns" is not an answer to problems. Not a good answer, anyway, and not a smart one.
And as said over at Americablog: "What do you mean I didn't get an 'A'?"

Hello Kevin,
I think you’re one of the many people I’ve talked to who are just as confused as I am about why Texas lawmakers are allowing or even considering why college students and faculty members should conceal and carry firearms. It just seems very outrageous to even think about the possibility of students walking to campus or classes with a handgun. I keep hearing more and more stories about this issue, and the best ones I’ve heard have been about how students feel about this. Check out this story: http://bit.ly/ewwnwv.
I remember a few years ago when some other states were considering whether to enact something similar to this bill or not, I was stunned. Even though it never followed through, I was startled that it would...but apparently it is going through in Texas! I hope to hear what you have to say about the link I shared with you (in the different sides to the story), and I hope you’re enjoying a little better weather in Kansas City! The weather has been nasty for weeks, until last week, then it turned gorgeous! That was definitely a Spring Tease.
Take care,
Daniel
