New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals??

I'd never heard of or seen the Bleacher Report or their website but I sure did today.  They have a story up on it today on the "Top 100 Sports Rivalries."

As soon as I'd seen it, I went looking for our Kansas City Chiefs.  I figured we'd be on there with against our Chiefs vs. Oakland Raiders, right?

Well, the Royals are on there--and we're pretty high, too, at the number 40 rank, too, but I thought it would be the Chiefs against the Raiders.

It's against--you guessed it--the New York Yankees.

Go figure.

Here's the listing:

No. 40: New York Yankees Vs. Kansas City Royals

Span: 1976-80
Greatest Showdown: 1976 ALCS
The Yankees returned to glory in the mid-to-late 1970's largely at the expense of the Kansas City Royals.
A solo home run by Chris Chambliss in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 6 of the 1976 ALCS sent the Yankees back to the World Series for the first time in over a decade. The Yankees took the next two pennants as well, defeating the Royals in the 1977 and 1978 ALCS.
Kansas City fans finally saw their club get over the hump two years later. Thanks to two home runs from AL MVP George Brett, the Royals swept the Yankees in the 1980 ALCS to reach their first ever World Series.
Of course, when you look at that date up there, above, you see it's through 1980 so you see it's over.
But I still figured it'd be the Chiefs/Raiders.
If you look at that list, you might note that the same Yankees have a total of four different postings on the list, too.  I thought that was pretty interesting.  Not surprising but interesting.
Have a great weekend, y'all.

Huh? Do you mean the Kansas City Chiefs and the Raiders have a rivalry? The Royals are baseball…the Raiders are football…
