Quote of the Day -- Presidential Edition

Post image

"Trump is the most psychiatrically disordered president in history."

From an article today at The New York Daily News from 2 psychologists.

Thanks, Republicans. Y'all must be so proud. And happy. You love power over all else, as we know.

Psychologists on this President

I saw a terrific article today at Daily Kos, this one, below, that references one in the New York Daily News. While I'm not crazy about the original source, the fact is, two psychologists came to a conclusion that's difficult, if not impossible, to disagree with.

Post image

Here's the original article:

A bit from the original article:

“Get rid of the ballots” and “there won’t be a transfer,” said Donald Trump on Wednesday. This comment is a direct and dangerous expression of his anti-democratic intention. If unstopped, Trump may well destroy our 244-year-old democracy.

It is time to stop pulling punches. It is time to stop relying on political pundits to weigh in on Trump’s behavior, which they often soften and even normalize.

We are psychologists, and we are convinced Donald Trump is a psychopath. His malignant behavior over the past four years is growing and escalating right before our eyes. Trump’s psychopathy will change us forever if he is not stopped.

This is not hyperbole. This is not an expression of "a left-wing agenda.” This is a mental health opinion based on thousands of hours of documented behavior by this president.
  • He breaks norms, rules, and laws with impunity.
  • He lies, on average, 15 times a day.
  • He peddles fake conspiracy theories and irrational magical thinking.
  • He has been accused of sexually predatory behavior by at least 25 women.
  • He blames, scapegoats and gaslights as easily as he breathes.
  • He undermines the vital role of the free press because he abhors oversight and accountability.
  • His lies and anti-scientific advice and intentional downplaying of the coronavirus pandemic has led to countless American deaths.
  • He is callous and cold and unfeeling because he has no conscience.
  • He denigrates and humiliates anyone and everyone in his path.
  • He has no respect for military heroes or renowned experts.
  • He is racist and xenophobic.
  • He incites violence and culture wars.
  • He is obsessed with power and adoration.
  • He is a greedy opportunist.
  • He is corrupt to the core.
It goes on. I can't recommend the full, original article enough.

I will repost here only one last line from it.

"Trump is the most psychiatrically disordered president in history."

I say again...

Thanks, Republicans.

Quotes of the Day -- Clueless, Shameful, Shameless Presidential Edition

Post image

From the article:

The Rev. James Martin, a prominent Jesuit priest and author, said in a statement,

"Using the Bible as a prop while talking about sending in the military, bragging about how your country is the greatest in the world, and publicly mocking people on a daily basis, is pretty much the opposite of all Jesus stood for."

He added:

"Let me be clear. This is revolting. The Bible is not a prop. A church is not a photo op. Religion is not a political tool. And God is not a plaything."

Rabbi Jack Moline, president of Interfaith Alliance, said in a statement Monday,

"Seeing President Trump stand in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church while holding a Bible in response to calls for racial justice — right after using military force to clear peaceful protesters out of the area — is one of the most flagrant misuses of religion I have ever seen. This only underscores the president's complete lack of compassion for Black Americans and the lethal consequences of racism."
Shameless.

The man is shameless.

Thanks, Republicans.

Jack Cashill Comes Out Against Mass Transit?? Say It Isn't So!

BREAKING NEWS TODAY!! (last week?)

None other than very Right Wing, conservative JACK CASHILL has come out SQUARELY AGAINST MASS TRANSIT here in the Kansas City area!

Shocking!

Imagine that!!

A middle-aged (senior?), very white, middle- to upper-class, again, Right Wing, conservative--Republican? Libertarian?---coming out against MASS TRANSIT!!

Naturally, I first read of this shocking, shocking development over at some local blog.

KANSAS CITY URBAN PLANNER FACT CHECK: CONSERVATIVE JACK CASHILL EXAMINES DENSITY & PUBLIC TRANSIT ROLE IN DEADLY CORONAVIRUS!!!

Thank goodness I checked that out! (Thanks for the heads up, Ton...)

You just can't get any more controversial or daring than that!

Be able to take light rail from, say, the airport to downtown? Or out in the city??

Have the city bisected by light rail with East/West and North/South routes??

This daring Right Winger is having nothing of it!

And Mr. Cashill so rightly makes a DIRECT CONNECTION between this MASS TRANSIT NONSENSE and the current CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC!!

We knew there was one, right??

So what if light rail is successful in St. Louis and Denver and, oh, I don't know, Chicago and New York and EVERY OTHER CITY it's in ACROSS THE ENTIRE WORLD!!

Next thing you know, people will want to---oh, I don't know--SAVE MONEY and SAVE TIME and have it be CONVENIENT and POLLUTE LESS??

I say again---GET AROUND THE ENTIRE METROPOLITAN AREA EASIER AND FASTER AND MORE CONVENIENT AND LESS EXPENSIVE AND POLLUTE LESS??

We'll have none of that!

We'll be gripping our steering wheels UNTIL WE DIE, right Jack??!!

Thank God someone, someone is taking on these tough, tough, controversial issues in this day and age and area!

God bless you, Jack Cashill!

Keep up that great, ground-breaking, courageous work, sir!!  We're right with you!!

Back here in the 1890s.

Missouri Republicans: It's Class Warfare, All Right

There is a terrific article out just now at Daily Kos on our own state of Missouri and the Republicans' fight for "Right to Work" laws.

Not only are their efforts unfair to the point of obscene, working to cut the wages of working Missourians, but if they get this, it will hurt Black Missourians and their paychecks even harder.

What “right-to-work” in Missouri means for black workers

A little from the article:

The passage of a so-called “right-to-work” (RTW) law in Missouri would hurt black workers the most, according to two new fact sheets by EPI’s Valerie Wilson and Julia Wolfe. As Wilson explains, “Contrary to how the phrase sounds, these [RTW] laws actually restrict the rights of workers by cutting the financial support going to unions, thus limiting the ability of unions to help workers bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions.” The authors find that black Missourians would be disproportionately harmed by RTW, as they are more likely to be covered by a union contract than other workers. The authors also find that wages of black workers in Missouri and other non-RTW states tend to be higher than wages of black workers in RTW states.
As Warren Buffett so famously and rightly said, "There's class warfare, all right, but it's my class, the rich class, that's making war, and we're winning."

Thanks, as ever, Republicans!

All you are is consistent.

Wouldn't it be great if, one day, and one day soon, very soon, the articles on Missouri and Kansas could and would be positive and for the people instead of what we've been getting for the last at least 10 years or so?

Wouldn't that be nice?

Hope for the Left, In Spite of Yesterday's Loss

What Political Party Am I Quiz?

Okay, sure, Jon Ossoff lost yesterday against Republican Karen Handel in Georgia's 6th District.

You wouldn't think anyone in this nation could say, publicly, in the middle of a political campaign, as Ms. Handel did, that she's against a living wage and still win an election but here we are.

That said, even with knowledge of yet one more loss today, last evening, there are two things to keep in mind. First, there is this from the  New York Times a few days ago (link below).

If Mr. Ossoff wins the election, Republicans can argue — with some credibility — that Georgia’s Sixth was a particularly ripe opportunity for Democrats at a time when Mr. Trump’s ratings among college-educated voters have sunk into the low 30s.

But even if he loses, Mr. Ossoff’s strong performance has already demonstrated that Republicans in well-educated but traditionally conservative areas now shoulder the burden of Mr. Trump’s weak performance. It suggests that previously safe Republican incumbents in Orange County, Calif., or the suburbs of Dallas and Houston could face serious challenges next November. And most important, a close race in Georgia’s Sixth suggests that control of the House is in play, regardless of which candidate comes out on top.

Second, next, there is this today, from Professor Robert Reich's Facebook page.

As the national political and media world focused heavily on the Georgia race, an underfunded, overlooked Democrat, Archie Parnell, also a first-time candidate, almost pulled off a huge upset in the South Carolina seat vacated by Mick Mulvaney, Trump’s budget director. Parnell lost by about 2,800 votes, a little more than 3 percentage points, after party leaders decided to devote all their attention in the run-up to Tuesday’s elections to the Ossoff-Handel race.

Bottom line: Democrats are doing extraordinarily well in traditionally red districts -- and have an excellent chance of taking back the House next year.

So take heart all you Liberals (libruls), Lefties, Democrats, Progressives and Socialists out there. There is cause and room and reason for hope.

We just have to get out there and work our tails off.

And VOTE, of course.

Sh*t Republicans Say

Forgive the suggestion of the expletive in the title today. It's taken from a theme, a meme, if you will,  people have been using for the last year or two at least.

But I saw yet another nearly unbelievable thing a, you guessed it, Republican said and it inspired the post. Here it is.

Trump White House Says Diabetics Don't Deserve Health Care

Really. They did.

They said because of the way some diabetics get the disease---I guess with poor eating habits?---they didn't deserve health care.

It comes on the heals of this one. The person who said it is running for office in Georgia for a seat in the House of Representatives.

And then there was this recent beauty.

To make it worse, the above, that sick people don't deserve health care, was said by Alabama Representative Mo Brooks as well as President Trump's Budget Director Mick Mulvaney so we got a national "two-fer" on that one. They doubled-down.

Then, we all remember our infamous, wonderful Republican Representative Todd Akin and his quote about women and rape.

How these people are even elected to their government offices but then, how they keep them, is beyond me.

Facebook Wouldn't Let Me Post a Link to This Article Last Evening

I was reading and also on Facebonkers last evening when I ran across this article.

I wanted to post it on a page, a group I belong to. This one:

Facebook said it "didn't recognize the url." I tried to post it, also, from the source, The Daily Kos, but that wouldn't work, either.

I've never felt I was being censored out there until this.

Big, corporate brother?

Welcome to the "It's All About Me" Presidency

Our new President (it still stuns me to say that), Mr. Trump is still, still, to this day, pushing the outrageous and proven untrue idea that millions of illegal immigrants voted against him, else he'd have won the popular vote.

We're only less than one week into this Administration and already he's inflicting turmoil in Washington, across the nation and world, in fact, with his paranoia and insecurities.

Undaunted Trump seeks probe of

debunked voter fraud claim

Here's the ugly, even scary truth of the matter:

Trump’s disregard for the truth threatens his ability to govern

Apparently, this helped get him riled.

White House sources say Trump was ‘visibly enraged’ at the size of the Women’s March

It must come from his TV viewing.

White House Sources Say Trump Was 'Visibly Enraged' at the Size of the Women's March: Report

He wouldn't take intelligence briefings, prior to becoming President but he would, apparently, watch lots of television.

Terrific.

Meanwhile, he's far too slick for our national news media and he's getting off easy.

In fact, this is starting to look Fascist, no exaggeration.

And look what he's doing to our own EPA.

And here's Mr. "Small Government", Conservative, "Get Government Out of Your Life" Republican President Trump:

What, exactly, does "send in the Feds" mean? Isn't that martial law? Really? That's what you want?

And due to Mr. Trump's bravado, China is now arching its back and bristling their fur.

It's going to be a long and, I fear, scary, turbulent four years, ladies and gentlemen and it's only just begun, we're only less than a week into it all.

As I keep saying, God help us.

As ever and always, Tom Tomorrow has it right.

Coming Republican Implosion? Sooner Than We Thought?

(I love the looks on these two faces just that moment)

Here's some rather fascinating news on what those pesky Republicans, flush from their wins last November, are doing this week in Washington. And I don't know that I'd trust it but it comes from the very business-friendly, Conservative and even Republican Forbes Magazine.

OMGHouse Republicans Are Preparing To Hit Consumers With A Horrible New Tax That Will Harm Trump And Hurt The Economy

What they're doing:

... it’s the Republicans, not the Democrats, who are ready to administer an unnecessary black eye to the new President. That’s not their intention, but it manifestly will be the result.

The vehicle for this unwitting GOP punch is a new exaction called the border adjustability tax. This levy will cost American consumers at least a trillion dollars over the next ten years. Knowing how Washington politicians calculate these things, you can bet the amount will end up being considerably more. Prices for everyday items, such as socks, shoes and household appliances, will go up. So will tech devices like the iPad, not to mention automobiles and trucks. Gasoline? Millions of Americans will pay an additional 30 cents or more per gallon at the pump. Lower-income and struggling middle-class Americans will get hit the hardest.

Here’s how, in essence, this sneaky, anti-consumer tax works. Importers will no longer be allowed to deduct an item as a business expense. To simplify things, let's say a store imports a pair of sneakers for $40 and then sells them for $50, making a $10 profit on which it would owe taxes. Under the Republican plan, however, the retailer wouldn't be able to deduct the $40 it paid for the sneakers. In fact, it would owe taxes on the entire $50! And who, ultimately, pays this tax? You, the consumer, in the form of higher prices or fewer choices of where you can shop. Retailers and their customers will be hit.

Many oil refiners import crude oil to turn into gasoline. This new tax will sharply raise their costs, which will spell pain when you fill up your tank. Worse, some could be forced out of business or have to sharply curtail operations, as drivers cut back on buying the suddenly more expensive fuel.

But wait, it gets worse. Another feature of this bizarre GOP scheme gives exporters a gargantuan tax break by, in effect, not taxing their export revenues. Let's say a corporation sells a piece of machinery to Iran for $5 million, which cost only $4 million to produce. That means $1 million in taxable profit. Under the new Republican scheme, however, that $5 million received from the mullahs wouldn’t be taxable. Instead of a $1 million profit, the corporation, for tax purposes, would have a $4 million loss. Loophole doesn't begin to describe this "tax break."

Don'tcha' just love these fuzzy little pinheads? And according to the article, it sets a wonderful trap for the soon-to-be President Trump, too, God love 'em, by setting up an economy with rising costs. The Democrats could then remind the American people that those increased costs are due to the Republicans and these changes they want to create in our taxes.

God, I love these people. They're sewing seeds for their own destruction both quickly and in big, big ways. Here's yet more of this wonderfulness. The following quote is from uber Right Wing columnist Bill Kristol:

"It's telling, I'm afraid, that Donald Trump treats Vladimir Putin with more respect than he does John Lewis."

Which arose because of this, further proving his cluelessness and even lack of knowledge of our own, American history.

Then The Donald adds on to all this, because he's just not finished yet.

And check this out. This is how bad Donny's inauguration is going.

Don'tcha' just love the smell of Right Wing and Republican self-destruction in the morning?

And afternoon?

And evening?

Sure, Donald J. Trump, arguably the least qualified person to ever be elected to the highest office in our nation and the most powerful position on the planet is about to be inaugurated this week but think happy, hopeful thoughts, campers.

Springfield's News-Leader Gets Senator Blunt Just Right

Springfield Missouri's local newspaper, the News-Leader, printed an editorial opinion piece on Senator Roy Blunt and boy, did they get him just right.

Blunt cares about Blunt, Inc.

– not Missouri

The article, in its brief but important entirety:

Roy Blunt was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 and to the U.S. Senate in 2010. He rose swiftly through the ranks in both chambers, attaining the positions of majority leader in the House and chairman of the Rules Committee in the Senate. In these positions, he has been useful to the lobbying activities of his family. In his third term in the House, Blunt is married to a D.C. lobbyist. His wife, Abigail, and his son, former Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, are active lobbyists in Washington. His other son (and campaign manager), Andrew, is an active lobbyist in Jefferson City. It would not be inappropriate to assign the following title to Roy’s family: Blunt, Inc. A Governmental and Lobbying Corporation.

When professors of political science teach a course on pressure groups, they describe the most powerful lobbying operation as one that includes one member sitting in either the House or the Senate. The Blunt family fiercely denies any connection between their lobbying work with one another. They would like you to believe that family talk is about sports, television, movies, travel and so on, but each one keeps secret from the others their own lobbying activities and never, under any circumstances, exchange any information that would be useful to the work of other family members.

An article on the front page of the June 18 News-Leader is an account of the strenuous (or one might say frenzied) fundraising activities of Sen. Blunt in defending his seat against Democratic challenger Jason Kander, Missouri’s current secretary of state. In the article, it mentioned his fundraising schedule in Washington last week that included a Tuesday evening fundraiser by the Beer Institute, a Wednesday morning fundraising breakfast for Missouri Republicans and two Thursday evening events hosted by major governmental contractors General Dynamics and Siemens. So, in the space of 48 hours he was raising money for the Missouri GOP, from which his campaign will benefit and from three organizations that have business before Congress.

It is fair to say that Blunt’s life is based in Washington. This statement is reinforced by the fact that the Blunts’ Springfield home is a condo which he uses on his occasional visits (usually at holidays) or when in town for Greene County Republican Party events. The condo also serves as his official Missouri residence.

Blunt’s contact with the general public is limited to his occasional “tours” of the state, which is rather remarkable for a person who represents the state. In these tours, he is very unlikely to meet any Missourians except those who are active members of the Republican Party. When he has meetings in Springfield they are usually closed to the general public, which makes him unavailable to those who might hold different opinions.

His connection to Missouri is very slim and tenuous. The real focus of his life is to serve as the congressional base for Blunt, Inc.

And yes, it was from last July but it's important to keep in mind, right up to and including November 8, election day.

Another great thing about the article, besides that they got him so dead on and that they printed and distributed it, is that it also got picked up by USA Today so it went national. Another important thing to keep in mind is that it is from his home area and that home is decidedly Right Wing, Conservative and Republican. If ever there were a time and a person for getting the old, tired politician, in it for himself, it would be this Missouri Senator, Roy Blunt. And that time is now. If ever there were a person who fit the definition of a "career politician", it's Senator Blunt.

The conclusion, folks?

Blunt Takes a Beating

Senator Roy Blunt takes a pretty good beating of late, with this ad from the End Citizens United organization.

It doesn't stop there. The articles in media about it tell yet more. The following are from the 2010 election.

It's Time to Kick Ass. "Roy Blunt,

the Very Worst of Washington"

This ad was made about Senator Blunt 5 years ago. It was true then and it's still true today.

And this one from 7 years ago.

And it's not just Senator Blunt. His entire family realized money was the "gravy train" and they wanted on.

Senator Blunt's been at this for some time.

And it's paid well.

Very, very well.

Roy Blunt: The Insider's Insider (reprise)

Senator Roy Blunt, a Republican from Missouri, listens to testimony from Penny Pritzker during her confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee in Washington, D.C., U.S., on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Pritzker probabl

If Roy Blunt, Senator Roy Blunt, is anything, he is the ultimate insider. He is so deeply a Washington insider, it permeates him, his job, his work, his paycheck, heck, even his family.

Virtually the entire Blunt family is deeply entrenched in politics.  And living off of it.

His wife is a government lobbyist, for God's sake.

His brother, Matt, screwed up Missouri and the governorship there, for a while. Fortunately, we got him out and he's stayed out of office since.

As further proof, just look at some of these headlines. They come from a range of dates as Senator Blunt and his family have been sucking at the teat of government, both state and Federal, for some time.

Missouri's Blunt embraces

his role as insider

At one point, American Veterans went after him for lying about draft deferments, to keep him more accountable. And hopefully, honest.

Even his own son is knee-deep in government:

Fortunately, there's this, more recently:

And this year he's all for America's Veterans. But last year? When he wasn't in a contest to hold his own Senate seat off in Washington. He was one of these guys, back in November, 2015:

41 Senators Block Benefits for Veterans

And again, once more, February 2014.

Fortunately, there's this truthful little gem from 2 days ago, from the Senator's own home area of Springfield:

This is a beauty of an article:

Roy Blunt was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996 and to the U.S. Senate in 2010. He rose swiftly through the ranks in both chambers, attaining the positions of majority leader in the House and chairman of the Rules Committee in the Senate. His connection to Missouri is very slim and tenuous. The real focus of his life is to serve as the congressional base for Blunt, Inc.

Fortunately, there's the ray of hope that is Jason Kander, what he stands for and even his fund-raising of late:

So heads up, fellow Missourians. There's a Senatorial seat up for grabs this Fall. This November, let's throw the government fatcat out of his seat and get someone in there who is for us, the people, and not just for his own seat in Congress and all he can wring out of it.

On this Fourth of July, let's pledge and plan to declare our independence yet again.

Our independence, this time, from Roy Blunt.
