I miss Communism

I miss Communism.

I kind of miss the "Cold War."

Back when there was the big, bad, ugly Russian Communists, we knew who our enemies were and it was "them." Now, we don't know who our enemies are as well so we attack one another. We attack fellow Americans.

It was far less Republicans vs Democrats and "Left" vs "Right."

We've stopped talking to one another, we've stopped discussing our problems and possible solutions, instead attacking one another.

Now we attack opposing political stances, gays, blacks, Hispanics, Mexicans, Muslims, you name it. All fellow Americans but we attack 'em.

It's crazy.

This is no way to run a nation.

I miss it when we were all Americans, when we were all on the same side.

maybe communism was your one big scary official enemy but there was so much other covert and overt stuff going on in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Middle East, it was more comfortable to concentrate on one thing. Inside the country it wasn't that idyllic either. It just that people didn't have a forum to express their opinions and comment on events, so it looked a lot more civil. I am usually skeptical about imaginary "simpler times" back in the day.

That's one of my points--that as Americans, it was more comfortable to concentrate on one thing, Communism, as our enemy, in this case.

And in the case of the Soviet Union, believe me, the emphasis here on how idyllic it wasn't.

I was being simplistic and yes, even silly, just to make a point about us now, that's all.
