Kansas Lowers Concealed Carry Age to 18??

Couldn't believe what I read. And it took place at the beginning of the month. I don't know how I missed it. Yes, the Kansas statehouse overrode Governor Kelly's veto and lowered the concealed carry age to 18 years. Insane.
And they're not--repeat NOT--putting any exceptions on college campuses or universities. That's going to be a really good mixture right there, isn't it? No permit required and it can't be open carry--big deal--and the students don't have to be registered with the school. Brilliant. Let's have the administration fly blind as to who may or may not have a weapon. Can you imagine if you had a student who clearly didn't seem to care for you and who also might not have a good, stable emotional base but you don't and can't know if maybe he's carrying a weapon? That's brilliant right there. If they do conceal carry on campus, they do have to be 21 but other than that, Katy bar the door. And if they don't have to register anyway, who's to say an 18 to 20 year old isn't going to carry? Legislators? Republicans? Do you ever really think these things out?
They're fighting citizens being able to vote over there, they're that unpopular, but hey, more guns! is always an answer, right? Not be outdone, Missouri Senate approves a bill seeking to nullify federal gun laws. It's that terrific? God help us all. We have GOT to vote out Republicans, state to state, all across the nation. Let's do this.

Kansans! Last Week in Topeka!

Once again, Davis Hammet of Loud Light does an excellent job of summarizing last week in the Topeka, Kansas Statehouse. It happened to be the last week of the session this year. You can follow him on YouTube and Facebook at Loud Light. If possible and you can support him, you might make a one time contribution to his work and efforts and reporting or, even better, a recurring, monthly contribution.

Kansans! This Week In Topeka!

If you haven't already seen this, Kansans, you need to. Once again, Davis Hammet's Loud Light summary of the week's events in the statehouse. It's difficult to believe what the Republicans in Topeka push and try to push.

The Kansas Senate Majority Leader Is Going Down

There is new information out today, this morning about Kansas Republican Party Senate Majority Leader Gene "Great Judgment" Suellentrop.
Two things, actually. First, it's found his blood alcohol level while he was driving that day---or trying to drive, anyway, however wrongly---was twice, literally twice the legal limit. Insane. Then, second, it's reported that he, Mr. Suellentrop, called the arresting officer "doughnut boy." How's that for some serious respect for our law enforcement out there keeping us all safe? It's not enough he was driving drunk, not enough he drove the wrong way on the hhighway, not enough he drove like that, the wrong way for 10 minutes, possibly, if not likely threatening other people's lives who were driving correctly, the right way on the highway. Not enough he evaded the police, no. He had to try to insult the officer while doing his job, too. Oh, yeah. Wait for it. Count on it. Gene Suellentrop is going down. He'll be out of that position shortly now. Aren't Republicans wonderful?

Kansans! Your State Legislature Last Week!

Once again, Davis Hammet of Loud Light gives a fantastic and even important, if also brief summary of what your legislators did in Topeka last week. God help us all.

Republicans Threatening Our Democracy, State by State

Americans the nation over need to understand just what Republicans are doing or are trying to do, state by state, statehouse to statehouse, including Missouri and Kansas. Stop vote suppression, folks. We're under attack here and it's coming from fellow citizens, from Republicans and their Republican Party. They're attacking our votes, our elections, the election process and Democracy itself, all for their own political party. Their ideas and goals and candidates are so patently, reliably bad they have to do this, disenfranchise fellow Ameericans in order to get and stay in office. It is an assault on Democracy and certainly un-American. Contact your representatives and tell them this will not, this cannot stand. Stop vote suppression. Also, pass the For the People Act. It truly is for the people.

Kansas Republicans---This Is Your Leader?

Yes, a question for all Kansas Republicans. Are you aware that your State Majority Leader, Gene Suellentrop, was arrested last week for --drunk driving --driving the wrong way on the highway for TEN MINUTES --speeding, going 90 MILES AN HOUR --dodging police roadblocks --also dodging tire deflation devices the police had put out for him --causing a vehicle accident --also causing property damage and finally --fleeing the police?
Did you know all that? And this is your LEADER?? Really?? Because it really seems like he has great judgment. Right?
Gene Suellentrop---and Republicans, really. Making Wichita and Kansas so very proud.

Kansans! Here's What Your State Legislators Did This Week!

Once again, Davis Hammet at his organization Loud Light is doing a fantastic job of reporting on just what Kansas State Legislators are doing and did this past week in the Topeka statehouse. The fact is, the facts are, it's abominable, Kansans! Check this out. I can't recommend enough following Lous Light on YouTube, Facebook and/or Twitter. No one, no other source is reporting just what Kansas legislators do during their sessions than Mr. Hammet. As for Republicans? #VoteThemOut

Kansas Republicans Now Trying to Kill Democracy, Too

I just learned there is a new bill just presented in Kansas, in Topeka SB307...
"..that would disenfranchise tens of thousands of Kansas voters (it would have thrown out 32,367 votes in 2020). --Davis Hammet, Loud Light

The Kansas Legislature is Broken

What you don't and won't hear from more mainstream media in the area like the Kansas City Star, KCUR, KCPT or certainly not from the local TV news stations. This is from Davis Hammet @Davis_Hammet of the organization Loud Light today including the headline above:
--Legislators are hiding who actually wrote bills. --Public hearings are being scheduled with less than 24 hrs notice or entirely skipped. --The day waiting period between debate and the final vote is constantly being suspended. #ksleg

Kansans! Do You Know What Your (Republican) Representatives Did Last Week in Topeka?

Seriously, Kansans, do you know what your state government representatives did last week in Topeka? Especially the Republican Party Represntatives? Davis Hammet, once again, gives an exellent, factual recap of just what went on over there.
I personally cannot recommend enough that Kansns at least follow Mr. Hammet and his organization, Loud Light, if not also support him and the group (please). He's doing great work and giving great information on Kansas Statehouse business that literally no other source is, Kansas City Star and all local TV news stations combined and included. If you could and would support him, howver large or small, it would be money extremely well spent, I assure you.He gives these excellent, concise summaries weekly, as this suggests. For me, it's a "don't miss" video each week---and I don't eeen live in the state. Now if Steve Kraske at KCUR would have him on his program and Nick Haines at KCPT on his. If only.

Republicans in Topeka Continue to Weaken Kansas

From Davis Hammet at Loud Light. Listen and weep, Kansans.
Kansas Senator Mark Steffen is a real piece of work, this brief video makes clear. He and his efforts are nothing if not tunning. I say again, no other source in the area, no other news source, covers the statehouse in Topeka more or better than Mr. Hammet. No one.If you don't watch and keep up with him already and you live in Kansas, you would do well to do so. Just saying.

What's the Matter With Kansas?? Again

Since when do state government agencies not follow the direction of the sitting governor?

Since Kansas.  Since now.

And all she did, all Kansas Governor Kelly did was say schools should be backed up a few weeks, to September, to after Labor Day, to open. That was it.

Thanks, Republicans!

Meanwhile, this.

Kansas labeled a coronavirus ‘red zone’ as cases spike, White House document says

Tell us, Republicans, is that Kansas Board of Education or Bored of Education?

And what part of killing international pandemic do you all not get?

The state's business is more important than your children?

Really?

What Isn't to Hate About Kansas Republicans is to Love

Did you see this yesterday or today?

Kansas Congressman Steve Watkins charged with three felonies in illegal voting case

Watkins used a Topeka UPS store as a voter registration address

As I said in the title, yet more Republican Party hypocrisy.

If it isn't a male Republican bashing gays and legislating against them, or trying to, then being caught with a male in a sex romp, it's Republicans, like this one, that rails, along with his political party, about possible voter fraud and, voila'! Look what happens. He lists his residence as a commercial space AND GETS CAUGHT IN VOTER FRAUD.  And not one but 3 felonies, mind you.

Aren't Republicans wonderful?

I don't know for what.  Except maybe irony? Hypocrisy? Laughs when you aren't crying?

Speaking of Republicans from Kansas, we can't forget old Kris "I'm Not a Racist" Kobach

And then there's this.

And this from 2018.

Here's a brief summary of old Kris' issues.

Then, not done there, there's this Marshall guy, also from Kansas. Here's one for starters.

It gets worse from there.

Marshall Slammed for Using Political and Business Connections to Erase Conviction, Still Facing Calls to Release Sealed Affidavit

Last night’s Kansas GOP Senate debate saw “sparks fly”as the underwhelming field of Republican candidates continued to attack each other in the “divisive and crowded” primary that has plagued Washington Republicans and left them “spooked this year.” Following a bombshell report that revealed how Congressman Roger Marshall used his political and business relationships to erase a reckless driving conviction and replace it with a minor traffic violation, Marshall faced an onslaught of brutal scrutiny from the other candidates for that scandal.

The nasty debate underscored how much of a “headache” Kansas has become for Republicans.

And what's amazing is that in all these cases, these men are all, all still in contention for their races. They haven't a) disqualified themselves or b) been thrown out, by the political party or by laws or anything.  They're still running.. That is quite the group of candidates they have running this year, I tell you what.

If you don't laugh with these guys, you cry. This political cartoon still fits them.

Thanks, Republicans!

Kansas Makes Clear What Our Problem Is

There's an excellent, even important article on the Topeka Captiol-Journal website presently that points out the biggest problem in our states but in Washington, DC, too.

Image result for kansas capitol building

Here's the situation taken from a Facebook friend's, Davis Hammet of Loud Light, page today.

After becoming Chair of the Kansas Senate Commerce Committee, Sen. Julia Lynn got a job working at Allied Global Services (AGS). Sen. Lynn endorsed and confirmed Brownback’s Commerce Secretary Soave who later was found to be steering government contracts to his friends. AGS got over $13 million in government contracts the last few years. As that scandal came to light, Sen. Lynn used her Chair position to block an investigation into those deals. When questioned about all this she said that she’s exempt from conflicts of interest... This story just made her resign from the corporate job, but she hasn't resigned from the Senate.

Money.

Money is our problem here in Kansas. And Missouri. And all across every state in the nation and, as I said above, especially in Washington, DC.

It's money that has made our health care system tied to profit instead of being universally available as all other Western, industrialized nations have.

It's money that got us the outrageously priced higher education system we have now that also shuts people of modest or little means from being able to participate.

It's money that has our legislators writing that legislation and our laws for the already-wealthy and corporations, not for the people and nation.

For Kansas and across each state, here is what we need to do to fix this, taken from the same Facebook thread:

Lauren Smith-Sessions    It's time to address paying a livable wage to legislators so that we can elect good people that care about Kansas more than personal gain.

It's just not that complicated.

Pay our representatives at the state level enough to be there and do the work. Then, along with it, make any funds taken from any other person or company illegal.

Then, in Washington, in our Federal Government, we need to, first, overturn Citizens United. Then we need to end campaign contributions entirely. We have to think the unthinkable.

Other nations have done and do this. The UK is an excellent example. By making campaign contributions not just possible but legal, we have effectively legalized bribery. It's insane. It's not true, representational government. It's not "for the people."

Ironic, isn't it? We, the US, the "world's wealthiest nation", being crushed by money.

Kansans! You Need to Watch This Video!

Yes sir, all voting age Kansans should watch this brief but informative video just put out by young Davis Hammet of the Loud Light organization.

I've posted here before who Mr. Hammet is and what good work he does. He came to Kansas from Florida, of all places, and has been doing fantastic work educating now fellow Kansans on their state government. This is just one more of his excellent videos.

Once you've watched it, you'll know more about your government, what it's doing and which way you maybe want to vote this Fall.
