2012: CBS' and "60 Minutes" changing of the guard

I'd have to say that this year, 2012, is likely to be remembered as the year the "weekly news magazine", as it's so long and popularly been known, changed its guard.
First it was Andy Rooney who retired and then shortly thereafter passed. Now, this week, famed and highly-regarded reporter Mike Wallace died at age 93. Sure, he'd been gone a while but what was the show without Mike Wallace?
More than anything, this tribute is, besides pointing out this "changing of the guard", a notice to watch the "60 Minutes" broadcast this Sunday evening as it's going to be on and about Mr. Wallace and his career and contributions to the show and CBS. It should be an excellent one. Whatever happens, I think it's important at this time, though, too, when we're marking a "passing of the guard", so to speak, of this news program, to not forget another big and important name, face and presence on the show who passed not that long ago. And that person is Ed Bradley.
I thought him and his work excellent and not to be lost in all this marking of time. Having passed somewhat surprisingly--to me, at least--in 2006, I think it would be tragic to not remember him and his contributions to the show, his work and presence. So by all means, if you can and if you're interested, tune in Sunday evening to the show, to "60 Minutes" for what surely will be an informational presentation of what Mike Wallace and their staff gave us at their best in the past. Here's hoping the future writers and reporters will tell us not what we want to hear but what we need. Our DVR is set to record every episode of "60 Minutes" and "CBS Sunday Morning". We don't watch every single episode of "60 Minutes", but they are all recorded so we can see if there is a topic that interests us.

I'm the same way about "60 Minutes" and the DVR. Usually I'll watch it unless it's a rerun.
