A new study found that a person's self-reported happiness matches up with objective measures of state-level happiness.
The results are based on an examination of two data sets, one that included personal reports of happiness for 1.3 million Americans and the other that included objective measures, such as how crowded that state is, air quality, home prices and other factors known to impact quality of life.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kansas City and Missouri but could we maybe work on this?
I also have to say, I think that getting the Performing Arts Center downtown will help our area a great deal and, secondly--and not connected at all to the first thought--I get some solace in knowing New York state is 51--worst in the country, by this comparison, while sunny Southern California is--believe it?--46th?, oceans, mountains and all? Yikes.
Have a great weekend, y'all.

How did Kansas beat Missouri?
really. great question. what is that about?
They won because they have more jobs lately or what? It certainly isn't their arts or their big lake in the middle of the state or... wow.
I know. Kansans have lower expectations since there's nothing there so naturally they're happier.
If that's not it, I don't know what it is.
So how is this relevant? The conservative individual who enjoys the relatively liberty minded culture of say, a Montana is somehow happier than the liberal minded person living in New York. Or the person who enjoys surfing would do well in Southern California or Hawaii, but another person who enjoys skiing would do better in the inter mountain west. It's silly and doesn't mean anything. Attributing human characteristics to a concept like a state is junk science.

I agree. How do you poll a complete state, let alone a nation of 51 states, and come up with some conclusion about these people or that group being more or less happy? Seems ridiculous, at minimum.
