Good News, Bad News Breaking Today

Yes, as usual, there is both good and bad news breaking today, this morning. Fortunately, I think most of it is good. Well, if you ignore Texas presently. Besides the fact that temperatures are warming across the region and nation, there is also this.

Oh, happy day. At last. Pass the popcorn. This should be good. Not done there on his taxes, this just broke in the last hour, too.

The Supreme Court has declined former President Trump's request to delay the enforcement of a subpoena from the Manhattan district attorney for his financial records — paving the way for a New York grand jury to obtain the records and review them.

The point being, the Supreme Court already responded to Trump's request for a delay this morning. Fantastic. Onward, Yahoo.

Yet more goodness andyes, it's on the Trumpster, too.

Ex-Gotti Jr. prosecutor hired to help Manhattan DA probe Trump

It seems New York City isn't messing around at all. They hired a tough attorney who has, in the past, gone after the mob and people in it.  Huzzah. You go, NYC.

Next up is this.

Hey, actions--and words--have consequences, Mr. Lindell. Buck up.

And now for the bad news.

It seems Republican Representative Steve Scalise was on ABC's "This Week" news program yesterday and just would not admit to George Stephanopolous on air that Joe Biden won our Presidential election and that Trump lost.

Maddening.  Dangerous, even.

At least it's more good news than bad. That and the temperatures are warming, as I said, as we all know all so well. Yeehaw. Yay, us.

Have a great week, y'all.

Additional links:  Unfortunately, there is the Right Wing, Republican Party, Libertarian hellscape and nightmare that is the state of Texas presently.

I read where some citizens there had gotten bills as high as $17,000. And that's on top of possibly having lost power, of course, and then any and all other expenses you might have incurred. And all that is providing none of your family members died in the biting freeze, too.

Fantastic, Breaking Insurrection Lawsuit News!

Yes! The little issue of the attack on our Capitol isn't done with yet, thankfully. This broke in the last hour.

Lawsuit accuses Donald Trump, Giuliani and others of conspiring to incite Capitol riot

The suit alleges that Trump and others violated the 1871 Ku Klux Klan Act.

A bit from the article:

Former President Trump, his attorney Rudy Giuliani, the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers conspired to violate the 1871 Ku Klux Klan Act, which prohibits any actions designed to prevent Congress from carrying out its duties, when they incited the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, a new lawsuit from the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee alleged.

The insurrection was the result of a carefully orchestrated plan by Trump, Giuliani and extremist groups like the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, all of whom shared a common goal of employing intimidation, harassment and threats to stop the certification of the Electoral College, said Rep. Bennie Thompson, a Democrat from Mississippi.

“The Defendants each intended to prevent, and ultimately delayed, members of Congress from discharging their duty commanded by the United States Constitution to approve the results of the Electoral College in order to elect the next President and Vice President of the United States,” the lawsuit said. “Pursuing a purpose shared by Defendants Trump and Giuliani as well as Defendant Proud Boys, Defendant Oath Keepers played a leadership role of the riotous crowd and provided military-style assistance sufficient to overcome any Capitol Police resistance.”

Here's where it gets really good, at least to me--

With the benefit of not having to prove criminal allegations beyond a reasonable doubt, the civil lawsuit, filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., on behalf of Thompson in his personal capacity by the NAACP and civil rights law firm Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll, sought unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. The lawsuit is suing Trump in his personal capacity, alleging that he acted outside the scope of his office when inciting the rioters.

So yes! Yet more great news today! The worst of the bitter cold winter is behind us and we're going to get this treasonous, traitorous excuse for a leader, excuse for a President yet!

So happy Fat Tuesday, everyone! Happy Mardi Gras! Definitely time and reasons to celebrate!

Yet more goodness today:

This Maddening, Possibly Frightening President Now

This so sorry excuse for a President and "leader" is still, still, to this day, pushing to ignore our election, deny that election, ignore our vote and votes and subvert our Democracy.

In Pennsylvania, Trump wants questioned ballots or the entire election thrown out. His claims of fraud remain baseless.

Even Fox's own deeply Right Wing loony Tucker Carlson says Trump and his legal team have no evidence of election fraud.

Tucker Carlson bashes Trump attorney Sidney Powell for lack of evidence in fraud claims: ‘She never sent us any’

Worse, once again it looks as though people in this administration are actually harming or trying to harm the nation, too, one way or another, no exaggeration.

Treasury Secretary Mnuchin cuts off several Federal Reserve emergency aid programs, sparking unusual rebuke from Fed

Check that out.  Rebuked by someone, another department, in their own same administration. It's insane. We've never experienced anything like this in our nation I don't believe.

Here's another example of what leadership looks like to this man, this President, this Donald J Trump.

Trump could be a no-show at virtual G-20 as coronavirus ravages the globe

The White House won’t say whether the president will participate in this year’s summit of world leaders

We know why Trump wants to hold onto his position what with tax and criminal investigations pending on, of and for him.

NY probes Trump consulting payments that reduced his taxes

Apparently Ivanka won't be unscathed by the examination, either.

Is it any wonder Trump expressed dislike for New York in the last month or two? They're examining his taxes--for fraud--on at least two different levels. I believe this is the third.

Fortunately, at least a few Republicans are speaking up about this President and his tactics.

Retiring GOP Sen. Alexander said Trump should provide the Biden team with all resources necessary for a smooth transition.

This next one is a very pleasant surprise.

I frankly thought Senator Ernst would lay low and keep quiet on this. I'm pleased to see she's doing the right thing here on this.

This naturally pleased me, too, of course, logical as it is.

Former AG Eric Holder weighed in, thank goodness.

And this is the status just now, fortunately. Not that reality means anything to this Orange Man or his supporters, sadly, tragically.

Unfortunately, this is where far too many people in this Republican Party stand.

This is where this President and his political party have brought us.

“To succeed, Biden will have to do more than secure Americans’ right to vote, ensure that workers’ wages rise, and return life to some semblance of pre-pandemic normality, although those are all necessary,” Adam Serwer writes. “He must show Americans that the government can serve the people, and not just the ambitions, avarice, and ego of its leader.”

National security is one of the major reasons smooth transitions are so crucial, says Barbara Perry, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia's Miller Center. Perry notes that the 9/11 Commission pointed to the shortened transition period between Bill Clinton's administration and the Bush administration after the disputed 2000 results in Florida as playing a role in al-Qaida's attack in 2001.

Besides not leading the nation during this killing pandemic, this just took place, too. This is from Axios.

The largest free trade area in the world came into existence over the weekend — and the U.S. was not even invited.

Why it matters: For the first time in living memory, the hegemon at the center of a major global free trade agreement is not the U.S.

China has stepped into Uncle Sam's shoes, and now anchors the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, or RCEP, an area covering 2.2 billion people and 1/3 of all the economic activity on the planet.

So here's the question. The New York Times poses it this week.

To which I answer, no, no we can't restore the rule of law without prosecuting Trump. Further, and just as importantly, at least, we need to make certain no one and nothing like Donald Trump happens again here, too. Donald Trump's crimes have been too numerous and they have been too grievous, too, both.

And again I say, because it's deserved, too, still, still we are leaderless in this the most killing, deadly international pandemic in the last more than 100 years.

Still, still no leadership from this man Trump, our supposed leader, our President on this pandemic, in any way.

The time has more than come, America.

We are, frankly, America, in one helluva mess, medically as well as politically and this President and his political party are standing squarely in they way of any solutions.

The Election, the Pandemic, This President & Where We Are Now

So Donald Trump still hasn't and still won't recognize our election and votes and that he lost. He still hasn't and won't concede to President-elect Biden. This all leaves us, as a nation, here:

Post image

The Rocky Transition Of Power Between Biden And Trump May Affect National Security

'It's Dangerous To Delay' Transition, Democratic White House Veteran Podesta Says

Even Republicans in Congress recognize what needs to be done here, now.

Trump certainly needs to face and accept reality.

Legal Avenues Closing As Trump Lawsuits Meet With Defeat Or Dead Ends

His own, our own agencies are saying, telling him there was no election theft.

Federal prosecutors assigned to monitor election malfeasance tell Barr they see no evidence of substantial irregularities

Then there's this.

Heads roll as Trump launches post-election purge

President Trump is stepping up his war on the federal government after losing the 2020 election, sending heads rolling across key agencies with a late push to get personnel and policies in place before he leaves the White House.

The president’s dismissal of Defense Secretary Mark Esper and other top Pentagon officials put Washington on notice and potentially paved the way for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the nation’s longest-running war in Afghanistan.

Rumors are swirling around whether CIA Director Gina Haspel might be next, as the president’s allies accuse her of obstructing efforts to declassify top secret materials they say would expose wrongdoing in the Russia investigation.

A shake-up is underway at the Department of Homeland Security’s cyber division, where top officials have disputed Trump’s baseless claims that Democrats fraudulently stole the election from him.

The president has installed loyalists at agencies responsible for overseeing the government’s environmental and energy regulations, and there is speculation that he could clean house at the FBI or Health and Human Services...

What on Earth is he doing? Does he even know? And why is he doing this? What are his goals? Does he have any? It's yet more of this unprecedented President and presidency.

Again, doesn't it seem as though Putin helped put him in this place, this position, to help tear us down, tear us apart?  Doesn't that seem plausible? Because nothing else makes sense.

And this. This is potentially frightening and may portend what we're left with when the Orange Man is gone.

Far-right groups plan DC rallies for Trump as tensions grow

A wide array of far-right groups and Trump supporters are planning to descend on the nation’s capital Saturday amid heightened tensions over the results of the presidential election.

The mix of demonstrators gathering in downtown Washington, D.C., where they’ll be met with counterprotesters, is sparking fears that the events could turn violent.

The main rally — known by various unofficial names such as the Million MAGA March, Stop the Steal DC and March for Trump — appears focused on showing an outpouring of support for President Trump as he refuses to concede the race to President-elect Joe Biden, citing unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud.

Organizers and right-wing media figures, along with the White House officials, have predicted a massive turnout, though similar events during Trump’s presidency have fizzled out.

Fox News host Sean Hannity, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Trump have all promoted the rally.

Fox supported it. Because of course.

With all this delay and stalling, thousands of Americans are dying each day from the pandemic---and the numbers are getting worse.

Fighting the Pandemic Can’t Wait for Inauguration Day

According to ABC News last evening,  we hit 193,000 new cases of COVID here in the US yesterday.  We'd been warned there could be as many as 100,000 per day some months ago. Now we're nearly double that, obviously. More frightening, it's estimated 2,000 Americans per day are going to start dying from this. And it's not even Winter yet.

Meanwhile, this President  is still going for self-supporting rallies.

Trump says he may ‘stop by’ MAGA rally in DC on Saturday

So irresponsible. As ever.

So we're in limbo. Nationally, we're in an in-between state that no President has ever put us before. And in the midst of the worst, most deadly, killing international pandemic in the last more than 100 years.

So we wait.

And we wait.

Waiting for Trump to concede the election.

Waiting for him to do something, anything, lead on this pandemic.

And more.

We wait.

Thanks, Mr. President.  Thanks, again.

And thanks, Republicans. Your boy just keeps getting worse and worse.

Do the right thing, Mr. President.  Concede. For the first time in your life, do the right thing. Do the responsible, adult, mature, intelligent thing.

Please.

Nearly Unbelievable Breaking News This Afternoon

Two big stories broke this afternoon I can hardly believe. First up from Louisville, Kentucky.

People gather in Louisville, Kentucky, on Wednesday to wait for the grand jury announcement in the Breonna Taylor case. The jury later decided that one officer would face charges related to shooting into neighboring apartments during the police raid of Taylor’s home. None of the officers face charges connected to Taylor’s death.

The city of Louisville, Kentucky to the family of slain citizen and EMT Breonna Taylor:

"Here, here's 12 million dollars for your very, very recently deceased sister, daughter, cousin but understand, our police officers did nothing wrong whatever."

Sure.

Makes perfect sense.

How can anyone possibly tell Black people in America their lives matter when a young woman, an EMT, can be safely at home, at night in her own home, her own apartment when police officers then execute a no-knock warrant--but for the wrong address--and shoot her 8 times only to kill her?

And then there's this.

The city of Louisville made sure they gave the family of Breonna Taylor TWELVE MILLION DOLLARS, very quickly, but then, now seem to be saying "Here's twelve million dollars, very quickly, right away, but don't think for a moment our police officers did anything wrong."

Sure.

Makes perfect sense.

And people think Black Lives Matter protests are unnecessary?

Really?

Let's truly make #BlackLivesMatter in America. This is insane.

Then, second, Missouri's Republican Governor Parson and his wife both came down positive for coronavirus.

Mr. You Don't Need to Wear a Mask.

Thanks, Republicans!

You bloody hypocrites. You fools.

Republican Party President Donald J Trump

Ladies and gentlemen, Americans, the President of the United States.

"There is no literature or poetry in this
White House. No music.
No Kennedy Center award celebrations.
There are no pets in this White House.
No loyal man’s best friend. No Socks the family cat.
No kids’ science fairs.
No times when this president takes off his
blue suit-red tie uniform and becomes human, except when he puts on his white shirt-khaki pants
uniform and hides from Americans to
play golf.
There are no images of the first family
enjoying themselves together in a moment
of relaxation.
No Obamas on the beach in Hawaii
moments, or Bushes fishing in Kennebunkport, no Reagans on horseback, no Kennedys playing touch football on the Cape.
I was thinking the other day of the summer
when George H couldn’t catch a fish
and all the grandkids made signs and
counted the fish-less days.
And somehow, even if you didn’t even like GHB, you got caught up in the joy of a family that loved each other and had fun.
Where did that country go? Where did all
of the fun and joy and expressions of love and happiness go? We used to be a country that did the ice bucket challenge and raised millions for charity.
We used to have a president that calmed and
soothed the nation instead dividing it.
And a First Lady that planted a garden
instead of ripping one out.
We are rudderless and joyless.
We have lost the cultural aspects of
society that make America great.
We have lost our mojo. Our fun, our happiness.
The cheering on of others.
The shared experiences of humanity that makes it all worth it.
The challenges AND the triumphs that we shared and celebrated.
The unique can-do spirit Americans
have always been known for.
We have lost so much
In so short a time."

To which I add,

Thanks, Republicans.

This President President Just Took Three Big Broadsides in 24 Hours

Yes, really, SO much going on and honestly, precious little of it good or positive for this President Trump.

Post image

First up, this was released yesterday.

Former DHS official blasts Trump, endorses Biden

Miles Taylor, who served as the Department of Homeland Security's chief of staff, in a video endorsement of Biden said that working under the current administration was "terrifying."

"What we saw week in and week out, for me, after two and a half years in that administration, was terrifying. We would go in to try to talk to him about a pressing national security issue — cyberattack, terrorism threat. He wasn't interested in those things. To him, they weren't priorities," Taylor says in the video, which was produced by the group Republican Voters Against Trump.

Taylor said that many of the things President Donald Trump wanted DHS to do were impossible and in some cases illegal. He characterized the president as vindictive and self-centered.

"Given what I have experienced in the administration, I have to support Joe Biden for president. And even though I am not a Democrat, even though I disagree on key issues, I'm confident that Joe Biden will protect the country, and I'm confident that he won't make the same mistakes as this president," Taylor, who was at DHS from 2017 to 2019, adds in the video.

That was brutal.

Then this came out this morning, in the last hour or two. And check the source.

The report highlights some never-before-seen evidence, including allegations about women and potentially compromising material tied to Trump trips to Russia

WASHINGTON — In a thousand-page bipartisan report released Tuesday, the Senate Intelligence Committee said the Trump administration obstructed its investigation with "novel claims" of executive privilege. It painted a portrait of a Trump campaign eager to accept help from a foreign power in 2016.

The Senate report, the most detailed account to date of the Trump campaign's embrace of Russian election interference, also asserted that the allegations that Ukraine interfered in the election — which President Donald Trump perpetuated — originated with Russian intelligence agencies.

The report highlighted some never-before-seen evidence about Trump and Russia, including three allegations of potentially compromising material relating to Trump's private trips to Russia that were unconnected to the dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele...

..."Russia and other countries took advantage of the Transition Team's inexperience, transparent opposition to Obama Administration policies, and Trump's desire to deepen ties with Russia, to pursue unofficial channels through which Russia could conduct diplomacy," the report said. "The lack of vetting of foreign interactions by Transition officials left the Transition open to influence and manipulation by foreign intelligence services, government leaders, and co-opted business executives."

It added, "Russian officials, intelligence services, and others acting on the Kremlin's behalf were capable of exploiting the Transition's shortcomings for Russia's advantage. Based on available information it is possible — and even likely — that they did so."

On Ukraine, the report said that Russian-government operatives from late 2016 until at least January 2020 consistently spread "overlapping false narratives which sought to discredit investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 elections and spread false information about the events of 2016."

I personally, strongly recommend reading that entire article.

Between even just these two events in the last 24 hours, this President took a couple of big, big hits, folks. And with these revelations on his campaign working with the Russians, etc., it's two big problems for him, among at least a few, if not several others, not least of which is the State of New York looking into prosecuting him.

Thirdly and finally, this was announced yesterday.

This President always was in over his head, so to speak. It's my contention he never knew what he was getting into because he clearly never knew our government and/or what's involved or what it takes.

As I keep saying, thanks, Republicans.  That's quite the guy you foisted on us all.

On Trump Trying to Dismantle the USPS--and Likely Our Democracy. And Nation

Image may contain: cloud, sky and outdoor

So here is what's going on with this many-layered situation. First this.

Followed, also, amazingly, by this.

An internal US Postal Service document obtained by NBC News reveals plans to remove 671 high-volume mail processing machines from postal facilities across the country. The document, circulated in June, is broken out by region and city/state.

Heck, our own Kansas City Star reported it did, in fact, happen here locally.

Can you imagine working for the Postal Service, walking in and seeing the mail sorting machine gone? Where does that happen? In what industry do they REMOVE automating equipment? Anywhere?

Then this came from the Orange Man's mouth himself.

Trump admitted that he is trying to stop mail-in votes from being counted with USPS sabotage during a Thursday Fox Business interview.

Once again, this President shows he wasn't/isn't smart enough, bright enough to even keep his mouth closed, keep quiet about his plans, nefarious and blatant as they are.

With all that, this is where we are now.

The House Oversight Committee is calling for Postmaster General Louis DeJoy to testify at an "urgent" congressional hearing later this month amid growing concerns about whether cost-cutting measures will leave the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) ill-equipped to handle a rise in mail-in voting.

It seems the Trump's Postmaster General may have some significant conflicts of interest.

USPS head Louis DeJoy reportedly owns millions of stock in mail processor

With this President trying to under-fund or de-fund the Postal Service and the House Democrats planning to have the Postmaster General this coming week, here are some things I'd like to ask the head of the Postal Service, that Postmaster General, just now:
  • Do you deny that 671 mail sorter machines--or some number--have been ordered out of our postal service facilities across the nation?
  • Why are they being taken out?
  • How does taking mail sorting machines out make any sense at any time but especially now when we need the postal service and all you do for this most killing pandemic in over 100 years?
  • Why are post office mailboxes being carted away?
  • How can anyone think this isn't to keep people from voting this Fall?
  • Can you testify now, under oath, that you own no other investments that have to do with mailing or shipping of any sort in our nation?
  • Can you testify here under oath that you would in no way benefit from having our United States Postal Service ceasing to exist?
  • Can you testify here, now, under oath that it is not now nor will be in the future your goal or the goal of your boss, this current President, to end the existence of the United States Postal Service?
I hope someone asks them.

This, however, is how and where it gets difficult.

No matter what Trump says, the USPS has the money and the capacity to handle a huge surge in mail-in ballots. But new restrictions could disrupt the election.

President Donald Trump and his allies might well succeed in undermining the United States Postal Service’s ability to handle an expected surge in mail-in ballots this fall. But the biggest immediate threat to voting by mail isn’t blocked funding.

Trump acknowledged yesterday that he opposes a major stimulus deal with Democrats in part because he wants to stop an infusion of $25 billion to the Postal Service ahead of the election. “They need that money in order for the Post Office to work, to take in these millions and millions of ballots,” Trump said in an interview with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo. But the president doesn’t want more voting by mail, and he doesn’t want the Postal Service to have any more money to help with it. “If we don’t make a deal, that means they don’t get the money. That means they can’t have universal mail-in voting. That means they can’t have it.”

Democrats see the president’s comments as slam-dunk evidence of what they have been charging for weeks: that Trump is sabotaging the November election by purposely degrading the ostensibly independent Postal Service. They have assailed the appointment as postmaster general of a Trump donor, Louis DeJoy, who has moved rapidly to reorganize the Postal Service’s leadership and institute cost-cutting measures that have already resulted in slower mail delivery. Those service changes, rather than the congressional fight over funding, are what alarm advocates for mail-in voting the most. At stake is nothing less than the integrity of the election itself, which to a large degree rests on whether tens of millions of ballots can get into mailboxes and then back to their precincts in time to count.

Keeping in mind this, overall, from our own Constitution.

8 U.S. Code § 1701.Obstruction of mails generally

Whoever knowingly and willfully obstructs or retards the passage of the mail, or any carrier or conveyance carrying the mail, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

(June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 778; Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, § 330016(1)(B), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2146.)

I would never have thought a President, even this one, would attack and try to dismantle, destroy our Postal Service.

Unreal where we are.

Then this President said this.

Have we become, are we already some Third World banana republic backwater?

Are we going to tolerate this?

I'm sure as Hell not if I can do anything about it.

First, we can't respond to a pandemic---but all other nations can---and now this?

Oh, Hell no.

Once again, one more time, thanks, Republicans.

We Must Make Black Lives Matter in America

Four examples. Following are just four very recent examples of what's gone on in America.  And for far, far too long.

--Tamir Rice was 12 years old. He had a toy gun. Within 3-1/2 seconds of the police officer arriving on scene, he had already shot and killed the boy.

--Breonna Taylor was at home. She was an EMT. It was around midnight. The police officers came crashing through her apartment door on a no knock warrant. They immediately shot and killed her. They had the wrong address.

To this day, from March to today, July 26, those officers haven't been arrested.  For anything.

Image: ANALYSIS: George Floyd was deliberately murdered, right on schedule to unleash race riots across America to cause even more chaos
--George Floyd was THOUGHT, only thought to have passed a counterfeit $20 bill. Eight minutes and 46 seconds after the officer began knee pressure on Mr. Floyd's neck/throat, he had killed him, Mr. Floyd. The officer, therefore, made himself judge, jury and executioner right there on the street.

--Auhmaud Arbery was jogging, out jogging, in his mother's neighborhood when two brothers, one an ex-police officer, thought he looked suspicious so they accosted him and within minutes shot him with a shotgun. Twice. Killing him.  Again, they made themselves judge, jury and executioner, no less, and in only a few minutes.

All 4 were Americans. American citizens.

Those are just 4 very recent situations, with their facts. 4, frankly, nearly insanely, of many here in the US both recent and going far back in our nation's history.

How could any of that be okay or right? How can any of that be okay here in our nation, in the United States of America?

We must make Black Lives Matter.

See for yourself:
