Explaining Fox, the Right Wing and Today's Republican Party

Carl Sagan said it so right and true, all those years ago. And now it's all made worse, much worse, with Donald Trump and his supporters.
Don't think it's true? Search the headline: Republican reps declare Jan.6 insurgency 'a normal tourist visit' from 'peaceful patriots'

Difficult to Believe What Comes Out of Republicans' Mouths

Herewith, a short, short list, very short, of some of the deeply ignorant, ugly, negative things that come out of too many Republicans minds and mouths. As always, click on picture for larger picture and easier viewing/reading
Let's vote them out, America. Let's vote them all out.

More Americans Need to See and Hear This

If you don't already follow Matthew Cooke on YouTube, I can't recommend it or him enough. Time and again, as here, he addresses national situations and issues extremely clearly and spot on, both with our problems as well as with solutions. Enjoy. I think this video and his logic and intelligence is especially poignant now, with CPAC meeting this weekend and none other than Donald Trump set to speak today. Let's get to this, America.

Great Time to Point Out What We Need To Do As a Nation

Three things, three big and important things, at minimum, we need to do to and with our government given the new administration that will be comind in. Next year couldn't be soon enough. First up--

We need to do this and badly. We need to first overturn Citizens United and then end the legalized bribery we call "campaign contributions." We could easily do this if we but have the will, too. We should do what the UK did long ago and make our elections only, say, a month or 3 months long. This would have many benefits besides killing the need for our government legislators to beg for and raise and have so much money for their political campaigns. It would also end the nearly constant campaign cycles we have now. Those two right there are huge benefits.

Next up--

We need to do this so, of course, no political party even can let alone does gerrymander any political district so they can win reelection in perpetuity. It needs to be illegal for both political parties, everywhere, period. This only make sense.

And yes, end voter ID laws since they only disenfranchise fellow taxpaying American citizens and are frequently racist, too.

Then, third--

Finally, we need to get the division and ugliness out of our media, out of what is still called "news" but which, because of ending the Fairness Doctrine, has become the likes of Fox "news" and Breitbart and so much Right Wing, even literally hate radio and media. It needs to be illegal, again, to not show at least 2 sides of any issue or story and not just one. Lying on the news should be illegal.

So there you are. With a new Presidential administration coming in soon, these are 3 things, at minimum we need and need so sorely. I doubt we do them but there is talk of changing things and now is the time. We are long, long overdue on these.

The Election, the Pandemic, This President & Where We Are Now

So Donald Trump still hasn't and still won't recognize our election and votes and that he lost. He still hasn't and won't concede to President-elect Biden. This all leaves us, as a nation, here:

Post image

The Rocky Transition Of Power Between Biden And Trump May Affect National Security

'It's Dangerous To Delay' Transition, Democratic White House Veteran Podesta Says

Even Republicans in Congress recognize what needs to be done here, now.

Trump certainly needs to face and accept reality.

Legal Avenues Closing As Trump Lawsuits Meet With Defeat Or Dead Ends

His own, our own agencies are saying, telling him there was no election theft.

Federal prosecutors assigned to monitor election malfeasance tell Barr they see no evidence of substantial irregularities

Then there's this.

Heads roll as Trump launches post-election purge

President Trump is stepping up his war on the federal government after losing the 2020 election, sending heads rolling across key agencies with a late push to get personnel and policies in place before he leaves the White House.

The president’s dismissal of Defense Secretary Mark Esper and other top Pentagon officials put Washington on notice and potentially paved the way for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the nation’s longest-running war in Afghanistan.

Rumors are swirling around whether CIA Director Gina Haspel might be next, as the president’s allies accuse her of obstructing efforts to declassify top secret materials they say would expose wrongdoing in the Russia investigation.

A shake-up is underway at the Department of Homeland Security’s cyber division, where top officials have disputed Trump’s baseless claims that Democrats fraudulently stole the election from him.

The president has installed loyalists at agencies responsible for overseeing the government’s environmental and energy regulations, and there is speculation that he could clean house at the FBI or Health and Human Services...

What on Earth is he doing? Does he even know? And why is he doing this? What are his goals? Does he have any? It's yet more of this unprecedented President and presidency.

Again, doesn't it seem as though Putin helped put him in this place, this position, to help tear us down, tear us apart?  Doesn't that seem plausible? Because nothing else makes sense.

And this. This is potentially frightening and may portend what we're left with when the Orange Man is gone.

Far-right groups plan DC rallies for Trump as tensions grow

A wide array of far-right groups and Trump supporters are planning to descend on the nation’s capital Saturday amid heightened tensions over the results of the presidential election.

The mix of demonstrators gathering in downtown Washington, D.C., where they’ll be met with counterprotesters, is sparking fears that the events could turn violent.

The main rally — known by various unofficial names such as the Million MAGA March, Stop the Steal DC and March for Trump — appears focused on showing an outpouring of support for President Trump as he refuses to concede the race to President-elect Joe Biden, citing unsubstantiated claims of widespread voter fraud.

Organizers and right-wing media figures, along with the White House officials, have predicted a massive turnout, though similar events during Trump’s presidency have fizzled out.

Fox News host Sean Hannity, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Trump have all promoted the rally.

Fox supported it. Because of course.

With all this delay and stalling, thousands of Americans are dying each day from the pandemic---and the numbers are getting worse.

Fighting the Pandemic Can’t Wait for Inauguration Day

According to ABC News last evening,  we hit 193,000 new cases of COVID here in the US yesterday.  We'd been warned there could be as many as 100,000 per day some months ago. Now we're nearly double that, obviously. More frightening, it's estimated 2,000 Americans per day are going to start dying from this. And it's not even Winter yet.

Meanwhile, this President  is still going for self-supporting rallies.

Trump says he may ‘stop by’ MAGA rally in DC on Saturday

So irresponsible. As ever.

So we're in limbo. Nationally, we're in an in-between state that no President has ever put us before. And in the midst of the worst, most deadly, killing international pandemic in the last more than 100 years.

So we wait.

And we wait.

Waiting for Trump to concede the election.

Waiting for him to do something, anything, lead on this pandemic.

And more.

We wait.

Thanks, Mr. President.  Thanks, again.

And thanks, Republicans. Your boy just keeps getting worse and worse.

Do the right thing, Mr. President.  Concede. For the first time in your life, do the right thing. Do the responsible, adult, mature, intelligent thing.

Please.

Let's Call It What It Is: A Constitutional Crisis

So we had an election. We voted. We all voted. We know.

And now, the man we voted out isn't recognizing and won't recognize our vote, that vote, that election, our election.

Post image

He's denying the vote, the votes, he's denying us all. He's denying our Democracy.

What is that if not a Constitutional crisis?

We've all seen the headlines.

Donald Trump in denial over election defeat

And unfortunately, too many in that, his political party are going along with this absurdity, this insult to us all.

McConnell declines in floor speech to congratulate Biden

And of course, Fox is aiding and abetting this obscenity, this ugliness, even this stupidity.

The network is broadcasting the Trump campaign’s debunked conspiracy theories and unproven allegations to millions each night.

As it goes on, Trump has done more and more bizarre things.

Unfortunately, very unfortunately, if not also predictably, our own Senator Blunt even joined in on Trump's absurd claims. Because, you know, you HAVE to put your political party before the country, before the nation and before the people and even before what's right.  Right??

Nine days after having our election and all of us voting, there are some good indications and movements on this insanity. There are some beacons of hope.

Rep. Will Hurd of Texas tweeted that Trump's comments are "not only dangerous & wrong, it undermines the very foundation this nation was built upon."

Fortunately for the state of Georgia and all of us, really, there is this guy and anyone and everyone like him, standing up and doing what's right.

This is only one city but it's an excellent example of just what this President and his supporters have to show for their denying our election, votes and the results.

And I love this next one.

Even Fox, EVEN FOX, folks! is doing the right thing on this, at least in this one instance, anyway.

Also from Fox, this broke yesterday, thankfully.

U.S. Sen. James Lankford said there was “nothing wrong” with the idea of Biden receiving intelligence briefings

And it's not just this one Senator, either, that's calling for Biden to get intelligence briefings though Senator Lankford did, later, back off this original stand I read.

"Nothing wrong" with Biden receiving intelligence briefings. Nothing wrong and everything right about it.

Then, not just from Fox but from TUCKER CARLSON HIMSELF, two days ago, folks.

"At this stage, the fraud that we can confirm does not seem to be enough to alter the election result. We should be honest and tell you that..." he said, on his Fox News show "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

That alone is pretty incredible. That was followed by this. Even Karl Rove can read this writing on the wall.

Ohio's Mike Dewine spoke up yesterday, thank goodness, as all Republicans should.

Today, this broke. It does look as though the tide is finally, finally turning on this President's denial of our election and votes, thank goodness. It shouldn't have been necessary.

It's as I said before here, it's obvious why Trump wants, no, needs to deny our votes and election, too. According to the New York Times, he owes nearly, if not completely 1 billion dollars to who knows who out there in the world, New York State, at least, is going after him for his taxes in two different cases and then there's this.

And the above doesn't even address any and all possible investigations of wrongdoing and/or illegality/illegalites he may have committed while President.

It's as I said in Donald Trump's first year in office, he's in WAY over his head. He had no idea what he was getting into but now he's there and he doesn't want to deal with any of it, let alone all.

Then the Washington Post poses this unsurprising possibility.

Then there's this ugly trend, overall, from and by his political party.

Here's yet more of the enabling cowards that is the Republican Party.

This is one of the things that is most concerning about this entire situation, too, with Trump challenging, denying our votes and election.

Meanwhile, we have still no leadership whatever, of course, from this excuse for a President out of his White House or administration since he's paying far more attention to covering his hide and tracks.

US Coronavirus cases hit daily high, more than 140,000

Look at this fact that just broke today.

The most single-day COVID-19 deaths since May AND IT'S NOT EVEN WINTER YET.

So with all this, then, where are we? Where does this leave us? Besides the fact that this orange excuse for a President is shaping us into his own banana republic, where does this leave us now? And then, what do we do?

And here is where I say we have to stand up and speak up and speak out, all we can, especially to our Republican Party officeholders and tell them what we need, what we want. We need to tell them what, exactly, needs to happen next and that is, that this President and all in his political party must, at long last, recognize our vote, our votes, our election, our Democracy and demand he, Donald Trump, concede this election. We must demand it.

So with that, I post here, below, a link to go to so you can email and phone, both, preferably, your, our government representatives, to tell them this must happen and it needs to take place sooner, rather than later.  Today is not too soon.  Indeed, it is late in this process. It is very late.  Please contact your representatives. Maybe especially Missouri's own Senators Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley. Thank you in advance.

Two more links.  Let's be clear.

Then, once Trump is gone, a way forward?? Dare I say? Or even think? Hope?

The True Monster

Yeah, there's a monster out there, all right.

And they unleashed it on us all.

Thanks, Republicans.

Fortunately for us, in a few days, we should be getting rid of this one.

All These Endorsements for Biden---and Against Trump

Check out this list of endorsements, incomplete as it is.

'Record-breaking group' of faith leaders endorses Biden

Not only do I love this next one, given from whom it comes but also the depth and breadth of the endorsements and then finally, also from where it's being reported. None other than Fox.

The list includes former US attorneys, former state attorneys general, former sheriffs and former police chiefs

And this one came out yesterday.

I'm telling you, folks, between all this which is, again, only a partial list, and what I'm seeing in the polls, I'm what you'd call at least hopeful if not out and out optimistic.  But we must certainly, absolutely take NOTHING FOR GRANTED. We must vote, folks. We have to vote. And VOTE BLUE!

Now Fearing For Our Nation

Seems this President  Trump was offered to have a virtual debate with Joe Biden and he turned it down. He won't appear. It seems clear and obvious he felt he couldn't shout down and interrupt so he wanted no part of it. Then this happened, too.

Post image

Trump Calls Sen. Kamala Harris a ‘Monster’ in Rage-Filled Fox Interview

He went berzerk, calling Kamala a "monster" and a "Communist." In his unexpected rant, he attacked Hillary, again, and Obama too. He announced he is refusing next week's debate. He blasted all the media, claiming all the polls are rigged.

Anyone who's paying attention politically now is or should be concerned from now to November 3, especially, and then from that time to January 20. It seems clear this President is already rather "melting down." I'm afraid it's only going to get worse and more so as we get closer to these dates.

He's losing it, folks. With it, he's also sealing his political defeat.

How bizarre that we are and must be concerned about our nation due to the man who is supposed to be leading us all.

This broke yesterday.

The New England Journal of Medicine finds the Trump administration's response to this pandemic "reckless" and "dangerously incompetent." And know this, keep in mind, this Journal has never taken a political stance before. Until now. Until this situation with this President and this pandemic.

Esquire Magazine said it right.

Last evening, in the Vice Presidential debate, this happened.

Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday night joined President Donald Trump in refusing to commit to ensuring a peaceful transfer of power, dodging a question about how he would handle a Joe Biden victory and parroting Trump's baseless narrative about widespread mail-in voting fraud.

This news broke this morning.

He's losing his mind. He's desperate. He doesn't know how our government works. He thinks this is all like the companies he owned and he can do anything with them and to us, to us all. Insane.

What isn't frightening about this is infuriating. This President and his Vice President seem to think we are their banana republic.

At What Point Do We Address Climate Change?

Look at just three things, only three, from the last one year.

--15 million acres of Australia burned last year, in 2019
--It got over 100 degrees in the Arctic this year
--More than 4 million acres of California burned and that's just so far this year

Are we going to do anything yet? At what point are we going to do things? At what point are we going to collectively change?

What Is It With Missouri's Senator Josh Hawley?

Missouri's very Republican Party Senator Josh Hawley was first going on and on for at least days, if not weeks, about the NBA and what some imaginary problem they were---even though there famously isn't any NBA team in Missouri, thank you very much.

Now, he's been obsessed with TikTok. His post today on Facebonkers:

Josh Hawley

This is the right move - ratchet up the pressure on Beijing, protect Americans.

It was his response to this article, from Fox, of course.

There is, presently, as all the rest of us know in America, the most killing, deadly international pandemic in the last more than 100 years but apparently our very Republican Party Missouri Senator Josh Hawley knows nothing whatever of it.

I mean, I know he wants to suck up to his political party's President but come on. Priorities, anyone? You want to maybe deal with the number one most important issue of the nation right now, one that's literally killing approximately 1,000 fellow Americans per day---or deal with a side issue about trade with China?

Could he not work for PPE and testing for we Americans for this pandemic?

Herewith, a couple things he might, just might work on instead.  If we're lucky.

Hypocrite, Thy Name Is Republican

Herewith, a list of several Republicans and their quotes on having a Supreme Court nominee named during an election year.

  • 2016, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas): “It has been 80 years since a Supreme Court vacancy was nominated and confirmed in an election year. There is a long tradition that you don’t do this in an election year.”
  • 2018, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.): “If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump’s term, and the primary process has started, we’ll wait to the next election.”
  • 2016, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.): “I don’t think we should be moving on a nominee in the last year of this president’s term - I would say that if it was a Republican president.”
  • 2016, Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.): “The very balance of our nation’s highest court is in serious jeopardy. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I will do everything in my power to encourage the president and Senate leadership not to start this process until we hear from the American people.”
  • 2016, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa): “A lifetime appointment that could dramatically impact individual freedoms and change the direction of the court for at least a generation is too important to get bogged down in politics. The American people shouldn’t be denied a voice.”
  • 2016, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.): “The campaign is already under way. It is essential to the institution of the Senate and to the very health of our republic to not launch our nation into a partisan, divisive confirmation battle during the very same time the American people are casting their ballots to elect our next president.”
  • 2016, Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.): “In this election year, the American people will have an opportunity to have their say in the future direction of our country. For this reason, I believe the vacancy left open by Justice Antonin Scalia should not be filled until there is a new president.”
  • 2016, Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.): “The Senate should not confirm a new Supreme Court justice until we have a new president.”
  • 2016, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.): “I think we’re too close to the election. The president who is elected in November should be the one who makes this decision.”
  • 2016, Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio): “I believe the best thing for the country is to trust the American people to weigh in on who should make a lifetime appointment that could reshape the Supreme Court for generations. This wouldn’t be unusual. It is common practice for the Senate to stop acting on lifetime appointments during the last year of a presidential term, and it’s been nearly 80 years since any president was permitted to immediately fill a vacancy that arose in a presidential election year.”
  • 2016, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wisc.): “I strongly agree that the American people should decide the future direction of the Supreme Court by their votes for president and the majority party in the U.S. Senate.”
Stunning hypocrisy now, with so many of them pushing for an immediate replacement on the court for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg's seat.

Fortunately, the response from Democrats since Friday has been good to fantastic.

I heard on the Sunday morning news this morning that it's actually more like 91 million dollars raised. Good on us.

I love this, too, naturally.

And check this out. This is incredible, fantastic.

There is some good reason for hope.

May we, the people, win.

On to November.

Vote. Vote Blue.  #BlueWave2020
