Quote of the Day -- On Capitalism

We have to grasp, as Marx and Adam Smith did, that corporations are not concerned with the common good. They exploit, pollute, impoverish, repress, kill, and lie to make money. They throw poor people out of homes, let the uninsured die, wage useless wars for profit, poison and pollute the ecosystem, slash social assistance programs, gut public education, trash the global economy, plunder the U.S. Treasury and crush all popular movements that seek justice for working men and women. They worship money and power.

RBG--Thank You and Hoping You Are Already Resting in Peace

Thank you, Justice Ginsberg, for all.

Tzadik - Wikipedia

Tzadik (Hebrew: צַדִּיק‎ [tsaˈdik], "righteous [one]", also zadik, ṣaddîq or sadiq; pl. tzadikim [tsadiˈkim] צדיקים‎ ṣadiqim) is a title in Judaism given to people considered righteous, such as biblical figures and later spiritual masters. The root of the word ṣadiq, is -d-q (צדק‎ tsedek), which means "justice" or "righteousness". When applied to a righteous woman, the term is inflected as tzadeikes/tzaddeket.

Tzadik is also the root of the word tzedakah ('charity', literally 'righteousness').

On RBG, Her Passing and What Should Happen

4 years ago Sen. McConnell said “The American people are in the middle of choosing who the next president is going to be. And that next president ought to have this appointment, which will affect the Supreme Court, for probably a quarter of a century.” He used this idea to block Pres. Obama’s March 2016 Supreme Court nominee.

Sen. McConnell chose this standard. He should live by it. If he does not, the already fragile institution that is the Supreme Court will suffer.

Justice Ginsburg told her granddaughter just days ago "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

Quote of the Day -- Possible Supreme Court Hypocrisy Edition

Senator McConnell must, must be held to his own standard. As of today, Saturday, September 19, it is 45 days from this next Presidential election. There should be NO NEW SUPREME COURT JUSTICE proposed this year by this President. It was good enough for Senator McConnell and the Republicans in 2016 with President Obama and Merrick Garland. The same should absolutely be held to today.

Fortunately, Senators Collins and Murkowski have both already publicly said they will and can in no way support a replacement for Justice Ginsberg before the election with this President.

A Very Busy Election Year Recommendation

It really is a nearly dizzyingly busy election year with all kinds of things---and lots of them--taking place nearly daily given the Republican Pary madman currently in the White House.

With that, herein is just that, a recommendation on how to keep up with what's happening and what's important.

I heartily recommend following Heather Cox Richardson  on Facebook, at least. She writes daily and does so both lucidly but also completely. Following is her contribution yesterday. It alone shows how complete she is in her detail. Again, I think it important for us all.

It feels like power is slipping away from Trump and his administration, and they are trying desperately to claw it back. Meanwhile, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his team are trying to criticize the president without getting sucked into his orbit, so they can focus on moving the country forward.

Today began with Trump’s former Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats warning in a New York Times op-ed that the 2020 election will determine “whether the American democratic experiment, one of the boldest political innovations in human history, will survive.” Our enemies, both “foreign and domestic,” are trying to destroy our faith in the upcoming election.

Calling for a bipartisan and nonpartisan commission to oversee the election, Coats said, “We must firmly, unambiguously reassure all Americans that their vote will be counted, that it will matter, that the people’s will expressed through their votes will not be questioned and will be respected and accepted.” He warned that if instead we accept “Total destruction and sowing salt in the earth of American democracy,” the only winners would be Vladimir Putin, [Chinese leader] Xi Jinping and [Iranian leader] Ali Khamenei.”

Coats did not mention Trump by name, but it was clear the president and his supporters were uppermost in Coats’s mind. Trump has repeatedly insisted that the mail-in voting means the election will be tainted, and that the only acceptable outcome is his own reelection. Today he tweeted: “Because of the new and unprecedented massive amount of unsolicited ballots which will be sent to “voters”, or wherever, this year, the Nov 3rd Election result may NEVER BE ACCURATELY DETERMINED, which is what some want. Another election disaster yesterday. Stop Ballot Madness!” This is entirely inaccurate, and Twitter flagged it.

Trump followed this tweet with one urging people to vote in person and another claiming: "There is a group of people (largely Radical Left Democrats) that want ELECTION MAYHEM. States must end this CRAZY mass sending of Ballots. Also, a GIFT to foreign interference into our election!!! Stop it now, before it is too late.”

(Trump seems eager not just to stop mail-in voting but also to get people to vote in person, even urging North Carolinians to vote in person a second time after filling out a mail-in ballot. It’s happened enough that I’m curious about why he seems to want people to cast their ballots in person, especially since voting machines in North Carolina notoriously malfunctioned in 2016.)

Midday, FBI Director Christopher Wray warned the House Homeland Security Committee that “the intelligence community consensus is that Russia continues to try to influence our elections” by spreading disinformation through social media, online journals, and so on. Russians are “very active” in their attempts to undermine Biden’s campaign. They are trying to “sow divisiveness and discord” and “primarily to denigrate Vice President Biden and what the Russians see as kind of an anti-Russian establishment.” Russians are spreading the idea that mail-in ballots are insecure, and that Biden is slipping mentally—both stories Trump echoes.

Trump took to Twitter to argue with his FBI director. “But Chris, you don’t see any activity from China, even though it is a FAR greater threat than Russia, Russia, Russia. They will both, plus others, be able to interfere in our 2020 Election with our totally vulnerable Unsolicited (Counterfeit?) Ballot Scam. Check it out!”

The president’s attempt to deflect attention from Russia while putting it on China is more disinformation. Department of Homeland Security whistleblower Brian Murphy last week said that DHS acting Director Chad Wolf told him “to cease providing intelligence assessments on the threat of Russian interference in the United States, and instead start reporting on interference activities by China and Iran. Mr. Wolf stated that these instructions specifically originated from White House National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien.”

Today the administration lost two more employees to the Republican Political Alliance for Integrity and Reform (REPAIR), launched a week ago by former DHS officials Miles Taylor and Elizabeth Neumann. The group is made up of current and former Trump officials who oppose his reelection. Josh Venable, the former chief of staff to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, and Olivia Troye, the former top homeland security aide to Vice President Mike Pence, who played a key role on his coronavirus task force, both joined REPAIR today. Troye says she supports Biden because she thinks the U.S. is in a constitutional crisis, and “at this point it’s country over party.” Troye recorded a scathing video about Trump for the coalition “Republican Voters Against Trump.”

Late this afternoon, a federal judge in Washington state temporarily blocked Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s changes in the United States Postal Service in response to complaints from 14 states. Judge Stanley Bastian agreed “The states have demonstrated that the defendants are involved in a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service. They have also demonstrated that this attack on the Postal Service is likely to irreparably harm the states’ ability to administer the 2020 general election.”

It’s not clear what the injunction will do, though, since most of the changes have already been made.
To reassure his base, Trump today announced he will create a national commission to promote "pro-American curriculum that celebrates the truth about our nation's great history." He claims that U.S. schools are indoctrinating children with a left-wing agenda that teaches them to hate America. This announcement was solely an attempt to rally his base; the federal government has no authority over school curriculum.

Tonight Biden participated in a CNN town hall in Pennsylvania with host Anderson Cooper, where he tried both to critique Trump’s administration and to demonstrate why he would be a good replacement for the president. The first difference between the two candidates was apparent immediately: while Trump sat during his town hall, Biden stood for the full hour and fifteen minutes. He was extremely well prepared for the live, unscripted comments from voters. Like the questions for Trump two days ago, the questions Biden fielded were pretty obvious ones.

He both answered the questions in detail and used them to criticize Trump. He took the president to task for his “close to criminal,” “totally irresponsible” response to the coronavirus and said that, if elected, he would increase testing and promote wearing masks. In response to Attorney General William Barr’s statement this week that lockdowns to combat the virus were the “greatest intrusion on civil liberties” in U.S. History “other than slavery,” Biden said, "What takes away your freedom is not being able to see your kid; not being able to go to a football game or a baseball game; not being able to see your mom or dad, sick in the hospital.”

Biden pointed out that he and President Obama had never had to send troops into a city, and that crime had declined on their watch while it is ticking up under Trump. He criticized Trump’s attack on the peaceful protesters in Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C., for a photo op, (although he incorrectly said Trump held the Bible upside down). He called for more accountability within police departments while defending “the vast majority” of law enforcement officers as “decent, honorable people,” who were eager to get rid of the “bad cops” in their midst. As president, he would bring law enforcement officers, unions, and communities of color to "sit at the table and agree on the fundamental things that need to be done” to move the country past the crisis it is in.

Crucially, Biden addressed the vast income inequality in America, casting himself as a voice for ordinary Americans. He reached back to his own youth as the son of a salesman in Scranton, Pennsylvania to contrast himself with Trump, who was born into great wealth. “I view this campaign as a campaign between Scranton and Park Avenue,” Biden said. “All Trump can see from Park Avenue is Wall Street. All he thinks about is the stock market.” He called for a raise for health care workers to more than $15 an hour.

When asked how he would make sure that future elections are not marred by this year’s great fight over mail-in ballots, Biden told voters, “Firstly, I would not try to throw into question the legitimacy of the election.”

Our Enemy Wanted--and Still Wants--Donald Trump President

 Let's face facts, folks, Americans.

There is solid proof both in 2016 and now, again, in 2020, this election year, that our known, sworn, very public enemy wanted none other than Donald J Trump President.

Post image

Here it is from 2016:

Russia wanted Trump to win in 2016

And now this year, even now.

FBI Director: Russians Interfering Again, This Time Against Biden

FBI's Christopher Wray makes it very clear that Russia is trying to help Trump win the general election, again.

Does that tell us nothing? Can we learn nothing from this?

Republicans, we know you want and need and like power--and money, for that matter--but does this tell you nothing?

Really?

Who the Hell Are We America?

Who the Hell are we, America? Who and what have we become?

We put immigrant children in cages at our Southern border and now we're forcing hysterectomies on immigrant women??

Really?? This is who we want to be??

And now we have a President that has been accused by more than 2 dozen women of sexually assaulting them?

Post image

Can you even imagine the outrageous uproar that would have uttered forth from the Right Wingers and Republicans and conservatives across the nation if the previous President, Obama, did anything remotely similar to this? Does the Emoluments Clause of our Constitution mean nothing now, with this Trump, this President?

Really?

Is this what and who we want to be?

America?? Americans??

More. Believably/unbelievably, still more:

The Unbelievable Things That Come Out of This President's Mind and Mouth

Honest to God, I can't believe what comes out of his mouth. Check this out.

US president made remarks while speaking at rally in Nevada

On Monday, following the release of the Fox News poll, Mr Trump compared Mr Biden’s mental fitness to both North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un and Russian president Vladimir Putin, according to journalist Julia Davis.

After the president made the remarks, Ms Davis tweeted: “Trump claims that Putin and Kim Jong-un are more mentally fit than Biden. Still fanboying for dictators,” and he responded: “I didn’t know there would be even a question about this!”

Then there's this next one from the past week. Check this one out, too.

How does this not make everyone shake their head?

Trump doesn't and won't put in a national mask order for this pandemic all this year but he, Trump---wait for it-- blames Biden for not calling for a nationwide mask order.

Seriously, we've fallen through the looking glass. We're in some bizarro other world where there is no logic. Trump World.

He has no idea the ramifications of what he says and does. None whatever. He also knows little to nothing of national or world history, either, folks.  Check this story out for proof.

Consequently, besides the fact that 200,000 Americans have died from this pandemic due at least in part, likely a large part, to this President's denial of it all, there's also this result.

Republicans?

No buyers remorse here?

None?

You'll do and put up with anything for power? You'll go and stay this low, all for power and money? Really? Sell your nation out, your fellow citizens all so you can be in control?

Wow.

I no way thought you were this bad, would go this obviously, blatantly low.

That's no way all. Yet more examples:

This is one of the reasons why the magazine Scientific Americans endorsed Biden for President.

Scientific American Endorses Joe Biden

"Scientific American has never endorsed a presidential candidate in its 175-year history. This year we are compelled to do so. We do not do this lightly.

The evidence and the science show that Donald Trump has badly damaged the U.S. and its people—because he rejects evidence and science. The most devastating example is his dishonest and inept response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which cost more than 190,000 Americans their lives by the middle of September. He has also attacked environmental protections, medical care, and the researchers and public science agencies that help this country prepare for its greatest challenges. That is why we urge you to vote for Joe Biden, who is offering fact-based plans to protect our health, our economy and the environment. These and other proposals he has put forth can set the country back on course for a safer, more prosperous and more equitable future."

So along with the fact that this is the first sitting President in the history of the nation to have members of HIS OWN POLITICAL PARTY not just oppose him but for four--count them, four--different groups of people from, again, his own political party, to form formal, funded organizations to see that he's defeated, now a group of American scientists come out for the first time in their organization's history, to defeat this same President.

With the fact that billionaire Michael Bloomberg is spending 100 million dollars, also, to defeat him, Trump, in Florida, things look good for the nation, for the people.

Vote.

Vote Blue.

Proud of the Chiefs Today, No Way the Fans

To those of you fans that booed during last night's Chiefs game:

You paid extra for a ticket to support a league that is 70% black. You paid extra for a ticket to support a league that has been vocal about their support of Black Lives Matter.

They took a moment to stand together in unity.

They were not rioting.

They were not looting.

They had a moment of silence in honor of those who have lost their lives unjustly, a moment of silence for an entire race that is treated as "less than" simply because of the color of their skin.

Today I am proud of the Chiefs, the Texans and the NFL.

Today I'm embarrassed to live in a city that boos peaceful and respectful acts to show support of a community that is hurting and that frankly needs and deserves our support.

Black. Lives. Matter.

Where We Are and Where We're Likely Headed with this Pandemic, According to Medical Specialists

Did you see this article on the pandemic in The Washington Post?

Contrary to Trump’s assurance, the U.S. isn’t ‘rounding the corner’ on the coronavirus

The one part that really got me:

"...a forecast that has come out from the IHME (Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation) at the University of Washington,”... 'They are forecasting by January the first of next year, that we’ll have 410,000 American deaths from coronavirus, which is 225,000 from where we are right now.'"

Stunning.

Staggering.

I remember from earlier this year a prediction that we might or would likely lose 200,000 Americans to this pandemic and I was surprised/shocked.

Buckle up, folks.

The ride isn't over. It's far from over.

God and Heavens help us all.

Crazy Things This President Says

This has been one incredible week for this---crazy things our President says. Stunning. Take a look at the list. Have you kept track this week? It's insane.

Post image

No. 1: On Monday, Trump claimed “shadow” people were controlling former Vice President Joe Biden.

What??

2. He said the city of Portland, Oregon had been burning for decades (untrue).

And this beauty, no. 3:  And he made unsubstantiated claims about airplanes “completely loaded with thugs” wearing dark uniforms and flying to disrupt the Republican National Convention.

Not done there, oh no, no. 4'

Then, naturally, he walked it all back.

Not done there, he added this to this week's list of insanities and inanities..

Forget that it's against state laws. Forget that voting twice is---wait for it--a felony, against federal law.

Then this.

"Trump said Democratic governors controlled football and traffic signals.

Still more:

"...Trump ― who The Washington Post estimated last month had played golf on at least 237 separate occasions as president ― said he didn’t have time for games..."

Finally, check this one out. I can't even.

Who does this?

Who but Donald J "Jenius" Trump says things like this?

And gets away with it?

How is this man still President?

Does it not seem as though he's lost his mind?

Honestly? Literally lost his mind?

Thanks, Republicans!

Better and Better for America--- Worse and Worse for the Trumpster

Yes, indeed, yet more great national presidential election news today.

Breaking today.

"Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden (D) was endorsed Thursday by a group representing almost 100 former Republican lawmakers and officials who have joined an effort to defeat President Trump in November.

The new group, Republicans & Independents for Biden, is led by former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) and said that its 'sole mission is to defeat Donald Trump and elect Joe Biden the next President of the United States.'"

This also broke this morning.

As did this.

And finally today, this.

Fantastic, folks. Yet more fantastic.

Lots of Excellent News Today on this Presidential Election

Yes, lots of great things today hitting this President. First up...

Post image

New poll shows Trump's tough path to reelection

One of the first major national polls released after the Republican National Convention shows former Vice President Joe Biden with an almost double-digit lead over President Trump.

The survey, conducted by veteran pollster Ann Selzer for Grinnell College, finds Biden leading 49 percent to 41 percent, on the strength of a huge advantage among female voters, suburbanites and Americans with a college degree...

This incredibly good news hit minutes ago.

And this big hunk of wonderfulness hit minutes ago this morning, too. The Trumpster is upset with and going after the Republicans' and Right Wing's own Drudge Report!

Next up...

Biden campaign, DNC raise record $364.5 million in August

Fantastic.  Loving it. Loving that, for sure.

And then there's this that hit 2 days ago.

That's huge. And very welcome, naturally. Shouldn't be terribly surprising since he not only didn't support the troops when it was found he, Trump, didn't and wouldn't try to punish Russia for putting a cash bounty on them in field in Afghanistan and still hasn't, to this day. Insane.

Then there's this wonderfulness.

Leading overall, yes, which is, again, fantastic and important but also leading in 9 battleground states. Yahoo, ladies and gentlemen.

Next up. Yet more goodness. Yes, it's bad news for America and I'd certainly rather not have that but the silver lining to this big, ugly, dark cloud is that most Presidents aren't reelected with bad economies.

Then it was announced Joe Biden also got this support.

Finally, today, this came out about 10 days ago, from the Republican held Senate.

Unfortunately, there is a high likelihood this will get lost in myriad news cycles but hey, it was out there and will remain.

So all in all, campers, great news for those of us interested in Democracy and what is good for the United States, for the nation and the people.  Let's do this.

Well, already wealthy and fixated on only taking care of yourself.

Law and Order President -- Right

Donald J "Jenius" Trump? Law and order Presidnent?

Piffle.

Post image

Trump isn't the 'law and order' president. He's the 'lawless and disorder' president

A bit from the article:

Our "law and order" president has consistently shown a disregard for the "law" portion of that idea throughout his time in office.

He has abused the pardon power to shrug his shoulders at corruption - perhaps because it's fundamental to his life's work. He has granted clemency to Jared Kushner pal Patrick Nolan, who pled guilty to racketeering; Conrad M. Black, a friend convicted of fraud; and former governor. and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Rod. Blagojevich, who infamously tried to sell a US Senate seat.

Like the member of a good crime syndicate, Trump protects his buddies who protect him. He rewarded Roger Stone's silent loyalty with commutation. His Justice Department dropped charges against Michael Flynn after Flynn pleaded guilty to the charges. And with Steve Bannon's days of freedom in peril, it feels as if the question isn't if Trump will pardon him but when.

Instead of standing up for truth in justice, Trump bristles at perjury charges - such as when Rudy Giuliani cried "perjury trap" to explain why the president would not be interviewed by Robert Mueller. Truth is truth, despite Giuliani's claim to the contrary, and there's no need to claim "perjury trap" when the facts are on your side.

Trump has even built lawlessness into his public policy. Dozens of officials from other countries have spent money at his properties, likely in violation of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. His foreign policy decisions reek of corruption and conflicts of interest, and his immigration policies have likely violated domestic and international law.

It goes on from there, rightfully.
