And so, our nation, that Democracy I was talking about?

Today's Republican Party, Disenfranchising Millions of Taxpaying American Citizens

We must stop and not allow, no way allow Republican Party vote suppression in any state in our Union. It's un-American. It's un-democratic. It's anti-democracy.
Please contact your Senators in Washington, DC. Tell them to vote FOR the For the People Act so we end gerrymandering by any and all poltical parties and get the dark money out of politics and get ethics back into our government.

Let's Be Clear About What the Republicans Are Doing to Our Elections and Vote

I hadn't heard of this man or his quote but it certainly seems to describe the Republicans' efforts, individually as well as by the political party, across the nation, to disenfranchise likely millions of fellow, taxpaying citizens.
Stop vote suppression.

Americans Need to Know and Understand and Fight What the Republicans Are Doing

From Heather Cox Richardson, once more. No one evaluates what's going on politically in America currently any better and informs, instructs us all.
Josh Marshall at Talking Points Memo articulated today what many have been reluctant to say: What is at stake in the Big Lie and all the Republican efforts to keep it in play—the shenanigans in the secret Maricopa County, Arizona, recount; the censuring of Republicans who voted to impeach the former president; the expected removal of Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney from a leadership role in the party; and so on—is not the past election of 2020, but the upcoming election of 2024.
The Republican Party has demonstrated that it intends to control the government in the future, no matter what most Americans want. Iowa, Georgia, Montana, and Florida have already passed voter suppression laws, while other states are considering them. (Governor Ron DeSantis signed Florida’s bill yesterday live on the Fox News Channel.)
As Marshall points out, though, making sure that states return only Republicans to Congress is also about controlling the White House. Republican lawmakers are purging from state election machinery members of their own party who refused to change the outcome of the 2020 election and give a victory to Trump. The former president has fed speculation that he still hopes to overturn the 2020 election, but Marshall looks forward: Is it really possible to think that in 2024, members of the new Trump party will protect the sanctity of any election that gives a victory to a Democratic candidate? If Republicans capture the House in 2022, will they agree to certify electoral votes for a Democrat? In 2020, even before the current remaking of the party in Trump’s image, 139 House Republicans contested them.
Trump is systematically going after leading members of the Republican Party, determined to remake it into his own organization. Several former senior White House officials told Ashley Parker and Josh Dawsey of the Washington Post that “[t]he defeated ex-president is propelled primarily by a thirst for retribution, an insatiable quest for the spotlight and a desire to establish and maintain total dominance and control over the Republican base.” Republican strategist Brendan Buck noted that Trump seems to relish fighting, rather than victory to achieve an end. “Usually,” Buck said, “a fight is the means to an end, but in this case fighting is the end.”
The Republicans are consolidating their control over the machinery of government in a way that indicates they intend to control the country regardless of what Americans actually want, putting Trump and his organization back in charge. Democrats have proposed the For the People Act (H.R. 1 and S. 1), which would start to restore a level playing field between the parties. The For the People Act would sideline the new voter suppression bills and make it easier to vote. It would end partisan gerrymandering and stop the flow of big money into elections permitted after the 2010 Citizens United decision.
But Republicans are determined to stop this measure. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is especially engaged in its obstruction. He has called it a “partisan takeover” that would “give Washington Democrats unprecedented control over 50 states’ election laws.” He recognizes that restoring a level electoral playing field would hamstring the Republicans’ ability to win elections. Defeating the act is McConnell’s top priority.
The story of how Republican leaders embraced voter suppression and gerrymandering starts back in the 1980s, though the mechanics of overturning a presidential election are new to 2020. Still, their undermining of our democratic system begs the question: Why are leading Republicans surrendering their party, and our nation, to a budding autocrat?
Two days ago, when asked if he is concerned about the direction of his party, McConnell told reporters that he is not paying attention to it because the Democrats are trying “to turn American into a socialist country,” and that “[o]ne-hundred percent of our focus is on stopping this new administration.”

America, Your Vote and Voting Rights Are Being Devoured

Yes, Mr. and Mrs. America, the Republicans and their Republican Party know they're so deeply umpopular with Americans across the nation, they have to make it tougher to the point of impossible for us, fellow taxpaying American citizens to vote.
This cannot stand. We cannot allow this. It's un-American and un-democratic. We must stop it, all of it, state to state across the nation. Vote them all out. Push to have Congress end the filibuster and pass the For the People Act so NO POLITICAL PARtY can gerrymander voting districts any longer. Please contact your Senators.Let's do this.

The Very Real Dangers of the Republicans' Vote Suppression

I don't think enough Americans realize what Republicans are doing and trying to do to our vote and votes, to our elections. That they even tried in Georgia to disenfranchise fellow citizens is horrible enough. That it has now expanded to 46 more states threatens our Democracy, no overstatement. Fortunately, people like Stacey Abrams, from Georgia are doing their best to get the word out across the nation. So what can we do? Glad you asked. Please support the For the People Act Contact your/our Senators today. Tell them to vote for and support it. Thanks in advance.Let's do this. We must.

GOP Finds Ways to be Worse

It's not bad enough the Republicans tried to deny our entire presidential election---and some still are. It wasn't bad enough they then began attempts at vote suppression in Georgia and then took it to 47 other states. No, all that wasn't bad enough. Now they want to punish Americans for our First Amendment right of Free Speech, too. As always, click on picture for larger picture, easier reading.
We have got to, got to vote them out. We've got to vote them all out.

Republicans Were Already Suppressing American Votes Back in 2012

Check out this memory I found today from back in 2012.
None other than a former GOP Party Chair Jim Greer revealed the details of conversations his fellow GOP colleagues had about changing election laws to suppress youth and minority voters that would "never vote Republican." And now, as we know, it's gotten much, much worse, their vote suppression work and efforts. We must vote them out. We must vote them all out. And to do it, we have to, have to stop vote suppression, on the state and federal level, both.

Quote of the Day -- On GOP Vote Suppression

"Expand the Supreme Court. Abolish the Electoral College. End the filibuster. The GOP calls these moves radical because they know once we make democracy work, they won't stand a chance." --Robert Reich @RBReich

The Outrage of Republican Party Vote Suppression

I can't get over the fact that not only are members of the Republican Party actively, publicly working to disenfranchise fellow American citizens presently, but it's reported they're doing it IN 47 STATES. (Click on picture for larger, easier viewing and reading).
We must realize this, America, and then actively work to end even any ATTEMPTS at vote suppression, to stop it. Discenfranchising fellow Americans is as un-American and anti-Democratic as anyone can get. Stop vote suppression. End racism.

Republicans Are Actively Working Against Democracy

Yes sir, Mr. and Mrs. America, Republicans are decidedly against Democracy. How else do you explain their work in now 47 states to have fewer, FEWER, Americans able to vote? Stop vote suppression. End gerrymandering. End dark money in our politics and government. Support the For the People Act. Call your Congressional representatives. It really is for the people.

What Passes for Republican Party Voting Logic

We can't stand for this, America. It's truly un-American.
This political party and its leaders are so bad, so poor and so unpopular with the majority of Americans, they've decided the only way the can get and/or stay in government office is to disenfranchise fellow Americans. This must end. This cannot stand. We must stop vote suppression. End racism. End white supremacy.

Republican Party Vote Fraud

Yes, by all means, Republicans, let's talk "vote fraud."
If the only way you can get elected or re-elected in your political party is to make sure fewer of your fellow citizens vote, something is seriously wrong with your political party and your ideas and goals and work. Stop vote suppression. End racism. End white supremacy.

Imagine Indeed

Imagine if Republicans put the same energy into doing good, positive things for the people and nation that they do fighting good things for us all. Imagine if they stopped only working to help the already-wealthy, corporations, their own political party and themselves

Be Aware, Missourians---Republicans In Jeff City Are Also Working on Vote Suppression Here

From NPR today: The same day last month that Georgia's legislature passed a controversial new voting bill, Missouri's Republican-led House approved one of its own. It would impose strict photo ID and other requirements on voting. Both bills are part of a wave of measures proposed across the country after the 2020 elections, and reflect a deep partisan divide over who has access to the polls and how. The divide is not new, but the sides have become increasingly entrenched.
Understand, folks. The Republicans and their ideas and work is so very unpopular with the rest of us out here in America that they have found the only way they can get or stay in government offie is to HAVE FEWER AMERICANS VOTE. They are actively working, now in 47 states, to disenfranchise fellow working, tax paying American citizens, voters. This cannot stand. We mustn't allow this. Call your government representatives. Tell them to support HR1 in the House and S1 in the Senate. We must stop all attempts at vote suppression.

The GOP, the Vote, Guns and You, America

Guess which it wants to have less of, if not even do away with?

Fantastic News for the Nation, for the People Today!

Yes sir and ma'am! Check out this fantastic news today: Record number of people now identifying as Democrats while GOP backing slumps. A double whammy of good news.
Democrats up, Republicans, understandably, down. More: The nine-point boost to Democrats is the largest since 2012. And the thing is, the Republicans are, thank goodness, doing it to themselves. They have wildly unpopular ideas for our people and nation and then, those ideas and the political party are so bad, so poor, so unpopular, they want to do all they can to disenfranchse us, keep us from voting or being able to vote, fellow taxpaying citiaens just so they can either get or stay in government office.
Fantastic, I tell you. Excellent. There are nothing but good words for these developments. Good on you, Americans, America. You can see these people for just precisely who and what they are. Kudos, y'all. Keep up the great, great work. Oh, and end vote suppression. And the filibuster---end the filibuster. Then, support the For the People Act and the American Jobs Plan. Let's do this! All of it!

Senator Hawley Has Outdone Himself Today

I couldn't believe Missouri's own Senator Josh Hawley and his Twitter post today: "MLB & the giant woke corporations keep telling Biden’s big lie about Georgia & election integrity. They want to run this country. They’ve been coddled by government for too long. We need to bust them up. Starting next week, I’ll introduce a trust busting agenda for 21st century."
Yes, corporations want to run America, all right. It's why they give Republicans hundreds of millions of dollars to put them in office. It's why and how we got the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, opening up our elections to yet more big, big money. Suddenly, the GOP is threatened because--whaddya' know?--Americans poured out to vote and their Orange Man lost the 2020 election. So now, those same Republicans in Georgia and 42 other states are trying to put into place laws to keep us, Americans, citizens, from voting. They and their ideas and policies are so unpopular, Republicans have found they can't get elected or re-elected unless or until they have fewer of us voting. So Jim Crow and more, here we go. Fortunately, some few corporate leaders have stood up and said they won't tolerate it. Consequently, suddenly Josh Hawley and the Republicans are against those corporations.
Senator Mitch McConnell had the nerve to come out and say the corporations can send their money but they have to just shut up, otherwise. Nearly unbelievable chutzpah from the lot of them. Well, America, we cannot let these vote suppression laws stand, as we know. We must end the filibuster in Congress and then pass the For the People Act to do away with gerrymandering vote districts, end dark money in politics and more. We must give power back to the people.
