ABC-TV: Where bad ideas go to die
Three quick examples: Mixing hour-long commericals for Disneyland and Disneyworld with "American's Favorite Videos." It's just painful.
The second bad idea is the new television show "Work It." It's so clearly a--bad--remake of the old TV show "Bosom Buddies", it's nearly unbelievable. They couldn't come up with any good, new, creative ideas so they resurrected this one. Yikes. Caution: train wreck ahead.
Finally, again, from the "we can't come up with any new ideas" bin, "Celebrity Wife Swap." As thought "Wife Swap" wasn't bad enough they have--again--resurrected this painful canard. I'm sure they're patting themselves on the back, thinking they've given it "new life" by throwing in D-List "celebrities" and bringing it back again. Wow. Even the commercials are painful. Good luck next February with the ratings sweeps, guys. You're going to need it. I mean, I know TV is a "vast wasteland" and has been for years--heck, decades now--but come on, are there NO new ideas and good writers out there ANYWHERE? And even if there isn't anyone there to come up with a good, new, creative, unique idea, isn't there anyone there who can put the brakes on when the ideas you come up with stink?

Since when did celebrities become authorities?
Two headlines out this afternoon: "Singer Pat Boone insists Obama born in Kenya" and "Tony Bennett Tells Howard Strern the U.S. 'Caused' 9/11." You know what, celebrities? SHUT THE HECK UP, how's that? Carlos Santana: Laying down a different kind of riff
Carlos Santana was at the annual Major League Baseball Civil Rights Game in Atlanta, receiving the Beacon of Change Award this weekend and surprised everyone there with a little speech and admonishment:
"The people of Arizona, and the people of Atlanta, Georgia, you should be ashamed of yourselves."
"This law is not correct. It's a cruel law, actually," Santana said in an impromptu news conference after the ceremony.
He was speaking of Georgia's new law, like Arizona's, that requires employers to check the immigration status of new hires and authorizes law enforcement officers to check the immigration status of some suspects.
"This is about fear. Stop shucking and jiving. People are afraid we're going to steal your job. No we aren't. You're not going to change sheets and clean toilets."
"This is the United States. This is the land of the free. If people want the immigration laws to keep passing, then everybody should get out and leave the American Indians here."
Further proof of what he says---next time you're driving through a neighborhood this Summer and it's 95 to 100 or more degrees out, if you see anyone on the roof of homes working on replacing the shingles, look closely. Chances are, you'll see it's Hispanics, working their figurative tails off.
Just saying.

For the ultimate in Royal Incest

Okay, sure, as "commoners", we've all joked about how the Royal Family is so inbred and that that's why Charles has those automobile-size ears of his (open, on his car, er, head) and we know they're all over Europe, what with having screwed up--I mean--been in charge of and run Germany and who knows were all but a little note in Parade Magazine this week, of all places, pointed out the absolute ultimate in Royal Incest (I love the capital letters here, don't you?).Check this out: Everyone knows Her Highness Queen Elizabeth has had Corgis forever, right? Turns out she's had 30 of the little buggers. (I can say "buggers", can't I? It's America, after all and we don't know it's not a good word over here, across the pond).
Anyway, she's had a bunch of these dogs.
So, it turns out she let one of her precious little corgis (I shouldn't be capitalizing THAT, too, should I?) while Maggie's--I mean, Princess Margaret's--dachsund was around.
Uh-oh.
It turns out you can't keep nature from taking over and next thing you know there's a puppy litter on its way.
But get this.
Apparently no one had ever done this--mated (mixed?) a dachsund with a corgi (I mean, really, who'd want to, right?) so what'd they get?
A new breed.
Seriously.
They have been called "dorgis" ever since.
I'm sure there are people all over England, the British Isles and Europe, for that matter, who have had to follow suit and get one of these critters.
So now, what I'd like to know is, does the Royal Family get any residuals from this?
You know what money-grubbers they are.
