In Which We Give David Glass His Due

A few years ago, when the Kansas City Royals were continually losing at baseball and the owner, David Glass, was spending very little on the team and being ranked one of the 3 worst Major League Baseball owners, I and a lot of others spoke ill of Mr. Glass and his ownership and managerial skills.

That was then.

Since that time, Mr. Glass has begun spending more on the the team and putting the right people in place to make things happen, in positive ways, for those same Royals, our own Kansas City Royals.

So here we are, the 2nd time the team is in the playoffs for the World Series--and won. So Tuesday, as the entire city and state and region and heck, the nation, knows, the Kansas City Royals are World Series bound.

So here's to you, Mr. Glass. We disparaged both your spending and managerial work. It's only fitting that we now, when they're winning, honestly praise him for getting the team where they are now.

Kudos to you, Mr. Glass.

And thank you.

Now, please keep it going, long as possible.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals and Kansas City, really, getting some kudos and attention, what with handling the Patriots tonight and the Royals in the playoffs.

Then Sporting Kansas City is the current reigning champions for pro soccer and the Kansas City Comets just won the indoor soccer championship.

Go KC!

I just saw these on an architect friend's Facebook page today. He's into design, rather naturally.

 

Wouldn't it be great if we organized a great number of people across the metropolitan area, at least, to buy one of these and then pitch them around our new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts one night?

I'm thinking maybe for some fundraiser or something.

July, 2012: A Huge Month for Kansas City (with thanks to the Kauffmans)

First we get the Major League Baseball All-star Game, July 10.



As if that weren't enough, as of last evening, local weather forecasters are also calling for a cool down to an 89 degree high for next Tuesday's game.

Yeehaw.

Then, next up Kansas City gets big national (international?) TV coverage on PBS, July 28, for our new performing arts center and local singer/performer Joyce DiDonato who has done so well for herself--and our city.



I'm telling you, between these two events, Kansas City, Missouri (sorry, Kansas) will be getting some fantastic national coverage and exposure. First for--literally--major league sports, then for major league art.

What's funny about all this attention, too, is that neither event--the Allstar Game or the PBS show on our Performing Arts Center--would have happened without Ewing, Muriel and Julie Kauffman. Many thanks, again, to all three. We are so fortunate in so many ways to have you in town and to be gifted by your presence and hard work and now, your many gifts to Kansas City.

Good on you, Kansas City. It's our time to shine.
