Someone wants raccoon pelts
Two days ago there was a local story about someone finding approximately 50 raccoons killed in a creek near Pattonsburg. Now, today, there is another, second story of the same: "A utility worker in Jackson County found about 60 of the animals in a field along Highway 50 near Milton Thompson Road. The animals had been skinned and dumped underneath a billboard." I mean, if you want raccoon pelts, and clearly someone does, please go about it in a more decent, if not out-and-out humane way, would you? It's not too much to ask. Clearly it's some guy out there who doesn't clean up after himself. And before the PETA people go all crazy on this one, they ought to keep in mind it's apparently not illegal. It's disgusting and, again, inumane, but not illegal.

I had a neighbor who trapped back in the 80's, raccoons, possums, etc. He decided to cook one of raccoon carcasses and cleaned it, put it in his smoker and cooked it slowly for a few hours. By the time it was done he was about half-drunk, took a knife and sliced a piece...said it tasted just like a smoked ham. Got my ex to eating it too. He cooked every one after that, and sold the possums to a man who would buy 20 or more at one time, $2 each, enough money to pay for his diesel fuel for his trapping truck.
