Things Will Likely Start Hitting the Fan for the Trumpster

Sure, we've all seen and heard this in the last 24 hours. The District Attorney of Manhattan has received The Donald's tax returns.

Added to that, however, is this added note from his own former attorney, Michael Cohen. Mr. Cohen says it's very likely he, Trump, if not also Ivanka and Donald Jr, his kids, will do jail time.

Oh, yeah. It looks like it's going to start getting really good. Pass the popcorn.

Further Proof How Dirty This President Is

This, this is exactly how dirty this President is. And he's, to date, gotten away with it.

A private company forgave a 130 million dollar debt from Trump after they got a federal contract. The story is from September, huge as it is.

Fortress forgave huge Trump loan, got federal permits to transport LNG by rail

"A multi-billion dollar private equity firm whose subsidiary was awarded two special permits by the Trump Administration to haul hazardous liquified natural gas (LNG), including by rail along Florida’s east coast, apparently forgave more than $100 million in debt owed by President Trump.

New York State Attorney General Letitia James filed a petition last month in the New York Supreme Court seeking to compel the Trump Organization to produce documents pertaining to a $130-million loan to Trump from Fortress Credit, part of the $45.5 billion Fortress Investment Group. The AG seeks to determine if the president evaded paying capital gains taxes on a large portion of the 2005 loan that the Attorney General says it has learned was “forgiven.” Trump and his staff have not cooperated in obtaining the loan documentation, the petition said."

Hey, it's just our tax dollars and federal government, right?  What's a little-- a lot?--of corruption between friends?

What's additionally bizarre about this is that it's so "in your face." So blatant. So obvious.

Let's hope the Rethugs haven't learned a thing here and keep on pushing budget cuts at the expense of the populace instead of corporate welfare cuts and closing corporate loopholes.

Talk about over-legislating

Okay, here we go.  This is what the Libertarians and maybe the Tea Party members are complaining about.  Talk about too much government.

Two states--Arkansas and New York, if you can believe that--are considering making walking or running while you text illegal:

After targeting drivers who paid more attention to their phone calls and text messages than the road, lawmakers in Arkansas and New York are now looking to crack down on pedestrians equally distracted by their own electronic gadgets.

Lawmakers in both states have proposed restrictions on using cell phones and music players such as iPods by people running and walking on the street or sidewalk. The apparent message: Distracted pedestrians are dangerous.

Right.

And who's going to police this?  The police?  They don't have enough to do?

My Conservative, long-dead, I believe Republican uncle once made a terrific statement I never forgot:  "You can't legislate us to utopia."

I didn't agree with a lot of his politics but I certainly agreed with that one.

Naturally, that came to mind here, with these goofy ideas.

How are we supposed to take Tea Party members seriously?

Here's one more example, in too long a line of examples, of an out of control Tea Party candidate, this time threatening a reporter in public. Seriously, how is this guy supposed to be taken seriously? He isn't even in office yet and he's threatening people. Sharon Angle, in Nevada, denies things she's already said not knowing the original is on video, Christine O'Donnell lies about her past and education AND says she dabbled in witchcraft, literally. Best city to raise a family?

Well, Des Moines has done it again.

They've come out on top of a list of "best"--this time, the "Best City to Raise a Family." It comes from Forbes Magazine.

I have to say, as an aside, this is fairly clever on Forbes' part as the magazine repeatedly gets quoted for these rather arbitrary rankings, first, and second, Americans love rankings and competitions, if even phony ones. Also, they only rank the "top ten", it seems, so we have no way of knowing where Kansas City ranks.

So hats off to you, Des Moines--great job.

The cities were ranked on cost of living, crime rate, commuting, household income, home ownership, homeowner costs and education.

There are some notable points of this list:

First, New York State was the one state that had more ranked cities in it than any other: Buffalo-Niagara Falls (10), Albany/Schenectady/Troy (9), Syracuse (4) and Rochester (3). For one state, that's fairly outstanding. New York State gets kudos, too.

Second, Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh-7 and Harrisburg-2) and Utah (Ogden-6 and Provo/Orem-5) each had 2 top ten rankings. Not shabby.

Third, I'm thinking our local political and city leaders shouldn't maybe mosey up to Des Moines in the near future, to see what they're doing right that we could emulate.

Fourth, I think we should try, if anything, shrinking our city limits so the core of the city is valued more and we don't keep sprawling. It hurts us maintaining all of it (sewers, streets, schools, etc.) and makes commuting that much worse, too.

Finally, I know our local crime rate hurts us, of course, in this ranking but I'm wondering if those same local political and city leaders (hear that, Mr. and Mrs. Mayor, etc?) might look at these and, after addressing our most pressing problems (especially the shootings, murders, murder rate, drive-by killings, etc.), they might not try to get us higher on these categories, for our own benefit.

That would make this list a valuable assist to us, at least here in town, so we could make this a better place to live yet.
