Watchdog alleges Trump campaign illegally concealed $170 million in spending

A nonpartisan watchdog filed a complaint with the Federal Election Committee (FEC) on Tuesday alleging President Trump’s reelection campaign broke the law by “laundering” $170 million in spending in an effort to conceal payments to people close to the Trump family and campaign.

The 81-page complaint, filed by the Campaign Legal Center (CLC), alleges that former Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale used a “pass-through” company to pay downstream vendors, including Trump campaign members, associates and family members.

“This illegal conduit scheme leaves voters in the dark about the entities working for the Trump campaign, the nature of their services, and the full amount they are paid,” said Brendan Fischer, the CLC’s director of federal reform. “We don’t know all of what is being hidden by this scheme, but we do know that it violates the law.”

Our elections and government aren't already too flush with money

Now there's a chance the Supreme Court will make our campaign contribution extravaganzas even worse.

I just got this email this week:

In less than a month, the Supreme Court will take up a case called McCutcheon v. FEC  that would strike down some of the last remaining anti-bribery limits and usher in an era of unlimited corruption. It's Citizens United Round 2, it's a disaster, and if it stands, you can say buh-bye to whatever's left of our representative government.

Can you imagine yet MORE money flowing into our elections, buying our representatives and elections?

On Moran and Tiahrt right now

Two recent news events occurred having to do with this senate race in Kansas that need to be noted. First, In their Republican primary campaigns for the U.S. Senate in Kansas, Jerry Moran raised nearly $90,000 more than Todd Tiahrt during the second quarter, according to a report filed this week with the Federal Election Commission. Moran also had nearly $1 million more in cash on hand than his congressional colleague at the end of the second quarter on June 30. So Jerry's kicking Todd's butt, money-wise. Secondly, Jerry Moran is still 14 points ahead of Todd T. in a very recent poll by SurveyUSA conducted for KWCH-TV in Wichita. Sure, Tiahrt gained a bit of ground but he's still pretty far back in popularity if we can trust this poll--and there's no reason to think otherwise. So, now, prediction: watch for the Tiahrt campaign to come out very ugly, very soon, and start attacking Jerry Moran even more, for not being "Conservative", Right wing and "Republican" enough. This political party has long been "eating its own young" and it will now continue here, more locally.
