Quote of the day

"If a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich."

Never in my 58 years, have I seen such unmitigated hatred of, & contempt for, the poor as I see now. I remember George II saying that he wanted a 'kinder & gentler' America. Since then, the Republican Party has waged unceasing war against the poor. Maybe, when Clinton gets back from Israel, she can broker a cease fire here. Most of the people I come into contact with are unemployable, except for mowing grass, mostly because they are shell shocked. America needs to stop waging war against itself.

The unemployed are not bums, they are workers without jobs. Europeans see the distinction, but Americans don't. Its 'Get a Job, bum' even if you don't have a car to drive to work in, even if you don't have any decent clothes to wear, even if your high school education is only good for mowing grass.

Don't drink, don't do drugs, obey the laws, even if we treat you poorly. Be nice to us, even as we hate you. Americans should be very grateful that open class warfare hasn't broken out. Most crime is class warfare, but only a few people seem to see that.

People talk of the gap between the middle class & the rich, but the gap between the middle class & the poor is much broader, because it isn't just about the money, its about the feeling of being left behind. The feeling that we aren't really Americans anymore, that we are aliens & refugees in our own country.

While I agree, I also have to say it's sad that we've lost the humanity to emphasize and even sympathize with the poor and/or less fortunate, so much so that supposedly "good, God-fearing" people who otherwise call themselves "Christians" revile those unemployed and under-employed and want to deny them any assistance from the rest of us, however small.

We have become a mean and mean-spirited, selfish people, too many of us.

Thanks for the note.

Happy Thanksgiving, regardless.

You make a good point, too, about what I see as the blindness of too many white people to what this nation and too many of us, nationwide, have done in the past to particularly black Americans, and what's still going on today.

It's disgusting.

I hope you have a good day, Kevin.

For myself, I regard the holidays as for my wife. They are important to her, & I just focus on trying to see that she has a good day. I don't get it myself. To me its just a big lie.

When Lincoln created this holiday, he wasn't thinking about the Pilgrims. Don't get me started about Saturnalia.

Thanks, Byron, you have a great day, too.

I'm just going to take it easy, read a bit, write to some family and friends and watch a bit of tv later. An easy, wonderful day--and weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving (anyway).
