"It's hard to demand new jobs when it is apparent businesses are doing better than ever with fewer employees (who are receiving less and less pay)." --Tom Palmer, Facebook.

Anyone who demands jobs doesn't understand capitalism.

I think their use of the word here is referring merely to people who might be unemployed and desperate, pleading for a job, more like, not as much demanding.

Yes, MO, I know. However, no one is entitled to a job, & no one is required to provide jobs. Most middle class Americans are in fact Socialists, though they have been indoctrinated to believe that Socialism is a bad thing.

Middle class Americans want: good jobs, affordable housing, good health care, affordable educations,
lots of up to date infrastructure,
etc. But, capitalism will only provide these things if its convenient & profitable. The idea that these are 'rights' or the duty of government is socialism. A capitalist will only give you a job if he determines that he will make more money from your labor than that labor costs him. If you starve to death, that is no concern of his.

We should stop pretending that we are capitalists & quit hoping that the rich, the government, or God, will provide the things we want. We should accept that these are the things we want & will do what it takes to have them, & if it offends the delicacies of the dogmatists ...

And yes, Byron, I know--and agree--most of America is Socialist, actually. Our companies, by and large, practice pretty open free-market Capitalism because they can buy their and our representatives, their legislation and so, our laws and government.

But the people have different ways our government assist us, be it through loans for housing or education (and the education is a good thing), farm subsidies, lots of other business subsidies (the worst being "Big Oil" subsidies, etc.

If only our government weren't run for the wealthy and corporations as it is now. Maybe one day soon we'll learn. I doubt it but I can hope.
