I'm so old...
...I remember when learning how to type was a choice. "Should I take typing class?" It wasn't absolutely necessary to exist, it was an option--usually for "secretaries." Remember them? And remember when being called a secretary wasn't pejorative? Yeah, THAT old.

When I lived in Nashville, I worked at a factory during the day & went to a business college at night to learn to become a secretary. Male secretaries weren't laughed at then; they were highly valued. I got hired by the college president's husband before I had even earned my diploma.
I saw a movie once about the first woman to become a secretary & how rough it was for her. Woman weren't supposed to work at anything at all. They were only 'allowed' to be housewives.

We can only begin to list how many changes--social, technological, etc.--have been made in the last 50 or more years.
