Happy Father's Day
If you still have your father, your Dad, I hope you've told him you love him.
I hope, for both your sakes, you can.
And happy Father's Day out there, to all the Dads.

Do You Know the Source of Father's Day?
A woman, Sonora Smart Dodd came up with the idea of a Father's Day and celebrating fathers. It was in 1910 out in what was then the far, rather undeveloped West in Spokane, Washington.
She began the idea in 1910. The first national recognition of it was by President Woodrow Wilson but few other Presidents after him followed his lead. It wasn't actually made national and official until 1966 by Lyndon Johnson. It was made the third Sunday of June, following Mother's Day, of course. It wasn't, still, a permanent national day until 1972 with then President Richard Nixon.
Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there. It's your day. Enjoy.

Father's Day
Having met and known someone--well--who didn't/doesn't respect his own father (or mother, for that matter) helps me value and appreciate my own father (and yes, mother) that much more.
Happy Father's Day out there to all the dads. Enjoy your day.

June 1: International Children's Day

From Wikipedia:
Children's Day is recognized on various days in many places around the world, to honor children globally. It was first proclaimed by the World Conference for the Well-being of Children in 1925 and then established universally in 1954 to protect an "appropriate" day.
International Day for Protection of Children, observed in many countries as Children's Day on June 1 since 1950, was established by the Women's International Democratic Federation on its congress in Moscow (22 November 1949). Major global variants include a Universal Children's Day on November 20, by United Nations recommendation.

Topsy-turvy Summer
It seems like we had August in June and July and we're having--what?--June in August?
I'll take this, for sure.
Here's hoping on that rain for Thursday.

You think it's good news... and then, wham
First you see the headline: Unemployment rate falls in 39 states in June
Then you read the first line in the article: The unemployment rate fell in most states in June, mainly because more people gave up searching for work and were no longer counted.
Dang. There went that hope thing.
