This is stunning to me. It was only a few days ago that Jackson County, finally, finally flipped from getting the vaccine for Phase 1B, Tier 1 for "First Responders, Emergency Services and Public Health Infrastructure" to now, Phase 1B, Tier 2--"High Risk Individuals (18-64) and Individuals 65>." Whoop-tee-doo. Now, check out this little celebration going on today on social media.
On March 15--TWO WEEKS FROM NOW, of course--we'll switch to "Criical Infrastructure" citizens of Missouri. Just that. That's all. And keep in mind, there are still FIVE, count them, 5 more levels until the get down to all the rest of us average citizens out here in the state.
How does this remotely make sense? How is this not insane? How is this not the most pitifully slow rollout of a very needed vaccine the world has needed in the last more than 100 years? Thanks, Mr. Trump! Thanks, Republicans! Y'all are just terrific. Really.
Yes, now former Senator Claire McCaskill asks an excellent question and makes a great challenge to local, regional and state media.

"Let me say it again. 24 MASS VACCINATION SITES OVER THE NEXT WEEK. ONLY 1!!!! in Jackson County, St Louis County, St Louis City and Boone County. COMBINED! This is a scandal. Where are our journalists? Where are our elected officials?
@GovParsonMO"
This was her response to this post on Twitter.

Again, excellent question.
We, here in Jackson County, Kansas City, only just came off Phase 1B, tier 1 in the last few days for these vaccinations which are for 1st responders, emergency services and public heath infastructure citizens only. Now, we're finally but only on high risk individuals 18-64 and individuals, citizens 65 and over. We only just got there very recently, in the last few days.
So... Local news stations? KCPT? KCUR? KCTV5? KMBC? WDAF? Fox 4? We have a story for you. And we need to hear about this and badly. For that matter, Governor Parson? Do you have answers for us? Information? Solutions? Any good news? Anything encouraging?
WHY ARE WE STILL IN PHASE 1B, TIER 1 IN JACKSON COUNTY, MISSOURI, for only first responders, emergency services & public health infrastructure?
We've been there for WEEKS.
Are we EVER going to get the vaccine????
In fairness, an answer today, this morning, from the Jackson County Health Department:
Thanks for your email. For the last several weeks the state has not sent us vaccines, so we have not been able to offer appointment times for 1st doses in your tier. We hope to be able to offer appointments again in the next few weeks. In the meantime if you have a primary care provider you can reach out to them and the hospital they are affiliated with. They may be able to get you an appointment at the hospital before we have times available. You can also reach out to the State of Missouri Vaccine Navigators at 1-877-435-8411 or https://covidvaccine.mo.gov/navigator to get more information on various organizations receiving vaccine.
We Missourians voted in a law to clean up our government so, what the hey? The Republicans created new legislation to---wait for it---undo our own wishes. Stunning.
And now, today, this just broke, nearly unbelievably.
Check this story out. It has to do with the two rich people who went outside their mansion a week or two ago in St. Louis and pulled guns on otherwise peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters.
Kim Gardner is the Circuit Attorney, or chief prosecutor, for the city of St. Louis. She was elected by the people of St. Louis in 2016 and assumed her duties in January 2017. She is the first African American to hold that position.
Trump and Parsons want to remove her from office because they don’t want her to prosecute the McCloskeys. Parsons wants to change Missouri law to give the power to remove her to the state government, somehow. Of course Trump has no authority to mess with elected officials of a state, never mind a city,. But it strikes me that for a state government to remove the elected official of a city flies in the face of the principles of republican (small R) government.
Then there's the fact that the Republicans are trying to dismantle the USPS, the Postal Service and have been for some time.
Now, the Trump administration wants statistics and health care data on and about and during this very killing, national and international pandemic to no longer go to the CDC.
Okay, so Governor Mike Parson finally, finally did the right thing here, by putting on the stay at home order to go statewide but.... it takes effect next week? Monday?
What? So we can get in one last fun weekend?
Really?
Is that so we can all party down, one last time, before ferreting away?
Did anyone notify him there's an international pandemic? That that's what this is about and for? No one told him time is an issue here?
A bit from the article: Of the 10 states that have yet to enact a statewide stay-at-home order to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Missouri has the most confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Numbers collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — and updated as of Thursday morning — showed that Missouri had 1,581 cases, nearly 300 more than South Carolina, the state with the second most. (On Thursday afternoon, updated figures from Missouri showed the number had increased to 1,834).
It goes on:
...Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during CNN’s Thursday night coronavirus town hall that these last remaining states should reconsider and join the other governors who have issued an order.
“I don’t understand why that’s not happening,” Fauci said.
We couldn't agree with you more, Dr. Fauci.
Thanks, Governor!
Thanks, Republicans!
More from the Star--articles and ammunition on this issue, both:
Sir, you are not doing yourself or our state, Missourians, any favors by his not putting in place a statewide stay-at-home order for this coronavirus pandemic. Just check out a few of the headlines. So far, as you know, this has been your stance, through today.
Here's just some statistics for the nation, breaking today from The Hill:
U.S. death toll tops 5,000:
More than 1,000 Americans died of the coronavirus yesterday, moving the total American deaths from the virus to more than 5,100. https://bit.ly/39AYhZT
In the New York City metropolitan area alone: More than 1,374 people have died. The states total deaths have totaled at least 1,941, according to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D). https://bit.ly/3aDWZ1o
You know, we know, you need the hard support of all his Republican and Right Wing, very conservative base and you maybe want to follow this President's lead, perhaps.
But here's the thing. Here's why these stay-at-home orders are needed just now and so important.
Sure, it's tough, very tough on the economy and business.
But what, ultimately, is more important?
Business or our lives?
So we implore you, Governor Parsons. please issue a statewide stay-at-home order at least through April 24 or the end of April. At least. It's the right thing to do. Heck, even Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis did it, yesterday. Even he saw the importance of it.
Please sir. Do this. Do the right thing. And soon as possible. Today would be great. These are tough times. This is a tough situation. We, the citizens of Missouri, need this.
Sincerely,
Lots of Missouri citizens, all across the state, including and maybe especially the medical community of our state
