Good news for Missouri and our Senator Roy Blunt!

Senator Roy Blunt and his staff must surely be celebrating as it was announced today that he is not, this year, on the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington list of The Most Corrupt Members of Congress (as he was in the past):

Yeehaw!

I know I'm happy about it and I'm just a constituent.

No laws about throwing away or trashing government computers?

I keep remembering that ol' Mittens Romney had computers erased and destroyed on his way out of office back in Massachusetts, when he was governor. Did you read or hear about it?

Mitt Romney administration deleted emails before leaving office

"It doesn't appear to have been illegal, but this, from the Boston Globe, doesn't make Mitt Romney's administration look particularly open and transparent:

Just before Mitt Romney left the Massachusetts governor’s office and first ran for president, 11 of his top aides purchased their state-issued computer hard drives, and the Romney administration’s e-mails were all wiped from a server, according to interviews and records obtained by the Globe.

Romney administration officials had the remaining computers in the governor’s office replaced just before Governor Deval Patrick’s staff showed up to take power in January 2007 … Beth E. Myers, who was Romney’s chief of staff, bought her hard drive on Aug. 18, 2006, the same month that she left state employment.

Peter G. Flaherty, who was Romney’s deputy chief of staff, bought the hard drive from his computer on Nov. 3, 2006 ... Flaherty later became the Romney campaign’s chief liaison to social conservatives."

I don't mind telling you folks here and I think most, if not all, would agree, first, I think this is wrong since these were government computers, reputedly doing government--the people's--work.

Second, I think this could, of course, likely cover up things that otherwise shouldn't have happened.

Third, and most importantly, I think it needs to be said and acted on that this is made illegal--very strictly and clearly illegal--in each and every of the 50 states, all our cities and counties and then in our Federal Government, too.

Every government employee--every one of them--needs to be held accountable for their actions and official words and deeds. These are OUR computers, people, again, supposedly doing our work. It shouldn't be possible to be able to either sell these computers or trash the information on them.

Making this illegal would make our representatives at least somewhat more accountable for their words and actions in office, if not a great deal more.

What troubles me is that there doesn't seem to be an existing outcry for anything like this to happen.

Left as it is, legal to give or throw away this information, will lead to not good things.

If it hasn't already.

12 Corporations pay tax rate of -1.5% on $171B in profits, then it gets worse

The Citizens for Tax Justice put out a report that shows that Twelve Corporations Pay Effective Tax Rate of Negative 1.5% on $171 Billion in Profits; Reap $62.4 Billion in Tax Subsidies What this means, boys and girls, is that not only did they NOT PAY ANY TAXES but, worse, WE PAID THEM TO DO BUSINESS. Sound fair? No, no it's not. Legal, yes. Unethical? For sure. Insane? You bet. This is no way to run a country. Feel like a sucker yet? A reminder on now-Senator Roy Blunt

Just because Roy Blunt was--foolishly--voted into his current, new position as Senator from the great state of Missouri is no time to forget that he was, last year, up until the election, on the following list:

Ciitizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington's (CREW's) Most Corrupt List:

26 REASONS FOR ETHICS REFORM

See that guy up there in the number 2 position?  Yeah, that one.  That would be our now-Senator Roy Blunt.

Now that he's a Senator in Washington---dangit---let's keep the pressure on.  Let's make sure he knows we want and need good and good, clean government and actions from him, now that he's representing us in this new and powerful position of his.

Now that we chuckleheads in Missouri are going to, likely, vote him back in the same seat for as long as he wants to hold it.

Nobody ever said we were terribly bright.

If he's not honest and "clean", it's our fault, for not getting him there and demanding and requiring it of him.

Roy Blunt at top of "America's Most Crooked Candidates" right now

From Alternet and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, just now: Roy Blunt -- Running for U.S. Senate, Missouri Roy Blunt is a candidate in the Republican primary for the United States Senate in Missouri. For the last 14 years, Rep. Blunt has served in the U.S. House of Representatives in the state’s 7th congressional district. As a member of Congress, Rep. Blunt came under fire for a variety of issues including employing the same corrupt tactics that forced his mentor, former Texas Rep. Tom DeLay, to resign. Rep. Blunt’s ethical issues were documented in CREW’s 2006 report on the most corrupt members of Congress. In 2003, Rep. Blunt divorced his wife of 31 years to marry Philip Morris (now Altria) lobbyist Abigail Perlman. Before it was known publicly that Rep. Blunt and Ms. Perlman were dating – and only hours after Rep. Blunt assumed the role of Majority Whip – he tried to secretly insert a provision into Homeland Security legislation that would have benefitted Philip Morris, at the expense of competitors. Notably, Philip Morris/Altria and its subsidiaries contributed at least $217,000 to campaign committees connected to Rep. Blunt from 1996 to 2006. Also in 2003, Rep. Blunt helped his son, Andrew Blunt, by inserting a provision into the $79 billion emergency appropriation for the war in Iraq to benefit U.S. shippers like United Parcel Service, Inc. and FedEx Corp. Andrew Blunt lobbied on behalf of UPS in Missouri, and UPS and FedEx contributed at least $58,000 to Rep. Blunt from 2001 to 2006. Family connections have also helped another of Rep. Blunt’s sons, former Missouri Governor Matt Blunt. Gov. Blunt received campaign contributions from nearly three dozen influential Missouri lobbyists and lawyers when he ran for governor of Missouri in 2004, half of whom had provided financial support to his father. Earlier in 2000, when Matt Blunt was running for Secretary of State, Rep. Blunt was involved in an apparent scheme, along with Rep. DeLay, to funnel money through a local party committee into Matt Blunt’s campaign committee. Rep. Blunt and his staff had close connections to convicted former lobbyist Jack Abramoff. In June 2003, Mr. Abramoff persuaded then-Majority Leader DeLay to organize a letter, co-signed by then-Speaker Dennis Hastert, then-Whip Blunt, and then-Deputy Whip Eric Cantor, which endorsed a view of gambling law benefitting Mr. Abramoff’s client, the Louisiana Coushatta, by blocking gambling competition by another tribe. Mr. Abramoff had donated $8,500 to Rep. Blunt’s leadership PAC, Rely on Your Beliefs. Holy cow, people, let's not vote him back into office---let's throw this bum out! Important Senate election this Fall

When it comes time to vote for a Senator for Missouri this Fall, keep in mind that the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), voted Roy Blunt as one of the most unethical members of Congress.

Additionally, the website theMiddleClass.org gave our same Representative Roy Blunt failing grades--all F's --when ranking him for his work for us in Congress from 2003 through 2008. (They're still compiling data on all our representatives for 2009.)

It seems he supports corporations and "Big Business" just fine.

You and me out here in the working Middle Class, not so much.

At all.

The website Public Citizen (www.citizen.org) compiled "a disturbing dossier on Blunt, based on original research and a comprehensive compilation of news accounts of recent months. In the end, what emerges is a portrait of a legislative leader who not only has surrendered his office to the imperative of moneyed interests, but who has also done so with disturbing zeal and efficiency."

Public Citizen came to the conclusion that "Ties to special interests" leave him "unfit to lead."

I can go on about Roy Blunt and how he is and has been for (against?) Missourians but I'll only post this one more note--that is, how Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele himself came down on the issue of Roy Blunt:

"...conservative Springfield radio host Vincent David Jericho spoke with RNC Chairman Michael Steele. In their conversation, Jericho unleashed a litany of criticisms against Roy Blunt, Matt Blunt and other Washington Republicans."

"'Guys like Papa Blunt make us sick to our stomach. They aren’t conservatives, and they sure don’t reflect moral absolute the way that we expect the Republican Party to stand up,' Jericho said."

"Steele responded: 'I agree with you. And when stuff gets in the crapper, you gotta clean it out.'"

So there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Even the present leader of the Republican Party spells out what kind of a guy Roy Blunt is and who should vote for him.

Sure, it's early in the Fall Senate election cycle but I want to make sure as many Missourians as possible know all they can about Roy (and Matt) Blunt and their allegiances and histories.

If you need more information, just Google "Roy Blunt". It will quickly and easily give you all you need to know about this man.
