How does Rolling Stone do it, anyway?

Do the guys over at Rolling Stone offer booze and/or pot or drugs to the people they interview for their stories or what? How is it that someone like General Stanley McChrystal, the commander of all U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, would shoot his mouth off to a Rolling Stone interviewer about the Obama Administration staff and get himself "sideways" and in trouble?
