Kansas Tea Party hits big national news as racists

Here we go again, from Yahoo! News and the AP wire Sunday evening: Kansas tea party illustration draws racism claims HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) — A tea party group in Kansas says its depiction of President Barack Obama as a skunk is satire, not racism as the leader of a civil rights group alleges. Hutchinson-based Patriot Freedom Alliance says on its website that like the president, the skunk is "half black, half white, and almost everything it does stinks." The Hutchinson News (http://bit.ly/vT6l8u) reports local NAACP president Darrell Pope sees no humor in the depiction, which he calls a blatant statement of racism. Local tea party supporter Chuck Sankey says former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been the target of worse insults than what's on the website. See? If they hadn't said anything about being "half black, half white", they might have gotten away with it, without being racist. But they just couldn't leave it alone. Polls Indicate Sarah Palin Should Just Forget About 2012 Presidential Run

A poll released by USA Today/Gallup this week revealed that Palin would have a tough time beating President Barack Obama in a bid for president in 2012. Although the poll shows that the president himself is up against 46 percent who will "definitely not" vote for him in the next election, it is still a far cry from having 65 percent say they will not. The poll also had bad news for current Republican frontrunner Donald Trump as well, revealing that 64 percent will "definitely not" vote for the New York real estate tycoon as well.


As if that's not enough good news, there's more:  


...with tell-all books coming from a political insider (Frank Bailey) and from the father of her daughter's child (Levi Johnston), exposes that will undoubtedly not be flattering to the former Alaska governor, the numbers in next month's Gallup polls may paint even bleaker political pictures for Palin.


Be still, my heart.

Finally, lest anyone feel sorry for Ms. Palin, she can now take the millions of dollars she's gotten from the last few years and do whatever.  I don't think for a moment we've seen the last of her but clearly, money-wise, she came out on top.

Holy cow, I do believe they're serious

Sadly, it's serious.  They mean this.  It's not satire.

I fear for this country.

(Except I will say this--there is a good possibility, statistically-speaking, that the people singing this don't regularly, reliably vote.  Hopefully they won't, still, should "the Quitter" run for the presidency.  Here's hoping.)

You realize, too, right? that this "church", wherever and whosever it is, should have their tax-exempt status revoked, too, don't you?

"Quitter" Sarah Palin wants it both ways

Okay, so former Alaska Governor and permanent quitter Sarah Palin goes a speakin' up in Iowa--precursor to Presidential run?--and, as I suggested above, wants it both ways. On the one hand, she says "we"--I assume she means Republicans or maybe she just means the "Right Wing" and/or "Conservatives"--need to unite. From NPR this morning: "Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was coy about her future political plans, but she did have a message for fellow Republicans at Friday's annual Ronald Reagan Dinner in Iowa: It's time to unite." And that's all well and good and to be expected since, divided, they'll go nowhere. That and the fact that she's taking heat lately for doing the opposite--for dividing the party. And check this out, this where it gets good. After she says they need to unite, she says the following: "Maybe we need instant replay for political speeches. That might make it easier to see, in Sarah Palin's much anticipated Iowa speech Friday evening, the former Republican vice presidential nominee playfully telling Karl Rove where to go, if you catch my drift, without actually saying it. The moment in question came during the part of the speech where Palin was saying how she would dole out assignments if she were the running the Republican Party, like a football coach runs a team, in the weeks leading up to the November election. She would tell Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, a major player in Tea Party movement as she is, "You're awesome. We need you down south." She'd tell Mitt Romney to go campaigning in the West, George W. Bush to raise money and Rush Limbaugh to 'go deep, go anywhere, everywhere, people are listening.' When she got to Rove, at about the 27:54 point in the C-Span recording she said: And Karl, Karl, go to (she pauses ever so slightly and her demeanor stiffens subtly) here. You can come to Iowa. And Karl Rove and the other leaders who will see the light and realize that these are just the normal hard-working patriotic Americans who are saying no, enough is enough. We want to turn this around and we want to get back to those time-tested truths that are right for America." So on the one hand, she says get together. Then she turns 'round and tells at least one guy--and likely his followers--they can either go away or do it her way. I can just imagine how Karl Rove will take to that, can't you? Update on the Sarah Palin/Vanity Fair Article

Just what it says--from The Huffington Post, just now: The author of the blistering Vanity Fair profile on Sarah Palin says he wanted to write a positive piece, but was shocked by what he learned as he researched his story. "The worst stuff isn't even in there," Michael Joseph Gross said on "Morning Joe" Thursday. "I couldn't believe these stories either when I first heard them, and I started this story with a prejudice in her favor. I have a lot in common with this woman. I'm a small-town person, I'm a Christian, I think that a lot of her criticisms of the media actually have something to them. And I think she got a bum ride, but everybody close to her tells the same story." In the profile, Gross paints Palin as an abusive, retaliatory figure with an extreme ability to lie. "This is a person for whom there is no topic too small to lie about," he said. "She lies about everything." Another, new reason to dread 9/11 this year

I've grown to annually dread September 11 (or 9/11 as it's so repeatedly referred to). The original New York/Pennsylvania/Pentagon tragedy was bad news enough. Now so many people want to run it back up the flag pole, every time it comes around, so we have to live through it (salute it?) one more time so they can be all falsely patriotic and shove it down everyone else's throats. So just when I don't think it can possibly get any worse, it does. Check this out from the same Sarah Palin/Vanity Fair article I posted earlier today: ...Glenn Beck has booked the Dena’ina Center, the largest venue in Anchorage, for a speech on September 11, 2010... “Listen, listen, listen: Why in the world do you imagine Glenn Beck would come to Anchorage on 9/11? Think you know Sarah Palin?

Until this morning, I just wrote off Sarah Palin as someone too uninformed and emotionally unstable and, ultimately, inconsequential, to take seriously or to bother myself with. As I said--until this morning. I just got finished reading a Vanity Fair piece on her. Holy cow. Besides making millions of more dollars than I thought she was, she also has far more followers than I realized. If even half of this article is true, folks, we have every reason to be scared. She is nuttier than I knew. A portion of the article: Sarah Palin’s connection with her audience is complete. People who admire her believe she is just like them, and this conviction seems to satisfy their curiosity about the objective facts of her life. Those whose curiosity has not been satisfied have their work cut out for them. Palin has been a national figure for barely two years—John McCain selected her as his running mate in August 2008. Her on-the-record statements about herself amount to a litany of untruths and half-truths. With few exceptions—mostly Palin antagonists in journalism and politics whose beefs with her have long been out in the open—virtually no one who knows Palin well is willing to talk about her on the record, whether because they are loyal and want to protect her (a small and shrinking number), or because they expect her prominence to grow and intend to keep their options open, or because they fear she will exact revenge, as she has been known to do. It is an astonishing phenomenon. Colleagues and acquaintances by the hundreds went on the record to reveal what they knew, for good or ill, about prospective national candidates as diverse as Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Al Gore, and Barack Obama. When it comes to Palin, people button their lips and slink away. I'm telling you, this is an excellent and important read. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to find out about this woman. She is one scary individual. And she has more power and money than I knew right now.
