Missouri on list of "10 States Most at Risk for Major Disaster"

And while the bad news is Missouri is on this list, if there's good news, it is that we're ranked in last place:

10 States Most At Risk For Major Disasters

What they have to say about us:

The Show-Me State has been shown disastrous weather in every month of the year: severe snow and ice storms in winter, tornadoes during the spring, summer and fall, and flooding at virtually any time.

Major disaster declarations since 1953: 53

Yikes.

Check that out. Every month of the year.

I live here and didn't know that.

2011's weather catastrophes

"To date, the United States set a record with 12 separate billion-dollar weather/climate disasters in 2011, with an aggregate damage total of approximately $52 billion. This record year breaks the previous record of nine billion-dollar weather/climate disasters in one year, which occurred in 2008. These 12 disasters alone resulted in the tragic loss of 646 lives, with the National Weather Service reporting over 1,000 deaths across all weather categories for the year." --The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Link: http://www.truth-out.org/how-now-brown-cloud-what-smog-hath-wrought/1324077646

Oklahoma: It sucks to be you

Sure, we've always known Oklahoma was famous for its tornadoes and people called it either "Tornado alley" or knew it was part of it. Now? It seems Oklahoma is on a fault line. Did you know that? (The Meers). I didn't. That and it USED to have about 50 earthquakes per year. Now? Since 2009? It's increased. 2010? Way more. How about 1047 of them? Yeah, that many. And the thing is, much as these Oklahomans love their oil money and all that, ever since "fracking" for natural gas has taken hold down there, there are more and more earthquakes. Many more. Coincidence? It wouldn't seem so, would it? We'll see. Quote of the day--peaceful coexistence

"We are on the cusp of a significant turning point in history - either these instances of really terrible seemingly unstoppable catastrophic disasters will increase and get worse or we will wake up and make the changes we need to make to transform them into planetary peace and stability. It is up to us to choose, but first we must each take responsibility for our own part of the problem." --Yehuda Berg
