The Fox Channel and "Glee" do it again
I'd written earlier on The cash cow that is "Glee" and it seems they've just added yet more to this recently with a new "The Glee Project":
By David Knowles | Reuters
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - You may have noticed that those lovable "Glee" kids are getting a little old. With senior year at McKinley right around the corner, the show's producers faced an unenviable decision: cast a new crop of song birds to replace Rachel and company, or figure out a plot line that flunks the current cast so as to make them repeat the 12th grade.

With senior year at McKinley right around the corner, the show's producers faced an unenviable decision: cast a new crop of song birds to replace Rachel and company, or figure out a plot line that flunks the current cast so as to make them repeat the 12th grade.
Picking the former option, the show's creator, Ryan Murphy -- along with fellow executive producers Dante Di Lorento, Michael Davies (
'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'
) and Shauna Minoprio (Top Chef) -- killed two birds with one stone, fashioning a reality show about the hunt for new talent.
Just one more way this hugely successful franchise is going to rake in yet more millions of dollars.

The cash cow that is "Glee"
Think about it.
Sure, the TV show "Glee", on Fox, is a big, surprise success so that right there is going to get them untold millions of dollars.
Good for them.
And it's about inclusiveness and open-mindedness and song and dance and just fun. That's great. (If only their owner, Rupert Murdoch, were for open-mindedness and inclusion).
So along with all that success, though, it seems Fox has really made a point of getting all the mileage--and dollars--out of this success they can.
Who knew they had an annual summer tour that crossed America?
I sure didn't.
There's some more spondooliks, right there.
Then there's their sponsoring products. They do an advertisement for Ritz Crackers I saw the other day.
And Chevrolet. They do commercials for them.
Added to this is all the DVD's they sell.
AND the music downloads.
Now if only it didn't all just make Rupert Murdoch that much wealthier.
And more powerful.
And more powerful.

For the Gleeks in the area
There is a "Glee Live" Tour for 2011.
And it's with the actual cast members.
Apparently there was one last year, too.
How did I miss that?
That's the good news.
The bad news?
The closest it gets to Kansas City is just outside Chicago, in Rosemont, Illinois. (It also gets to Minneapolis, MN and Indianapolis, IN this Summer, too but that's it).
Maybe next year.

Thoughts on TV last evening
---Why are so many (all?) of the shows for the Fox Channel "Viewer Discretion Advised"? House? Really?
---Why would ANYONE want a "Windows phone"? Aren't there enough problems with the software in the form of viruses and bugs that you'd be thrilled to NOT have an electronic gadget that was based on Microsoft's Windows program?
Really. I don't get it. Either one.
