What's really needed in Iraq, Afghanistan and the whole world

Plato had it right, of course:  "Ignorance, the root and the stem of every evil."

Whether the topic is Iraq or Iran or Afghanistan or Christine O'Donnell or Sarah Palin or the Tea Party or the Democrats or Republicans or whatever or whomever, what we need is awareness and information.  And I'm not talking Western indoctrination or influence.  I'm talking broad, intelligent, non-biased information and hard data.

Instead, we get this, today:

Iran has imposed new restrictions on 12 university social sciences deemed to be based on Western schools of thought and therefore incompatible with Islamic teachings, state radio reported Sunday.
The list includes law, philosophy, management, psychology, political science and the two subjects that appear to cause the most concern among Iran's conservative leadership — women's studies and human rights.
So this is what our American soldiers have died for and what our money is paying for--ignorance in Iran.  Terrific.

Naming no names

But Sarah Palin, Christine O'Donnell and Rand Paul certainly come to mind, at least, for starters.

Quote of the day--man, I love these people

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Senator John McCain's daughter said on Sunday that Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell of Delaware, a Tea Party favorite, is "seen as a nut job."

Side note:  So, technically, officially, are all relatives of politicians, politicians themselves or political scholars?  I'm thinking the Cheneys first, and now the McCains.  Of course, the Kennedys may have begun the whole mess, eh?  But at least they studied history and government.

A witch and a "weekend nazi"--I love these people

One candidate--Christine O'Donnell--a Tea Party member, has to deny she's a witch while another candidate--Richard Iott, a Republican--can't deny that, on the weekends, he dresses up as a nazi, nearly unbelievable as that is.

Finally, to make things even better (worse?), I see in the Star this morning that Donald Trump is considering a Republican run for the presidency in 2012.

How do you not love these people?

If you didn't see it last evening, go to hulu.com and see the mock ad on/for Christine O'Donnell, denying she's a witch.  It's a hoot.  (This, above, is not from last evening's show).
