Good news out of Iraq
From online news today: Alleged Al Qaeda Members Sentenced To Death
BAGHDAD -- An Iraqi court on Thursday sentenced 15 alleged al-Qaida members to death for their role in the 2006 wedding party massacre of 70 people, considered one of the most horrific attacks carried out by Sunni-led militants during the insurgency.
Thank goodness. Maybe more countries can see Al Qaeda is no good way to go.

This is not good news
From NPR last evening:
Sure, they talk big. They say they want us out. Then, when it comes down to "crunch time", they bail.
They want the security we provide, sure.
But surely they want our money, too.
Boy, are we suckers.

This is why we shouldn't have attacked Irag, Former President Bush
From the news earlier today:
Blasts in Baghdad kill at least 50
Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) -- At least 50 people were killed and 180 wounded in a wave of blasts across Baghdad on Tuesday, police said.
There were 14 explosions. Ten were car bombs, three were roadside bombs, and another was what's called a sticky bomb: a device that's placed on an object, many times a vehicle.
So here's my question: What kind of a sick society is it that has lots of people running around blowing up other fellow citizens of your own neighborhood/city/country, for some bizarre, imagined "good"?
And then, if it's that sick, how do you fix it?
I'll be darned if I know but that's what we've gotten ourselves into.

$40M fuel theft from Army prompts global manhunt

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia - A former U.S. Army contractor convicted of stealing $40 million worth of fuel from a military base in Iraq is helping authorities search the globe for other suspects in the case.
The thefts occurred in 2007 and 2008 from Camp Liberty in Baghdad.
Former Army contractor Lee Dubois has pleaded guilty and faces up to 10 years in prison. A sentencing hearing scheduled Thursday in Virginia was postponed.
A second suspect was arrested January in Guam and awaits indictment. Court records indicate other suspects have scattered around the world and that Dubois has been cooperating with investigators to locate them.
The thieves used fraudulent paperwork to withdraw tens of thousands of gallons (liters) per day from the base.
