New "Mind Museum" in Philippines

After getting and opening our own cool new building in downtown Kansas City, the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, I was drawn today to an article in Fast Company magazine about a new "Mind Museum" that opens this December. Take a look:
Another view:
It's really an incredible concept, when you think about it--a museum on and for and about the mind. Humankind's tendency has always been to have museums on and about tangible things like trains or natural history. Here is a museum about the mind and how it works and what it can do. It seems the types of displays it could have would be virtually, if not actually, unlimited. They would be only limited by their own imaginations. And their minds. It makes for fascinating stuff, architecturally as well as for and on its subject. Link: http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/161/philippine-mind-museum

Al Jazeera: the next, most important media source?

If you read any international news sources--and most Americans don't--it might easily be argued that the new, next, best international news source may well be Al Jazeera, passing up the BBC and other European news sources. Look at the list of their current "opinion" columns and sources: 'Attack Iran' and AIPAC's infamous chutzpah, MJ Rosenberg, Obama and Asia's two futures, Yuriko Koike; Leveraging hip hop in US foreign policy, Hishaam Aidi; Apartheid and the occupation of Palestine, John Dugard; The latest crackdown threat to hit 'Occupy', Danny Schechter; Conservatism blew up the economy, Cliff Schecter; The Commonwealth's missed opportunity, Malcolm Fraser; Goldstone walks alone on a bridge to nowhere, Richard Falk, America's other 87 deficits, Stephen S Roach; A gravity test for the euro, Kenneth Rogoff; Arms sales to Bahrain under the scanner, Joel Beinin, Internet freedom initiative mere lip service?, Jillian C. York; The all-American occupation; Steve Fraser; Kenya's blundering mission in Somalia , Tendai Marima. Food for thought. Want to know what's going on in the world? Al Jazeera seems to be another place to look.

Is World War III being waged right now?

You know how they say people are usually always fighting the "last war" and that that's also why they usually lose? News out this morning tells of a "State actor seen behind 'enormous' wave of cyber attacks" BOSTON (Reuters) - Security experts have discovered the biggest series of cyber attacks to date, involving the infiltration of the networks of 72 organizations including the United Nations, governments and companies around the world. Security company McAfee, which uncovered the intrusions, said it believed there was one "state actor" behind the attacks but declined to name it, though one security expert who has been briefed on the hacking said the evidence points to China. The long list of victims in the five-year campaign include the governments of the United States, Taiwan, India, South Korea, Vietnam and Canada; the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN); the International Olympic Committee (IOC); the World Anti-Doping Agency; and an array of companies, from defense contractors to high-tech enterprises. The thing is, if we are in the midst of WWIII, we won't know until after someone's conquered. Sobering thought, no? Quote of the day--warm enough for you?

If Russia's current heatwave being the worst in 1000 years and doubling the daily death rate in Moscow wasn't enough, check out this sweaty stat: According to Wunder Blog (via Mongabay), already this summer 17 nations have set or matched their all-time heat records. Not to mention an all-time hottest temperature for Pakistan, and possibly all of Asia. --From the Treehugger blog. At what point do we collectively believe in man-made climate change? Then, at what point do we all start doing something about it? Just asking. Link to original post: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/08/17-nations-beat-all-time-heat-records-this-year.php
