The Federal Reserve's KC Annual Symposium is WHERE?
Why is the Federal Reserve's "Kansas City annual symposium" in Jackson Hole, Wyoming if we're paying for it all?
Why the hell isn't this in Kansas City, Missouri, where it belongs? They could have stayed at our finest hotels and gone to our finest restaurants and STILL saved a LOAD of money.
Granted, it's a figurative drop in the bucket, moneywise, to the overall national budget but hey, you start saving money SOMEWHERE. This seems like a terrific place to start. And cut.

Further proof: There will be no streetcars, no convention hotel
The Star evaluates Kansas City's past, present and, really, future, given our spending and lack of leadership and vision. It's a good article, really, a great interpretation:
KC is paying a big price for falling behind
It's a good, smart, brief read:
"Kansas City’s overall outstanding government debt of $2.32 billion works out to $5,028 owed by every resident. That’s the second highest load when stacked up against 10 other peer cities (see chart on link, below).
Could the Mayor's streetcar line and the convention hotel happen?
Sure, I guess. It could. Possibly.
Is it likely?
Given the lack or weakness of leadership locally (and even nationally), I wouldn't put money on it.

We can afford a convention hotel??
From the looks of this article just emailed to me, the city is going ahead with a convention hotel:
Developers, hotel chains bid for Kansas City convention center hotel

Developers, hotel chains bid for Kansas City convention center hotel
An undisclosed number of developers and hotel chains submitted bids Monday, hoping to build a convention center hotel in downtown Kansas City.
Assistant City Manager Bob Langenkamp declined to say how many developers or hotel operators submitted proposals. He said the city’s hotel consultant group, C.H. Johnson of Chicago, will review proposals and narrow them down to a short list by mid-November. By early December, Langenkamp said members of the city’s Convention Hotel Steering Committee will begin interviewing selected bidders. The city’s RFP timetable calls for a developer and hotel group to sign letters of intent by February.
It is still unclear how any convention hotel will be financed.
Yeah, no kidding.
In the first place, I thought the city was, if not broke, then running on "low", money-wise, what with having financed the Power & Light project.
Second, I thought we'd been downgraded, too, on the markets, as for our bonds and so on, because of our status.
Come heck or high water, it looks as though we's gonna' gets us a convention hotel, folks.
