Quote of the day--on Republican Senate Candidate Linda McMahon
Imagine if someone ran for Senate on the strength of their experience as CEO of a billion-dollar company. Now imagine if, as an aside, their employees kept ending up dead. They would routinely die of heart attacks, drug overdoses, suicides, and strokes before the age of 50. Imagine if their company had a "death clause" in their contracts that prevented employees and their families from suing the company. Imagine if they had gag orders to prevent family members from speaking out against what could be fairly called the most dangerous working conditions in the United States. Imagine if this candidate was so sociopathic, that they would look at this billion-dollar business built on broken bodies and death as a source of pride and even as a motivator for why they deserve the power of public office. And lastly, imagine the media happily joining in with the sociopathology and giving them a free pass. Welcome to the race for Senator of Connecticut, where Republican Linda McMahon is self-funding her campaign on the bodies of the dead wrestlers who have built the billion-dollar empire that is World Wrestling Entertainment. --David Zirin, author, The Huffington Post

Multi-millionaire Republican Senate candidate wants to "review" minimum wage
From The Huffinton Post today: Linda McMahon: 'We Ought To Review' The Minimum Wage
Linda McMahon, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Connecticut, suggested Thursday that the U.S. ought to take a second look at the federal minimum wage.
"The minimum wage now in our country, I think we've set that, so there are a lot of people have benefited from it in our country, but I think we ought to review how much it ought to be, and whether or not we ought to have increases in the minimum wage," McMahon said at a press conference.
After the event, "McMahon admitted she didn't know what the current minimum wage is or if any of her employees at World Wrestling Entertainment are paid it," CTNewsJunkie.com reported. McMahon was CEO of the WWE before launching her Senate campaign. What chutzpah.
$46 million per year Republican Senate candidate a) wants to "review" the minimum wage, b) didn't even know if any of her employees were on minimum wage and c) didn't know what current minimum wage is. Could this very rich and very selfish woman be any more out of touch? And folks, she did say it in public. She said it in public at her own press conference. This one could make me very angry. News flash, Ms. McMahon: The minimum wage right now, as of 2009, is $7.25 per hour. YOU try living on it.

Todd Tiahrt and the Republicans: having it both ways
So Todd Tiahrt and his band of Republicans are supposed to be for "small government" and nearly no government at all, to hear them say it. Heck, the way they talk, you'd think they were all "slash the government" Libertarians.
But right now, ol' Todd is running like a banshee for office, so what does he come up with? Check it out:
Todd Tiahrt, who is running for U.S. Senate in Kansas, said he will press for a federal law to require cell phone companies to help find missing persons...
The issue involving cell phone companies arose in the case of the late Kelsey Smith. She was abducted and killed in 2007...
The proposal would require cell phone companies to release records to investigators working on missing persons cases.
So, sure, the Republicans are for "small government."
Unless they're running for office. Or trying to help their big, corporate friends... Or...
Apparently, Republican George W. Bush's intrusive and far-reaching "Patritot Act" just isn't enough for these people.
