Why Hasn't SNL Lampooned Joel Osteen?

Seriously, why hasn't SNL done a skit on this guy?

They need to do a series--one a week. Talk about a font of material. This guy is literally unbelievable.

Now, the joke of the day

''During a speech in Ohio, Joe Biden criticized Republicans for not understanding the middle class. In response, Mitt Romney was like, 'That's ridiculous. Some of my best friends' gardeners are middle class.'' —Jimmy Fallon from his show "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon"

I'm so old...

...I know who the guy is telling the joke. Further, I'm old enough to have watched him tell this, live, years ago.

Chills

If you like Broadway, Broadway plays, Broadway music, Broadway musicals, New York or any combination thereof and haven't seen this, don't miss it. Don't miss "Smash" tonight. When Bernadette Peters started singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses", I broke out in chills, quite unexpectedly. Zounds. 9pm. Be there. Last week's episode, for the first time, disappointed me a bit but that ws the first time and it was only one scene. Anyway, you might enjoy it. Note: You can go online, too, and see the first few episodes, in their entirety: http://www.nbc.com/smash/

Where are the probing journalists?

During George W. Bush's Presidency, we got the big-government, intrusive, a lot of us say unconstitutional "Patriot Act." Now we're getting the "National Defense Authorization Act" and an Executive Order from this President, according to the link below--which looks as though it's straight from the White House website, I might add--saying the government reserves the right to confiscate anything we own... So I ask you, where are the probing journalists from the extremely important "Fourth Estate" to ask the questions and find out a) what's going on?, b) why?, c) who's doing it? and d) how do we stop them? The big, major networks? Fugghedaboudit. We know they won't do it. They're too busy entertaining us. PBS' "Frontline" does some excellent expose's at times, telling us what the government or the wealthy or corporations did or are doing to us and/or in the country. And The New York Times does some good articles at times but first, look how they buckled for that Iraq War of George W. Bush's and second, I just haven't seen the kind of big, multiple-day story like this, that such a story should and would entail. They could do it but it doesn't seem like something they've done for a good while. There are blogs and websites online that do some good reporting like Politifact and Truthdig and Truthout, etc., but these are considered "Left Wing" and would be utterly discounted by the Right Wing, Republicans and too many in America. Besides, too many Americans are too busy just trying to cover the rent or the house payment and food on the table so they don't get to a lot of those things. We need some good organizations to perform this function/these functions of reporting on our government and institutions so we know what's happening and we can keep the wrong things from happening, in advance. A lot of people seem rather rightly concerned about the Constitution, the state of the nation, our rights and our collective and individual futures. Without someone reporting on these, we can't and won't know what's going on or by whom or why. I rarely recommend TV programs but...

...in this case, as I did earlier here on the blog, I have to say, I absolutely recommend you check out "Smash" on Monday evenings. It is well-written, wonderfully casted and shot in New York. It is one great, tight story and playing out fantastically. It's not "end of the world" crap and it's not yet one more non-reality, "reality show." It's old-fashioned. It's a great story, true to life, well-told. I think you would likely enjoy it. I know I am.

It's just a telephone

And this isn't even the worst of the ads. The really crazy ones would have you believe your phone is, somehow, a nuclear reactor or will somehow save the world or some such. And all we have to do is buy one.

Kansas City, barbecue and Debbie Gold in "Taste of the NFL"

There is an article right now in Forbes Magazine on "Super Bowl's 'Taste Of the NFL' - The Best Food Event You Never Heard Of" and apparently, the city's own Debbie Gold of the American Restaurant represented our fair city. This is, as you might guess, an annual event and charity fund raiser--for food banks across the country--that takes place before the big day, in the host city, and has for the last 21 years. A description: "every one of the NFL’s 32 teams picks a chef, restaurant and dish they think represents their hometown taste, and these are all assembled under one roof. Each chef gets a stand and serves up a small plate, accompanied by a carefully chosen wine paring (you can go back as many times as you want). Also, each team sends an ambassador, a current or former player, to man the booth, signing autographs, and in many cases, talking food with the guests." It was also covered on NBC's "Today" show, for that matter. (see links below) According to the article: "The Kansas City Chiefs honored their legendary hometown BBQ heritage with Cider Braised Pork Shoulder with Caramelized Onions." Ms. Gold said of it "This is one of the years best events and I am proud to be a (sic) part of it!" So no, of course our team wasn't in the Super Bowl--as if--but at least we were represented here--and very well, I'm sure--by Debbie Gold, the American Restaurant and some great Kansas City barbecue. Many thanks to Ms. Gold, the Chiefs and the American Restaurant for representing us so very well, I'm sure. Quote of the day

"Politics and prostitution have to be the only jobs where inexperience is considered a virtue. In what other profession would you brag about not knowing stuff? 'I'm not one of those fancy Harvard heart surgeons. I'm just an unlicensed plumber with a dream and I'd like to cut your chest open.' The crowd cheers." —Tina Fey, writing in her book, Bossypants

And happy birthday today to Ms. Fey who turns 41.

"Her Tackiness" continues in her same vein

Sarah Palin, ever the person to prove how low class she is, goes off again:

Sarah Palin makes fun of Katie Couric’s post-CBS plans

Right.

Make fun of Katie Couric.

If she were to just go by what Katie makes per year she wouldn't have touched this one.  Reportedly, Ms. "In Poor Taste" Palin has made, to date, from her book deals and speaking engagements, I understand, somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 to 20 million dollars.

Heads up, Ms. W. Trash, Katie makes 15 million a year.  And she's done that for the last 5 years.  And in case you never saw her, Ms. P., before that she was on a news show, too, and for that she put away 7 million a year.

But enough about money.

The circle of people Ms. Couric run with have EDGOOKASHUNS and are world travelers and, I'm imagining, the heads of multi-national organizations and non-profits and, hey, these are people who read magazines and books and they can even name them.

Unlike you, Ms. Palin.

So please, do yourself a favor--go climb back under the rock from which you came.

Or at least have the good sense to be quiet.

Bill Maher on Letterman last night--thank goodness for YouTube

I was sorry I missed this but there it is, thanks to the ever-present, unblinking YouTube.  What a great mix, too, Bill and Dave.  Thanks and a hat tip to The Immoral Minority Blog for bringing it to my attention.

The Tea Party:  "Corporate America's useful idiots."  So true.  If it only lead to laughter and not frustration and ultimately being maddening.
