Let's Call It What It Is: A Constitutional Crisis

So we had an election. We voted. We all voted. We know.

And now, the man we voted out isn't recognizing and won't recognize our vote, that vote, that election, our election.

Post image

He's denying the vote, the votes, he's denying us all. He's denying our Democracy.

What is that if not a Constitutional crisis?

We've all seen the headlines.

Donald Trump in denial over election defeat

And unfortunately, too many in that, his political party are going along with this absurdity, this insult to us all.

McConnell declines in floor speech to congratulate Biden

And of course, Fox is aiding and abetting this obscenity, this ugliness, even this stupidity.

The network is broadcasting the Trump campaign’s debunked conspiracy theories and unproven allegations to millions each night.

As it goes on, Trump has done more and more bizarre things.

Unfortunately, very unfortunately, if not also predictably, our own Senator Blunt even joined in on Trump's absurd claims. Because, you know, you HAVE to put your political party before the country, before the nation and before the people and even before what's right.  Right??

Nine days after having our election and all of us voting, there are some good indications and movements on this insanity. There are some beacons of hope.

Rep. Will Hurd of Texas tweeted that Trump's comments are "not only dangerous & wrong, it undermines the very foundation this nation was built upon."

Fortunately for the state of Georgia and all of us, really, there is this guy and anyone and everyone like him, standing up and doing what's right.

This is only one city but it's an excellent example of just what this President and his supporters have to show for their denying our election, votes and the results.

And I love this next one.

Even Fox, EVEN FOX, folks! is doing the right thing on this, at least in this one instance, anyway.

Also from Fox, this broke yesterday, thankfully.

U.S. Sen. James Lankford said there was “nothing wrong” with the idea of Biden receiving intelligence briefings

And it's not just this one Senator, either, that's calling for Biden to get intelligence briefings though Senator Lankford did, later, back off this original stand I read.

"Nothing wrong" with Biden receiving intelligence briefings. Nothing wrong and everything right about it.

Then, not just from Fox but from TUCKER CARLSON HIMSELF, two days ago, folks.

"At this stage, the fraud that we can confirm does not seem to be enough to alter the election result. We should be honest and tell you that..." he said, on his Fox News show "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

That alone is pretty incredible. That was followed by this. Even Karl Rove can read this writing on the wall.

Ohio's Mike Dewine spoke up yesterday, thank goodness, as all Republicans should.

Today, this broke. It does look as though the tide is finally, finally turning on this President's denial of our election and votes, thank goodness. It shouldn't have been necessary.

It's as I said before here, it's obvious why Trump wants, no, needs to deny our votes and election, too. According to the New York Times, he owes nearly, if not completely 1 billion dollars to who knows who out there in the world, New York State, at least, is going after him for his taxes in two different cases and then there's this.

And the above doesn't even address any and all possible investigations of wrongdoing and/or illegality/illegalites he may have committed while President.

It's as I said in Donald Trump's first year in office, he's in WAY over his head. He had no idea what he was getting into but now he's there and he doesn't want to deal with any of it, let alone all.

Then the Washington Post poses this unsurprising possibility.

Then there's this ugly trend, overall, from and by his political party.

Here's yet more of the enabling cowards that is the Republican Party.

This is one of the things that is most concerning about this entire situation, too, with Trump challenging, denying our votes and election.

Meanwhile, we have still no leadership whatever, of course, from this excuse for a President out of his White House or administration since he's paying far more attention to covering his hide and tracks.

US Coronavirus cases hit daily high, more than 140,000

Look at this fact that just broke today.

The most single-day COVID-19 deaths since May AND IT'S NOT EVEN WINTER YET.

So with all this, then, where are we? Where does this leave us? Besides the fact that this orange excuse for a President is shaping us into his own banana republic, where does this leave us now? And then, what do we do?

And here is where I say we have to stand up and speak up and speak out, all we can, especially to our Republican Party officeholders and tell them what we need, what we want. We need to tell them what, exactly, needs to happen next and that is, that this President and all in his political party must, at long last, recognize our vote, our votes, our election, our Democracy and demand he, Donald Trump, concede this election. We must demand it.

So with that, I post here, below, a link to go to so you can email and phone, both, preferably, your, our government representatives, to tell them this must happen and it needs to take place sooner, rather than later.  Today is not too soon.  Indeed, it is late in this process. It is very late.  Please contact your representatives. Maybe especially Missouri's own Senators Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley. Thank you in advance.

Two more links.  Let's be clear.

Then, once Trump is gone, a way forward?? Dare I say? Or even think? Hope?

Now We Have to Discuss a President Not Recognizing Our Election, Our Vote, Our Votes?

We are having to have conversations about a President who might require being escorted or even dragged out of the White House after our election.

Meanwhile, here's your vote fraud, Mr. President. From your own, our own FBI Director.

And yes, there are facts behind it.

Congratulations, Republicans!
Thanks, Mr. President.

Just exactly how completely low are we going to let this cheat, this liar, this conman drag our nation down? Check out this current headline.

First They Gerrymandered, Then Voter ID Laws and Now This

First, there was gerrymandering--sculpting out voting districts from your state that benefits your own political party.

Both parties did it, sure, but then the Republicans decided it was one helluva great idea so they REALLY went with it. They carved up their constituents voting districts so it put the 8 ball in their corner pocket, time and again, getting them elected.

This is how gerrymandering works.

Image result for gerrymandering
And here's an example:

Image result for gerrymandering

Then? Next?

They decided that wasn't enough, they scare the people and tell them there were people out there--"fereners", illegals, illegal immigrants and others who were trying and lying to vote, left and right.

And the best way to stop it? The best way to stop these people from voting illegally?

Why, we got yer voter ID laws right here, folks, right here in River City.

Forget that all hard data on it, time and again, state to state, across the nation, down through time shows there is extremely little to no vote fraud going on. Forget that, ignore that. It's surely "out there." They're out there, just waiting to vote illegally. Sure they are.

Myth of Voter Fraud

 Brennan Center for Justice

So enact voter ID laws they did and they have and they still are. Everything they can do to disenfranchise people who aren't likely to vote for Republican.

And who are those people?  Glad you asked. They are
  • the elderly (unless they're already-wealthy)
  • the poor
  • minorities
  • the physically-challenged
At minimum.

And when you add those four groups together, that can be a great deal of people, a great deal of fellow Americans, denied the right to vote.

But again, they've done it and they're doing it, and all across states and the nation.

Now? Next? That's not enough so now what are they doing?

So get this.

They lost. In at least 3 states, North Carolina, Michigan and Wisconsin Republicans lost.

They had all that gerrymandering and voter ID laws going for them, taking away votes from fellow Americans, tax-paying citizens but they still lost.

So what do they do?

At the last minute, before they're summarily thrown out of office---by the electorate, by the voters--they rush to put in place new laws that strip power from the incoming--Democratic--office holders.

Understand, folks. These people who do this--and yes, they're all in the Republican Party, factually--are not out there for the people first. They're not out there for their constituents first. They're not out there for their District or state or the nation first. No, sir and ma'am, they absolutely are not.

They are out there for themselves and for their political party, above all. They are "party firsters", for sure.

Worse than that, far worse, they are out there for the political party first AND last.

Vote wisely, folks.

Vote carefully.

Republicans in Jefferson City, At It Again

Image: Think Progress
Image: Think Progress

Yessir, Republican legislators in Jefferson City are at it again. They're writing and trying to pass very self-serving legislation, all in the guise of "protecting our vote." Here it is.

Missouri voter photo ID measures pass
House committee

Never mind that it's been proven, time and again, that there really is no significant problem with vote fraud of any kind.

How Voter ID Laws Are Being Used

to Disenfranchise

Never mind that the costs of voter ID far exceeds any value obtained in keeping voting rolls any more clean and accurate than they already are.

How Republicans Rig the Game

This is yet more un-American, Right Wing, Republican vote suppression and disenfranchisement of Americans. It helps them get and keep the poor, blacks, Hispanics, the elderly and physically-challenged, at minimum---read: possible Democratic Party voters---from voting.

It's not just wrong but deeply wrong and we need to fight this, we need to end it in America. They've been pushing these "voter ID" laws and gerrymandering for far too long. It all needs to end and we need to get started on it. We can and should tolerate this no longer.

Lessons and Messages from Last Night's Academy Awards, Part II

“We know that the Voting Rights Act that they fought for 50 years ago is being compromised right now in this country,” John Legend said.   http://politi.co/1BamNyq

And it's the Republicans and their Republican political party that are doing it, bringing back very Jim Crow like laws, all under the guise of "voter ID laws."

A Senate Republican Speaks Truth to Their Power

At last, long overdue, but we get some truth and honesty from someone inside this political party, calling their "Voter ID laws" what they really are and that is voter suppression.

Most assuredly un-American.  It's shameful. We need to rise up, speak out against this and overturn these efforts and soon as possible.

Republicans: Against progress, even against America

Republicans and the entire Republican Party have been impeding progress for the nation and for Americans for so long, we're nearly getting immune to it.

But we can't be. We can't let these injustices stand. We need the nation to move forward and on so many different levels, not least of which is regarding the economy. Here's just two current examples, from yesterday  in The New York Times:

New GOP Bid to Limit Voting in Swing States

Already, nine states, under Republican control, have passed measures making it harder to vote since the beginning of 2013.

And this is one of the worst cases of the Republicans' handiwork. Getting fewer and fewer Americans to vote. How un-American can they be or get?

Then there's this one:

Growers say inaction on immigration legislation is hurting productivity, and a powerful group that represents them says its members may withhold campaign contributions.

And this one is a real beaut since, in the last few elections, more and more Hispanics have been voting for the Democrats because, well, they get support from them. The Republicans say they're trying to be inclusive for all kinds of people--Hispanics included--yet they've famously and even notoriously and very publicly been fighting anything remotely close to creating a path to citizenship for Hispanics, Mexicans and others.

Missouri Caucuses hit the news: and not in a good way

Clear to The New York Times today on yesterdays cluster puck that was the caucuses: Disruption Closes a Missouri Caucus Before Vote "ST. PETERS, Mo. – Voters here in St. Charles County did not get a say on Saturday in who will be the next Republican presidential nominee after a disorderly caucus on Saturday caused organizers to adjourn before delegates were selected. The unrest began as the caucus at Francis Howell North High School was called to order more than a hour late, then delayed again when a member of the crowd refused to put away a video camera, as required by the rules outlined by the local Republican Party." A video camera? Not allowed by the Republican Party? Um, why? What is there to hide? I'd love that answered. Here's the travesty of it, it seems: "St. Charles was supposed to select the most delegates of any single caucus in the state, and turnout was much higher than expected." If you read the article, it seems the Ron Paul people were being shut out. If that's not what happened or not what the author intended as a take-away from the article, that's certainly what I got. That Republican Party surely is a mess, at least locally, as here, if not statewide as well as on the national level. Ain't 'dat just a dang shame? First Texas---next, Kansas and Missouri?

Let's hope so. It seems the US Department of Justice ruled Texas' Voter ID laws discriminatory and so, has thrown them out. Good for them. That's a good start. Now, hopefully, as said above, maybe it can come this way and disavow Kansas' and Missouri's useless, discriminatory, un-American voter ID laws since they're only really created to get fewer Americans voting. NPR asks a great question

The question they ask is: Should Elections Be Held On Weekends? and the answer is--forgive me-- HECK YES! I've written about this before: http://moravings.blogspot.com/2011/04/kansas-gop-keeping-people-away-from.html. Kansas, No. 1 of "States Trying Really Hard to Keep Poor, Black, and Students from Voting"

Yes, you read correctly. Kansas is voted number one as the state trying hardest to keep people from voting. Next door neighbor Missouri? Number 5. Whatever happened to the US that wanted its citizens to vote? Who have we become? Jeff City Statehouse is broken: 3 current examples

The things coming out of Jefferson City at the statehouse are pitiful.  This is not government representing us.  This is government representing corporations, the wealthy and themselves.  Herewith, 3 current, maddening examples, as promised:

1)  The legislators, in their wisdom (read:  sucking up to corporations) came up with legislation limiting how much we, as citizens of the state, can sue corporate hog farms, for instance, in order to get them to literally clean up their collective acts.  If a corporate hog farm moves into your area, fouls the air for all and never cleans it up, even after you've sued, you and I will be stuck with that because the legislators did the corporation's bidding and have declared that a "nuisance" lawsuit.  Since it's a nuisance to them, they've decided it will be a nuisance for everyone in the state.

As one Janelle Ramsburg of Prairie Village (KS) so aptly put it today in the Star's Letters to the Editor:  "Do I understand the intent of the Missouri legislators correctly?  Corporations should have the right to come into a community and ruin it for inhabitants.  The only rights the inhabitants are to be allowed is to sell their property and move away, assuming they can find a buyer?"

Yes, Ms. Ramsburg, you are absolutely correct on this.  Thank goodness you don't live in Missouri.  However, that said, you also have a Republican legislature in Kansas, too, so you might want to keep an eye on them;

2)  As I wrote earlier, the legislators re-wrote the vote we had last Fall by stripping Prop B of its protections for animals from "puppy mills".  Instead of honoring our votes, the legislators are going with their corporate buddies, instead, and going for more protections for these animal abusers, to boot, rather than leaving the protections in.  Additionally, Governor Nixon apparently hasn't got the courage--political or otherwise--to stick with what we voters already spoke on, either, and stand up to the businesses that want their protections, and not the pets.

From The Star today:

Nixon cited technical — rather than substantive — problems as the reason for the veto and indicated he was open to approving the legal protections for factory farms if those problems are corrected.

Next time, we need a governor who can and will stand up to corporations, so he and our government protect us, the "little guy", instead of always siding with big, corporate interests and the "fat cats", the way our government used to.

3)  Finally, there is the obscene, ugly and unnecessary Voter ID bill the Rethugs are pushing through so everyone has to show a picture ID of some kind when they vote.

Forget that voter fraud is nearly non-existent in the state.

Keep in mind, instead, that this is far more likely to disenfranchise the elderly, the poor, minorities and the disabled from border to border since all those groups are far more likely to vote Democratic.

So, kudos, Republicans--you and your corporate buddies certainly, clearly know how to take care of yourselves but in the meantime, you all--the wealthy, the corporations and the Republicans--are the only people getting what you want or need.

The rest of us can just suck on now-spoiled Easter eggs.

Kansas GOP: Keeping people away from voting but rushing across the state

More of the Republican agenda this week, sadly, out of Kansas.

No surprise, they've passed an ugly and very strict anti-voting law that requires a driver's licence or photo ID to vote:

Never mind that voting fraud isn't even a problem in the state.  This is obviously one more way to keep the elderly, the infirm and minorities away from the ballot box, purely and simply.

Sure, they deny it and will until a very hot place freezes over but this is the effects it has--to keep people FROM voting, instead of encouraging it.  It's the same reason we vote on Tuesdays and not the weekends--keep people from voting.

It was written, too, by "Mr. Gestapo", Kris Kobach.  He's the one who, you'll remember, wrote the immigration law for Arizona that got him so much national publicity.

It's disgusting but no surprise, certainly.  Who knows what idea they'll come up with in years to come, to keep still more of us from voting.

The 2nd item off the Republican leader's playbook this week out of Kansas is that they've pushed the speed limits on highways up to 75 miles per hour, instead of just the 70 we have now:

Texas is pushing for 85 so I'm sure the Kansas legislators want to "keep up with the Joneses" best they can.

Forget that law enforcement has experience on this subject that shows more people are hurt and killed, the faster we go.

Forget that it uses more gas to go ever faster and we want to use less fossil fuel oil and energy and not more, both for energy independence AND the environment.  Forget all that.

It's "full speed ahead!" on those Kansas, Republican highways out there.

Common sense and logic be damned.

Just stay away from the voting booth.

The fraud that is Afghanistan and their President Hamid Karzai

Just out from The Christian Science Monitor: Ballot-stuffing witnessed amid troubled Afghanistan vote "As Afghans voted Saturday, a reporter in Wardak Province spoke to an election worker about how his team had set out to stuff ballot boxes. The widescale fraud in Wardak may speak to troubles in the broader Afghanistan vote." Years from now, folks, sadly, years from now, there will be reports citing how many millions of dollars, at least, Hamid Karzai took from the US and his people--his own country. But he'll be gone by then, living very peacefully and very nicely, immune from it all. Mark my word. It won't come out for years. Enjoy your Sunday.
