Missouri in the national news last evening

And not in a good way:

Gun-totin' property owner kills a guy trying to defend his cousin, who urinated on a gravel bar

Seems fair, right?

A "pit stop" on a float trip in Southern Missouri shouldn't be a problem, should it?

What could go wrong?

From The Daily Kos.  It was actually the urinater's cousin who was shot and killed. He was defending the urinater. True.

...Yesterday, a man who owns a piece of property along Missouri's Meramec River, was pissed off when a guy on a casual canoe trip pissed in the woods behind "his" gravel bar. He then threatened the urinater with a gun. When the urinater's cousin tried to get between him and the property owner, the property owner shot the cousin in the head and killed him.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch covered it first, like this:

Yeehaw.

Gotta' have them guns, huh?

At least this time the shooter isn't going to walk as they do in Florida, "Stand Your Ground" laws not being in Missouri, thankfully.

Bumper sticker I see each day

Each day I go to work, I see a white van parked outside in the parking lot with this bumper sticker prominently displayed on its rear window:

Rather than be upset or angry or even depressed, I'm always amused and laugh a bit inside.

I love that "pro-gun" and "pro-life" are side by side.

It amuses me greatly they don't get that.

And that last election must have really upset them, huh?

Breaking news: Yet another shooting

Breaking just now:

Police officers among 'multiple casualties' as gunman opens fire near Texas A&M

Updated at 2:40 p.m. ET: "Multiple" people, including an undetermined number of police officers, were shot when a gunman opened fire Monday near the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, police and university officials said.

The gunman was in custody, College Station police said.

Few details were immediately available. A College Station police spokeswoman told The Dallas Morning News that there were multiple injuries" at the scene, "including officers."

Campus officials issued an alert to faculty and students for an "active shooter" two blocks southeast of the university, which houses the library of former President George W. Bush.

I say/ask again, when will we ever learn?

America, don't tell me you give a damn about senseless shootings

Every Columbine and every Tuscon, Arizona and every Aurora, Colorado makes it that much easier to point out the ignorance of America's gun laws and the deaths from our far-too-many guns.

Does it change anything or will it?

Heck no, unfortunately. Americans will continue to do nothing or--worse--they will fight to keep our semi-automatic and automatic weapons.

We're just not that bright.

So please, don't pretend America gives a damn about the 12 people killed yesterday and the 59 shot and wounded or the crippling and near-killing of Representative Gabby Gifford and the six killed and 13 wounded then and there in Tuscon last year or the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007 that killed 32 people and wounded 17 others or, finally--at least here, now, today--the Columbine shooting, in which 13 people were killed and 21 were injured.

America, Americans, don't pretend you give a damn--not one bit--about the people who were killed this week in Aurora, Colorado. You feign concern and/or sympathy like someone who posts "I'm so sorry" on Facebook.

It's a an empty gesture.

A very empty gesture.

If you gave a damn, you'd make sure this madness would at least decrease greatly, if not end as completely as possible.

Instead, you do nothing.

As it is, there will be another Columbine, another Tuscon, yet another Virginia Tech, one more Aurora, Colorado.

And the reactions and results will be just the same.

The National Rifle Association thanks you.

Update on gunman at the Pentagon

Reportedly (and with documentation, thank you), the "Pentagon shooter" yesterday was apparently a Right-wing, anti-government terrorist.

First, let me just say, this isn't my claim so don't attack me.

Second, I think it's important to point out that he was clearly anti-government if, again, the person who shot the security guards and then died is the same guy who had the blog with the same name. That guy railed against the government.

Third, I don't think calling him a terrorist is a big stretch since he did, in fact, shoot the guards.

The only thing left open to question, then, is the "Right-wing" accusation and that seems well documented here.

If this is true--and it seems as though it is--then "Right-wing gun nut" seems justified.

This should make Fox "News", with all their absurd, irresponsible reporting, vitriole and hyperbole quite proud. They're getting more and more results for their work at pumping people up and dividing the American people.

Question/proposal/challenge for Fox "News": No chance you guys will quit all that stupid ugliness and just truly report unbiased news, is there?

Nah, I thought not.

Yet more gun violence

Okay, Dr. George Tiller was gunned down, shot and killed by another right wing, gun-toting nutcase yesterday as you no doubt have heard by now.

Irony?

The gunlover shot him down in Dr. Tiller's church.

Wow.

What a nutjob that one must have been.

So what just came across my computer on internet news just now? This title:

"Shooting leaves 1 soldier dead, 1 hurt at Arkansas center"

Some gun-nut didn't like something else and so, went on a shoot, in Arkansas.

Insane.

Insanity.

I'll keep asking:

At what point are we going to somehow either thoroughly educate people on the need to curb gun violence or just out and out reduce the number of guns we have in this gun-toting, gun-loving, violence-ridden United States?

We need a solution, people.

Guns really do kill people.
