What Capital Punishment Really Is

The father of one of the Boston bombing victims has it right.

"The punishment of the death penalty is nothing more than revenge."

Of course it is revenge. If someone killed my wife or daughter, I would kill them. I would try to make it hurt. If I couldn't do it myself, I would spend every penny I have to have them killed. I'd pay extra to make it hurt. But, as a society, we have outsourced what used to be revenge killings and blood feuds to the state. In the case of Bobby Greenlease, in the 50's, it only took 100 days to execute justice. Now, the killers of Ann Harrison took over 24 years for justice to be served and one of them is still alive. No wonder the parent of the cute little boy who got killed in the drive by are dummying up. They don't trust the state to accomplish what the majority of Missourians see as justice.
