Donald Trump’s Legacy of Lies

To assess the legacy of Donald Trump’s presidency, start by quantifying it. Since last February, more than a quarter of a million Americans have died from COVID-19—a fifth of the world’s deaths from the disease, the highest number of any country. In the three years before the pandemic, 2.3 million Americans lost their health insurance, accounting for up to 10,000 “excess deaths”; millions more lost coverage during the pandemic. The United States’ score on the human-rights organization Freedom House’s annual index dropped from 90 out of 100 under President Barack Obama to 86 under Trump, below that of Greece and Mauritius. Trump withdrew the U.S. from 13 international organizations, agreements, and treaties. The number of refugees admitted into the country annually fell from 85,000 to 12,000. About 400 miles of barrier were built along the southern border. The whereabouts of the parents of 666 children seized at the border by U.S. officials remain unknown.

Trump reversed 80 environmental rules and regulations. He appointed more than 220 judges to the federal bench, including three to the Supreme Court—24 percent female, 4 percent Black, and 100 percent conservative, with more rated “not qualified” by the American Bar Association than under any other president in the past half century. The national debt increased by $7 trillion, or 37 percent. In Trump’s last year, the trade deficit was on track to exceed $600 billion, the largest gap since 2008. Trump signed just one major piece of legislation, the 2017 tax law, which, according to one study, for the first time brought the total tax rate of the wealthiest 400 Americans below that of every other income group. In Trump’s first year as president, he paid $750 in taxes. While he was in office, taxpayers and campaign donors handed over at least $8 million to his family business.

America under Trump became less free, less equal, more divided, more alone, deeper in debt, swampier, dirtier, meaner, sicker, and deader. It also became more delusional. No number from Trump’s years in power will be more lastingly destructive than his 25,000 false or misleading statements. Super-spread by social media and cable news, they contaminated the minds of tens of millions of people. Trump’s lies will linger for years, poisoning the atmosphere like radioactive dust.

Anyway, yesterday, none other than our own US Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, of course, shot down your one more try to sue to have our presidential election and all our votes ignored, denied and overturned.

In two days, Monday, the Electoral College is going to release its formal results to that same election and declare, again, one more time, that you lost.

Way to sandwich a weekend, huh?

Anyway, congratulations to you, America, anyway! So very happy for you and for us all! Let's do this!

And then let's get back to that pesky little issue of the pandemic.

Trump bizarrely claims to be the only one who likes cucumbers in self-centred Georgia senate rally speech

What took place--

Donald Trump claimed that he is the only one who likes cucumbers during a rambling speech in Georgia ahead of January’s runoff Senate elections.

In a bizarre 90-minute speech in Valdosta, Georgia, on Saturday evening, the US president attacked officials who certified the state for Joe Biden and falsely claimed that there had been widespread voter fraud.

However, during the speech, which was his first since losing 3 November’s election to Mr Biden, he also made a bizarre claim about cucumbers.

After segueing between various topics, Mr Trump told the crowd at the rally: “Blueberries, peppers, squash and cucumbers. Who does cucumbers around here?”

He added, as the crowd cheered: “Because I like cucumbers. I’m the only one. I like cucumbers.”

I say again, seriously, honestly, legitimately, has Donald Trump lost his mind? No President I've ever read about or followed had ramblings like this, like his, like these.

Republicans----this is your best? This is your best man? This is the best you've got?

It's a wonder we made it these last 4 years with and behind this guy.

T'was a month before Christmas,

People wore masks,

That covered their frown.

When a global pandemic

Changed everything.

They called it corona,

This President and His Supporters Have Become Dangerous

 I mean every word of that headline of this article. This President has gotten dangerous. Here's how.

‘Stop The Steal’ Rallies Now Feature ‘Lock Him Up!’ Chants Aimed At Georgia Guv Brian Kemp

This is outrageous. Some of the article:

The pro-Trump attorney Lin Wood proclaimed near the end of a “Stop The Steal” rally in Georgia Wednesday that he had seen the “real” results of the 2020 election.

“He won over 410 electoral votes,” Wood said, referring to President Donald Trump. “He damn near won every state including California!”

That about summed up the day’s proceedings. Wood and co-counsel Sidney Powell — formerly of the President’s campaign, now leading a bustling fundraising-based legal effort to somehow deliver Trump a second term — riled up the crowd with tempting promises that Trump would, indeed, remain President on Jan. 20.

The pair trotted out the same old nonsense they’ve been riding for weeks in light of Joe Biden’s electoral victory: The communists have infiltrated America’s election infrastructure! They’ve bought off Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State!

The effort has never been legally rigorous: Powell and Wood’s filings have included clumsy typos and embarrassing errors; a recent federal suit to overturn the results in Wisconsin, for example, sought video footage from the TCF Center… which is in Detroit, Michigan.

But even now, the movement appears to be growing more aggressive.

Wood and the recently pardoned former national security adviser Michael Flynn, for example, called on the President to declare martial law Tuesday over the supposedly stolen election. Powell has boosted calls for Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act.

On Wednesday, at least one person in attendance carried an actual pitchfork. Wood, rallying the crowd, seethed at outsiders.

“We’re not going to vote on your damn machines made in China,” he said at one point.

“Get out of our country, George Soros!” he yelled separately of the American citizen and Jewish bogeyman for the right.

The pair even turned on Republicans deemed insufficiently fervent in supporting Donald Trump’s inevitable second term. “Lock him up!” Wood said of Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R).

Forget, ignore this, the facts--

Georgia's GOP Secretary of State Says No Widespread Voter Fraud

Fortunately, going back to that first, original article I posted above, the following may well take place.

Both attorneys on stage agreed that voters should not participate in the upcoming runoff elections for U.S. Senate in Georgia — at least, not on communist-controlled voting machines. That dynamic threatens the Republicans’ chances for both Senate seats.

If they, Republicans in Georgia, don't vote---God love 'em---it's more likely the Democrats' candidates for the Georgia Senates seat would get put in, they'd win, of course.

Wouldn't that just be a dang shame?

What isn't reckless to the point of, again, dangerous and frightening could be to love about these irrational knuckleheads. If you go to Trump's Facebook page, there are all kinds of people on there, all excited and ginned up about seeing him get this election, in spite of his decisive loss across the states, across the  nation.

For now, we need to get this President to concede, first, and then have all his other fellow Republicans stop ginning up their followers.

These people all need to figuratively come down off the edge. They all need to calm down, get rational and accept this President Trump's defeat in our election. They need to stop referring to their guns and whatever other insanities they might threaten or dream up.

And their leader in all this, their President, needs to get them there.

Anyone Who Thinks Lisa Montgomery Should Be Executed Should Read This Article

 Lisa Montgomery is the woman who was found guilty of having killed another woman, supposed to be here friend, only to cut her open and take her unborn baby. Here's the story. Anyone who thinks she should be put to death now, executed, should read this. It took place, as some may know, in not far away Skidmore, Missouri.

So Now We’re Going to Kill Her

Here's just the core, just some of the story and this article. 

...Montgomery’s crime was certainly heinous. She had befriended a young pregnant woman, Bobbie Jo Stinnett, 23, after the two met at a dog show. After arranging a meeting—ostensibly to purchase a rat terrier puppy—Montgomery killed Stinnett, then gutted her open to kidnap her then eight-month old fetus. Montgomery cleaned the baby—remarkably, the child survived—then brought her home to her husband. She pretended it was her own baby; it is possible she did not understand that the baby was not hers...

...Lisa Montgomery had little if any chance in life. She was born in 1968, the child of two troubled alcoholics. She had brain damage, likely caused by exposure to alcohol when she was a developing fetus. Mental illness ran in her family. Her father had a daughter from a previous marriage; the two girls grew up together. As part of an excellent story on the Montgomery case, the Huffpost tracked down the older sibling, Diane Mattingly, who described the traumatic world in which young Lisa grew up. It was a world of unimaginable cruelty and horror.

Her mother, Judy Shaughnessy, beat her daughters with belts, cords, or hangers. On one occasion, to punish her children Lisa’s mother killed the family dog in front of them, smashing its head in with a shovel. Her father was often away from home for long periods time. Her mother would bring home other men; fights would erupt, and the violence spilled over to include the young girls. When Mattingly was about 8, one of the men whom her mother brought home began raping her, as Montgomery, then only 4, lie in bed beside her. Mattingly escaped when child protective services removed her from the home.

Lisa was not so fortunate. Her mother married another violent, erratic man, Jack Kleiner, who beat his wife and the children regularly; he would often make the daughters strip naked before whipping them. The sexual component of that punishment morphed into ever greater abuse as Kleiner began molesting then raping young Lisa. The abuse lasted for years. The parents also allowed men who did work on their house—a plumber and an electrician— to rape Lisa as payment for their services. Lisa was thus a victim of child sex trafficking.

Shaughnessy and Kleiner divorced when Montgomery was 15. During those proceedings Shaughnessy told the court her husband raped Montgomery, saying once that she walked in on him while “he was in her. He was pumping her.” The court admonished her for not reporting the crime to authorities, but then itself failed to report the abuse. Kleiner was never charged. Lisa also told authorities of her abuse—she confided to a cousin who was a law enforcement officer—but the officer failed to report Lisa’s situation. At school, Lisa’s work was substandard, and she was placed with special needs students. She often came to class dirty and unkempt. School authorities suspected abuse, but they too failed to investigate or to report their suspicions to the police.

Like many victims of violent sexual assault, Montgomery blamed herself for her predicament. She also began to disassociate herself from what was happening to her. Her stepbrother told the court that “Lisa told me that when these men raped her, she would go away in her mind and try not to be present.” Clearly Lisa had only a fragile grip on reality because she needed to escape reality to survive. That break from lived reality would plague her later life.

As with many children who experience chaotic, unstable childhoods, her adult life mimicked those conditions. When she was 18, at her mother’s instigation, she married her stepbrother who then coerced her into sterilization. She drank heavily, could not hold a job, had multiple car accidents, and neglected her own children. She lived in extreme poverty and was constantly moving from home to home; by the time she was 34 she had moved sixty-one times. She was said to often space out, to be disconnected from reality. After she was sterilized, she repeatedly told people that she was pregnant.

If this young woman's circumstances shouldn't be taken into consideration then I don't know who we are. We certainly aren't a "Christian", forgiving, understanding nation, I'll tell you that. And this would no way be anything remotely close to anything called or considered justice.

Donald Trump is still, still, to this day, December 2, 2020, not recognizing our vote, our votes, our election or Democracy. He has still, still, to this minute, not conceded the election to Joe Biden.

He's actually discussed preemptively pardoning his 3 children as well as his son in law. And they haven't even been accused of any crimes yet, of course.

Check that out. Trump's own, our own Department of Justice is actually investigating Trump himself for a possibly bribery for pardon scheme. It doesn't get any crazier, wilder or more illegal than this man Trump or his administration.

This is just how desperate he's now gotten. He's now even calling his own, our own FBI and Attorney General of election fraud. Insane. More insanity. It's like his calling anyone else corrupt or "crooked." It's ironic, sure, but it's hypocrisy at its most outrageous and most wrong.

Dangerously, honestly, this is what Trump is possibly planning for inauguration day, instead of, oh, I don't know, being a mature, responsible, thinking adult for the first time in his life and actually attending that inauguration.

 Yes, the Washington Post today has a great, if hard-hitting, brutally honest article about our own, Missouri's own Senator Josh Hawley. I love it's honesty. The truth in it is unfortunate, very unfortunate.

This is the part that seems most true to me of it all.

Anti-elite resentment deployed in the service of the elite.

What does the GOP base want? That question is of paramount importance to the ambitious Republican who would become the party’s champion in 2024.

The emerging consensus is that the way to win that base’s affections is by channeling and encouraging their resentments, much in the way President Trump did.

Pulling this off won’t be easy for more conventional politicians. Many will try; the slate of potential candidates is long and growing. But if you want to understand how Republicans see their own voters, you can’t do much better than to watch Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and his performative populism.

It’s performative because while it’s vivid and dramatic, it has almost no policy content. Hawley doesn’t actually want to do much of anything that might hurt the interests of the wealthy and boost the fortunes of ordinary people; what he wants instead is to encourage seething resentment of the “elite” that he can ride to greater political fortune, a new culture war for the post-Trump era.

What isn't insulting about Senator Hawley's approach---and divisive, polarizing us all--is frightening. It'sn no way to lead, it's no way to pull and keep us all together, as one, as Americans. 

I can't recommend the article enough.
