Entertainment overnight

"Star Wars", redone, in 3-D. Oh, yeah. That's the good news. The bad news, if there is any? It's "The Phantom Menace." Yeah, Jar Jar Binks will still be in it.

Insipid Summer movies
First, that there is a movie called--and about--a hangover.
Second, insanely enough, it's sucessful. Wildly successful.
Then, third, that there is a follow-up movie: "Hangover II".
Right. Because we can't figure out how the first one went.
The crazy thing is--sad, too--the 2nd will be wildly successful, also.
I have to remember.
It's Hollywood.
And it's America.
It's quantity, not quality.
It's also Summer.

Most anticipated movies of 2011?
I saw this link a few days ago and just hadn't gotten to it yet: "The Most Anticipated Movies of 2011".
And holy cow, how pathetic. Look at some of these on this list:
First up, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (May 20) You gotta' be kidding me. How many films in this series is there? Is there ever any doubt how these--each and every one of them--will turn out? Is there any doubt at all that Jonny Depp--I mean Jack Sparrow--will win? How many of these are we going to belly up for? Give it up, already.
Nest up, sadly, is The Hangover, Part II (May 26). Okay, it's only the 2nd in the series but was the first one that important, that good? I don't think so.
Third in this group is Transformers: Dark of the Moon (July 1). Holy cow. This is getting painful. This is the 3rd of this series and these, once again, have NO DOUBT whatsoever as to how they're going to end and that--Surprise!--the "good guys" sre gonna' win. Do we really need to see this?
Next, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (July 15) and okay, sure, first, we knew this had to happen, Second, it's the final one of the group (thankfully) and third, we also knew this had to happen because they're just milking the last movie and book by making the last installment go out over 2 films instead of just one. With this one, we're sure this is done and we won't see this resurrected any further. We think. Really. We're pretty darn sure. We think.
On to The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1 (November 18). Okay, this is starting to get embarrassing. The "Twilight Saga"? The only thing "saga" about this is that they've made so many of them already and THEY'RE STILL MILKING IT. This needs to be taken out and shot.
Then there's The Muppets (November 23). This is given a total pass and is okay because a) they haven't done one of these in years and b) because they're so darn funny--and original--unlike all the rest of these movies.
But then there's Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol (December 16) And this is just sad because first, it's a sequel, like the rest of these--read: no imagination--and second, it's going to have Tom Cruise in it to save both the film and his horribly sagging career. Good luck, y'all, on both counts here. You can almost see the anvil tied to this thing.
Finally, their recommendation for the new year is Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (December 21). I can see it now--people going, slow motion, through martial arts fights, through trees and treetops, right? ala' "Crouching tiger, Hidden Dragonr" and everything that came after it? At least let's hope it's not going to be one more made just like that, as too many have been.
My point?
Is there an original thought in Hollywood or anywhere close out there?
It surely doesn't look like it from here.
