This Very Wasteful Republican Congress

Check this out.

According to PBS NewsHour this evening, there have been 22 individual hearings on Benghazi.

For a sharp comparison, there were 21 hearings on the 9/11 tragedy.

They also held more than 50 attempts to overturn Obamacare.

I'm glad this Republican Congress has its priorities straight and that they're not wasting time and tax money.

How long are we going to put up with this hugely wasteful, very political nonsense, America?

Why America's Middle Class needs help

"Last year, a typical American household had an income of $51,017. The last year it was at that level was 1989 - meaning that America's middle class is making the same amount today as they did 25 years ago."   --Bill Moyers, American journalist and political commentator.

From BillMoyers.com

Here are some of the most poignant statistics from the site:
  • Percentage drop in average real income per family since 2007: 8.3
  • The median net worth of a family in 2010: $77,300  and in 2007: $126,400
  • Percentage of Americans that are unemployed/underemployed rate: 14
  • Number of states in which poverty rates rose between 2007 and 2010: 46
  • Approximate poverty rate from 2009 to 2012: 15
  • The last time it remained at or above 15 percent for three years running: 1965

So do you think our Congress would be working on these issues?

Oh, heck no.

Jobs bill?  Infrastructure bill?  Either one?

Heck no.

Instead they vote 42 times to overturn legislation aimed at helping the nation afford health care and push for regulating women's reproductive rights, among other things.

All this from the political party that says they're for the country, for the nation.

Clearly not.

Why pay attention?

"The worst illiterate is the political illiterate, he doesn’t hear, doesn’t speak, nor participates in the political events. He doesn’t know the cost of life, the price of the beans, the fish, the flour, the rent, the shoes and the medicine, all depend on political decisions. The political illiterate is so stupid that he is proud and swells his chest saying that he hates politics. The imbecile doesn’t know that, from his political ignorance is born the prostitute, the abandoned child, and the worst of all thieves, the bad and corrupted politician, lackey of the national and multinational companies." --Bertolt Brecht

Where Facebook is headed

"Initially, Facebook was just a place to post photographs and see which of your high-school classmates had gone to pot. Then it became a place for organizing political protests, and wasting time playing games. It’s grown and grown in all these ways. It gets credit from many for helping facilitate the Arab Spring, and it now hosts four per cent of all the photographs ever taken. Now, if Facebook gets its way, it’ll be where you read your news, find new songs, and watch video. It will have eaten a big chunk of the rest of the Internet." --Nicholas Thompson, "What Facebook Really Wants", The New Yorker Link to original story; http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/newsdesk/2011/09/what-facebook-really-wants.html

intention

It was never--and stil isn't--my intention to make this a daily round up of what this current administration out of Washington has done and is doing to us and the country. And yet, here it is, day 3 of the blog and we have yet another example. I swear I'll quit this. Who knew it would be this easy--and relentless? (And why isn't there a long list of searching investigations into all of what seems to be massive corruption and/or incompetence? That's fodder for another day).

The current story? Another federal agency horribly mismanaged. If we can count on this administration for anything, it's ineptitude (yeah, and the corruption and graft, sure). Besides the billions we've given away, literally, in Iraq, it seems "FEMA misspent millions of dollars it received from selling used travel trailers--as allowed under the law." "FEMA used more than $13 million dollars toward fully-loaded sport utility vehicles, travel expenses and credit card accounts, according to a draft report to be released Friday.

Holy cow.

For people who hate government (and profess to dislike big government spending) these people sure like having a good time on taxpayer's money, don't they?

Can you imagine what the right-wingers and Republicans would do if this were a leftist, Democratic administration?

And why doesn't our own Congress do anything about all these abuses? Those very Democrats, anyway?

I have a friend who seems to say it best: "Democrats are stupid. Republicans are evil." (Thanks, Bryce).
