Quote of the Day -- On Trumpism

It is revealing how a political movement that claims to be dedicated to the recovery of national greatness has so readily and completely abandoned many defining national ideals. Donald Trump’s promise of American strength has involved the betrayal of American identity.

One of the most important strands of our founding ideology is civic republicanism. In this tradition, the common good is not automatically produced by a clash of competing interests. A just society must be consciously constructed by citizens possessing certain virtues. A democracy in particular depends on people who take responsibility for their communities, show an active concern for the welfare of their neighbors, demand integrity from public officials, defend the rule of law, and respect the rights and dignity of others. Without these moral commitments, a majority is merely a mob.

What type of citizen has Trump — and his supportive partisan media — produced? Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) still holds her job in Congress because she is representative of ascendant MAGA radicalism. Those who reflect her overt racism, her unhinged conspiracy thinking and her endorsement of violence against public figures are now treated as a serious political constituency within the Republican Party. Trump has come down firmly on Greene’s side. One participant in the Jan. 6 attack sent a video to her children saying: “We broke into the Capitol. . . . We got inside, we did our part. We were looking for Nancy [Pelosi] to shoot her in the friggin’ brain, but we didn’t find her.” The detail that gets to me? She sent this to her children. She was living in a mental world where vile, shameful things are a parent’s boast. And she saw her actions as the expression of a public duty — an example of doing her part.

To Anyone Who Doesn't Think We Should Impeach

Let's' do this, America.  We need accountability. We also, God knows, need to make sure nothing, nothing even remotely close to President Donald J Trump ever, ever takes place again in our nation.

The Movie I Need to Make

The movie, this time science fiction, that I want to make and that needs to be made--

MICHAEL RENNIE, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, 1951 Stock Photo

About this planet, ours, Earth, that these these aliens that come at us, finally, at long last. We immediately think they've come to attack, kill and destroy us so naturally, that is for what we all, the world over, prepare for.

But these are advanced beings. These are truly advanced beings. They're peace-loving. And peace-living.  And they have the technology to take and keep it.

After this big, suspenseful build-up, in the movie, of us getting ready, the world over, for interstellar war, they come. They do come here. But instead of attacking us, their weapons shut us down. All of us. The world over.

And then they force us into peace. Peace. Across the planet. And then across the solar system and universe.

And we stop our wars. We stop fighting one another. We stop killing one another.

It becomes all the more relevant to us all, the world over, what with global warming and climate change now. We finally, finally start all working together to end and even reverse climate change and global warming and war and all the rest.

And we all start cooperating. And collaborating. And helping and nurturing one another.

The world over.

The end.

This Heartless, Unscrupulous, Low, Reckless, Mean and Just Dangerous President

This is what he did Monday morning.

Post image

The story:

President Trump on Monday referred to the accidental death of an intern in former Rep. Joe Scarborough’s office to take a shot at the MSNBC “Morning Joe” host, who the president has frequently feuded with during his time in office.

“‘Concast’ should open up a long overdue Florida Cold Case against Psycho Joe Scarborough,” Trump wrote on Twitter, using a derogatory nickname for the Comcast company, which owns MSNBC.

“I know him and Crazy Mika well, used them beautifully in the last Election, dumped them nicely, and will state on the record that he is ‘nuts’. Besides, bad ratings! #OPENJOECOLDCASE,” he added.

This is just the latest example of Trump attacking Scarborough over the death of Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old intern for the commentator when he was a GOP congressman representing a district in Florida.

Klausutis died in 2001 in Scarborough’s district office. A local medical examiner ruled the death an accident, saying Klausutis had collapsed and hit her head on the side of a desk. She had an undiagnosed heart condition, according to the medical examiner, and the head trauma caused a fatal blood clot.

Scarborough responded to the president's tweet on the air Monday morning, ripping him for dragging Klausutis’s family through the mud.

“You, once again, drag a family through this and make them relive it again, just like Seth Rich’s parents,” Scarborough said in reference to a former Democratic National Committee staffer killed in Washington, D.C., in July 2016.

Police determined that Rich was shot and killed as part of a robbery, but conspiracy theories suggesting ulterior motives have circulated among the far-right.

“As if losing a loved one the first time isn’t enough,” Scarborough added. “But this weekend, my God. You were supposed to have a working weekend. You got it wrong again....”

This President makes it clear again and again, there is no "too low" to which he won't stoop.

And it's a long, long way to November 3.

Thanks, Republicans.

If This President Never Concerned You...

If this President and Presidency hasn't, to date, concerned you, he and it should now.

US president briefed not to mention the topic at dinner with leaders from four Latin American allies – but he did so anyway

Why on Earth would we, the United States, invade and attack Venezuela?

Because they're Socialists?

And then, when you get there, what do you do? Whom do you attack? What, precisely, would you be trying to do and/or undo?

What the heck?
