Donald Trump: Truth Bender

Articles from across media in the last 24 hours.

I saw this one yesterday, with video, showing as much.

Tim Tebow Reveals Trump LIED About

Him Speaking At GOP Convention

Then there's this one from the head of the IRS. I only saw it today but it's from last March.

IRS Chief: “Trump Is A Liar,

We Audited Him

Finally, this one from today's New York Times

Anyone see a pattern here, folks?

And people think Hillary's a liar?

These Are the People Who Want to Run Our Government

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Ky., House Majority Leader-elect Eric Cantor of Va., and House Speaker-designate John Boehner of Ohio, leave a news conference, on Capitol Hill in Washington Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, where they talked about their meeting at the White House with President Obama. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon)

This is rich. I got an email from Prince Reibus--I mean Reince Preibus--Chair of the Republican Party, saying we should abolish the IRS.

Right.

This is the head of one of two of our political parties and naturally they want to run our entire government, but this is one of the "solutions" they have our nation.

Right. Abolish the IRS.

How, exactly are we raise the money required to run this nation without the IRS? How does that work?

Fact is, it doesn't. It doesn't work, it can't work. fun as that sounds, doing away with the IRS--it's like thinking we could all just not go to our jobs one day--it's not a solution. It's not realistic. It can't work.

We have a nation of over 315 million people. How do you run such an organization with no money brought in? How does that work? In what alternate universe is that possible? All nations have infrastructure that must be built and maintained in order to function. It's with taxes we do that.

These people want to run our government but first, they seem to hate that government and second, they want to dismantle it. Well, they want to dismantle it when they don't want to, as President George W Bush and Ronald Reagan, both, did, grow it incredibly.

They've been quoted as saying they still want to do away with Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. One, Mitch McConnell, was recently quoted saying that very thing to a crowd he though he was speaking to privately.

That's not to say our tax system doesn't need fixing, not at all, far from it. But to fix it, we need to end the ability of corporations and the wealthy to purchase whatever laws and tax laws they wish, to the nation's peril, by ending campaign contributions. Until we do that, nothing will change.

They don't deserve another chance with our government. They don't deserve another chance with our nation. They don't deserve another chance with us.

After Hobby Lobby, let's boycott Walgreens while we're at it

Yes sir, if this corporate tax plan goes through, boycott Walgreens:

Renouncing Corporate Citizenship

A little less than two years ago, Gregory D. Wasson, the chief executive of Walgreen, sought a series of tax breaks from Illinois, where his company is based.

“We are proud of our Illinois heritage,” he said at the time. “Just as our stores and pharmacies are health and daily living anchors for the communities we serve, we as a company are now recommitted to serving as an economic anchor for northeastern Illinois.”

The state gave Walgreen $46 million in corporate income tax credits over 10 years in exchange for a pledge to create 500 jobs and invest in upgrading its offices. The state also provided $625,000 in training money and $875,000 in other tax incentives.

Mr. Wasson’s actions, however, could soon run counter to his words. The same chief executive who said he was so “proud of our Illinois heritage” is now considering moving the company’s headquarters to Switzerland as part of a merger with Alliance Boots, a European drugstore chain.
Why? To lower Walgreen’s tax bill even further.
Alarmingly, dozens of large United States companies are contemplating the increasingly popular tax-skirting tactic known as an inversion. Under the strategy, companies merge with foreign rivals in countries with lower tax rates and then reincorporate there while still enjoying the benefits of doing a large part of their business in the United States.

And besides being deeply unpatriotic and just blatantly wrong, here's what else Walgreens gets from America:

In Walgreen’s case, an inversion would be an affront to United States taxpayers. The company, which also owns the Duane Reade chain in New York, reaps almost a quarter of its $72 billion in revenue directly from the government; it received $16.7 billion from Medicare and Medicaid last year.
This is obscene.  We need to stop this nonsense.

The NFL: The Perfect, Selfish, Heartless, Capitalist Business?

I pointed out here before how the National Football League, the NFL, amazingly doesn't pay any tazes.

None, whatever.

They're a "non-profit", according to the Internal Revenue Service:

How the NFL Fleeces Taxpayers

Now, it turns out the NFL doesn't want to even pay a true, minimum wage, either:

Isn't that beautiful?

And if you're an NFL team owner, like Clark Huntand the Hunt family, and you want to have your stadium renovated, what do you do? Why, you do what the Kansas City Chiefs (KCChiefs)  and even the Kansas City Royals do and go with your hat in your hand, out to the city and county you're in and ask--or blackmail--the people there to take the expense on themselves, even if they are middle- or lower-class schlubs.  You know, people who are trying to make a living and who are trying to keep their heads above water, financially, and who, by the way, DO pay tazes.

Oops.

This has got to make the people over at Walmart green with envy. Up to now, with this information, they likely thought they had the perfect profit-making, people-abusing business model and profit center.

And the question is, America:  why do we tolerate this nonsense, this abuse?

Something legal -- that shouldn't be

A study was just released proving still more that letting the wealthy and corporations offshore profits, first, shouldn't even ever been made legal and that it should, now, be reversed and made against our tax laws:

Exhaustive Study Finds Global Elite Hiding Up to $32 Trillion

A new report reveals how wealthy individuals and their families have between $21 and $32 trillion of hidden financial assets around the world in what are known as offshore accounts or tax havens. The actual sums could be higher because the study only deals with financial wealth deposited in bank and investment accounts, and not other assets such as property and yachts. The inquiry was commissioned by the Tax Justice Network and is being touted as the most comprehensive report ever on the "offshore economy." It also finds that private banks are deeply involved in running offshore havens, with UBS, Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs handling the most assets.

And the crazy thing is, of course, that it is legal, and that we allow this, but to go back to the beginning of it all, what's really insane is that, because of "campaign contributions" to their--our--legislators, the laws were written for the wealthy in the first place, so they could get away with this kind of rather treasonous obscenity in the first place.

And sure, the wealthy will always have the laws written for themselves first but let's not let it be THIS easy for them. Let's at least see to it this is rescinded and made illegal.  Let's at least do that. Then, after that, let's take away tax cuts for offshoring jobs in America.

It's difficult to believe we even have to say this.

3 Examples of what corporations and the rich are doing to us--and getting away with

Coincidentally, purely, these two articles came up online to me this afternoon:

Google pays just $10 million Irish tax bill by routing 9 billion euros profits abroad

And this one:

Fugitive Irish Lawyer Michael Lynns' $103 million is out of reach of the law in Brazil

You see what both this corporation and this lawyer did, don't you?

Each used current, existing laws to get and keep money away from the government in their operating country.

Pretty nice, eh?

Don't want to pay taxes in the country you live in, as in the case of the uber-rich attorney in Ireland?

You're a corporation somewhere--anywhere in the world, really--and, again, don't want to pay what would otherwise be a legitimate tax bill that would help keep that country you're operating in, running?

Offshore the profits, silly!

Before, the working person's problem was having his or her work devalued and so, paid less, because the company they worked for took the work overseas to be done by impoverished workers in foreign countries who would be desperate for the work.

Now, worse yet, we have individuals and these same corporations legally but immorally and unethically "offshoring profits" so they can escape tax bills.

Sounds like a certain Republican presidential candidate we know, too, doesn't it?

Disgusting.

Nations the world over need to outlaw these possibilities. If they don't, it will not only continue to happen but spiral upwards in use by these selfish, greedy pigs.

Missourians brow-beaten by Texas attorneys

A Texas law firm has been sending letters to churches, trying to say that "..."criminal penalties apply to the collection of signatures for an initiative petition. It also warned that religious organizations trying to influence legislation 'may lose their tax-exempt status.'" Why would this law firm do this? Why, because churches, statewide, have been organizing and collecting signatures to propose a vote on the regulation of payday loans in Missouri. You know, the people who charge upwards of 400% in interest rates for their loans? A little data: "A Missouri Division of Finance study conducted in 2007 found the average age of consumers taking out payday loans was 43 with an income of a little more than $24,000. The average interest rate for a payday loan in Missouri is 445 percent annually. The national average is 391 percent." As Rev. Richard Creason, pastor of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in St. Louis said, "It's an effort to intimidate and pretend that we have no First Amendment rights as citizens of this country." Personally, I'm all about churches staying out of elections of individuals but this is utterly different. This is about helping people on an issue about the poor. They shouldn't tell anyone for whom to vote in an election but this is about organizing for an issue. From the article (link at bottom: The IRS prohibits political campaign activity on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for public office by houses of worship that are tax-exempt through their status as a 501(c)(3) organization. But the IRS defines political activities and legislative activities — or lobbying — as different things. Religious organizations can engage in "a limited amount" of lobbying, including ballot measures, and can advocate for (or against) political issues. Hopefully this will blow up in the faces of the attorneys in Texas. Regardless, this initiative should go forward. Republican leaders fighting to keep tax cuts for keeping manufacturing offshore

One of the things the Republican leaders are fighting for right now in Washington for their corporate overlords, in the budget negotiations, is for corporations to keep tax incentives to take and keep manufacturing offshore. Yeah. Seriously. If President Obama and the Democrats take this away they call it "increasing taxes." It's crazy. Truly insane. If you totally ignored that we need the revenue, how about the fact that we need and want the jobs back here in the States, back here at home? Shouldn't that resonate with them? To go along with this (I've written on this before), there is a story out today on The Daily Ticker blog, reinforcing this: "America needs to get back to the basics of creating things of value and there is no better time than now, says Bob Lutz, former vice chairman of General Motors. 'There is a dawning awakening on the part of most Americans that we cannot maintain the wealth of the nation by being bond traders [and] lawyers,' he tells Aaron in the accompanying interview. 'At some point the country has to get back to work and create wealth through mining, agriculture or manufacturing.'" We need to ramp up and keep up pressure on Congress--and right now--to take away tax credits that take and keep manufacturing offshore. Nothing else makes sense. New way to get rich: snitch

To wit:

APNewsBreak: IRS awards $4.5M to whistleblower

PHILADELPHIA – An accountant who tipped off the IRS that his employer was skimping on taxes has received $4.5 million in the first IRS whistleblower award.
The accountant's tip netted the IRS $20 million in taxes and interest from the errant financial-services firm.
The bad news?
You lost your job.
The good news?
You don't need it any longer.

Have a great weekend, y'all.

Another psycho lashes out: do you suppose our representatives are paying attention?

This time, once more--though not always, of course--with guns.

The last time, you'll remember, was with an airplane.

Yesterday:

"A California man killed in a shootout with Pentagon police drove cross-country and arrived at the military headquarters' subway entrance armed with two semiautomatic weapons, authorities said Friday. The shooter apparently left behind Internet postings resentful of the government and airing suspicions about the 9/11 attacks."

One more person angry about our government.

Another gun-nut, conspiracy theorist, it seems, if the guy who did it is the guy with the same name who posted a bunch of rants on the 'net. We'll see. Stay tuned.

Doesn't it seem like there's been a lot of these lately?

For a brief update on recent attacks:

"The assault at the very threshold of the Pentagon — the U.S. capital's ground zero on Sept. 11, 2001 — came four months after a deadly attack on the Army's Fort Hood, Texas, post allegedly by a U.S. Army psychiatrist with radical Islamic leanings."

"Hatred of the government motivated a man in Texas last month to fly a small plane into a building housing Internal Revenue Service offices, killing an IRS employee and himself."

"The shooting resembled one in January in which a gunman walked up to the security entrance of a Las Vegas courthouse and opened fire with a shotgun, killing one officer and wounding another before being gunned down in a barrage of return fire."

It would be nice if this, then, would end this stuff but I wouldn't count on it.

What would also be nice, though, is if we knew all our representatives--especially the ones in Washington--were paying attention to this palpable anger and frustration on the part of the citizens of the country, regardless of the source of the anger.

What any and all representatives in Washington ought to take from this is that we have problems, we want and need them fixed and they need to stop the bickering and the partisan nonsense and the log-jamming legislation they've been doing and get to work, compromise, come up with good solutions and pass that legislation.

And quickly.

That's what should happen.

It won't, of course, but that's what should happen.

Have a great, sunny, warm weekend, folks.
