The "National Standards" debate in our schools

With the KCMO School District getting on a "national standards" program, thanks to our new Superintendent, it's worth pointing out that, right now, there is an excellent evaluation of this idea and program at The New York Times, "pro" and "con". You can find it here: http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2010/07/21/who-will-benefit-from-national-education-standards?hp

National standards will accomplish nothing but further see that students will be better drones for corporate America and even less critical about politicians and their corporate owners. They will be created and adopted by those chosen by Wall Street and their political allies and, like most of what's going on now in our corporate-controlled Congress and administration, it will look as if something is done while the CEOs will thrive. Ask most teachers who really work with kids. They know what we need, and this isn't it -- smaller classes and how about more money spent on education than war as the countries with better educational systems do. Obama's education secretary is no better than Bush's. My Sep 1 Minor Details is on this topic.
