As soon as I saw "Summertime" on Tony's right hand margin, I thought of that great tune from Porgy & Bess I think, to describe what a sleepy, hot, bluesy day it is. Yes I love Ella and have a greatest hits boxed set of her work. I like the 30s-50s genres and collected a great deal of it to play for my dad and the Geritol for Lunch bunch at his nursing home when he was still around. That's when I got the Ella collection. It can also be found at the library under various titles... Best of Gershwin and others, tho Ella doesn't sing it. I think Billie made it a hit.
As a means of purely keeping people from saying mean, ugly, vile or profane or slanderous things, I moderate comments. I'll get your comment up soon as possible (as long as it's not any of the above).
Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou bet. You're welcome, of course. A friend on Facebook reminded me of Ella. I saw this and knew I had to put it up.
ReplyDeletePeople can still do great stuff, sure, but you can't get better than Ella.
ReplyDeleteI do feel sympathy for any younger people who grow up and maybe aren't aware of her, now or in the next century. Seriously.
This one seemed so appropriate today, too.
